LucasArts teases Wii, DS-exclusive Star Wars games
Remember the God of War III tease on the back of the Chains of Olympus manual? Well, IGN reports that LucasArts has gotten in on the back-of-booklet-surprise trend by slapping an ad for a new Wii and DS Star Wars game on the flip-side of the LEGO Indiana Jones manual. The promo is for a game (or games) based on the upcoming Star Wars: The Clone Wars CGI movie and TV series, and only icons representing Nintendo's console and handheld platforms are present. If the games stick solely to the Big N's machines, they'll be the first Nintendo-only Star Wars titles that we've seen since long ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Cool I guess, Could be good if they do it right
samfish @ May 30th 2008 9:51AM
They won't.
JohnnyW @ May 30th 2008 6:49AM
Last Nintendo only Star Wars games... since Rouge Squadron? Which weren't that long ago.
Massmass @ May 30th 2008 7:58AM
Actually, Rogue Squadron was also released onto PC.
JohnnyW @ May 30th 2008 8:13AM
II & III were both Nintendo Exclusive at any rate
Massmass @ May 30th 2008 8:32AM
lol oh that's right. I forgot about those. =P
Geoffrey Sperl @ May 30th 2008 11:32AM
It would be II and III. RS II was released in 2001 as a GCN launch title. I think RS III was released in 2003, so it's been five years or so? Not that RS III was that good.
Hashbrown Hunter @ May 30th 2008 7:06AM
I see what you did there at the end Randy...
Clever, clever!

Clone wars sim, rouge squadron style, please. Thank you.
fred @ May 30th 2008 7:42AM
Hopefully they'll turn out halfway decent since they're focusing on one console (and handheld) instead of porting.

I like the idea of rewarding your customers with the news first (revealing a new title on the back of a booklet).
baby sea tuna @ May 30th 2008 8:17AM
I like the idea of having that surprise spoiled on the Internet, a week or so before said game booklet even hits retail.
McWeen @ May 30th 2008 8:46AM
Touché sir.
Ihavepants @ May 30th 2008 8:06AM
Lucas Arts realllly needs to stop shitting out Star Wars... seriously.
Massmass @ May 30th 2008 8:14AM
I agree. This "generation" attempts too many sequels, spin-off, tandems, etc. that pay little homage to the originals and are rarely AS enjoyable. It's definitely time for every developer to move on for a while.
Superstar90 @ May 30th 2008 8:44AM
I hope it's like Star Wars Episode 3 for DS/GBA. That was an awesome 2D hack and slash, that was pretty deep in the combat.
t_m @ May 30th 2008 11:21AM
really, I got it free with my DS, got bored after 2-3 levels and i've never gone back to it. Seemed very poor to me...
SoulAssassin808 @ May 30th 2008 9:17AM
lol
NATO_Duke @ May 30th 2008 9:53AM
Could be a great coup for Nintendo. I hope for their sake that they get the titles and that they are something that drive gamers to take the console more seriously. (Including me on the day to day.)
deslock @ May 30th 2008 11:29AM
Hmmm, lets see. The movie comes out in Aug. This is a game on a movie license and will ride off the movie popularity.
And the game hasn't been announced or nary seen a single screen or mention of it? If this is a coup they are the worst marketing people ever.
But I'll put my money on this being a sad, sad chance to cash in on the movie. I've seen that happen in the gaming world once or twice before ;P
NATO_Duke @ May 30th 2008 11:40AM
Well, let see, its a TV show and a movie and its also Star Wars, which means that people will buy it up either way, and a lot of Wii owners will want something SW as a change from the normal games they have now. Money is money. Run-on sentence FTW!
t_m @ May 30th 2008 11:25AM
Yay! Nooo!
On the one hand I've been saying they should make a OTT clone wars style beat-em-up for years. After all, clone wars was the ONLY good thing about the prequels. Though I must say I imagined more of a 2.5d beat em up with hundreds of enemys to slice though at a time. I'd imagine on Wii they'll try to include wiimote lightsaber controls, which would work well with other star wars games...
On the other hand, the NEW clone wars trailer looked beyond awful, and seemed to have lost all the character, style and fun that existed in the cartoon. Zzzzz.
StarFoxA @ May 30th 2008 11:32AM
Super Star Wars series FTW.
ComradeTrotskii @ May 30th 2008 12:32PM
I don't want to break from game discussion but what in the shit is that poster that I'm looking at?
That is without a doubt the most hideous interpretation of Yoda I could ever conceive. Is Lucas not content with already having pretty much destroyed the franchise that he must continue to shit all over what (amazingly) still remains my favourite Sci Fi franchise ever?
Maybe I should withhold judgement until I've seen it as the previous Clone Wars cartoons were the best part of the new Star Wars stuff. But they were directed by Genndy Tartovsky and didn't feature horrible looking CGI.
343 Guilty Fart @ May 30th 2008 1:22PM
Thank you for mentioning this. The look of these new CGI characters looks awful. Atrocious even. Fugly beyond belief.
Mr Khan @ May 31st 2008 12:40PM
Exactly. If they didn't try to get Tartakovsky to do this, they need to be shot. And if Tartakovsky refused (because of the rumored Samurai Jack movie that he might be working on), he needed to be chained into a chair and forced to
Feature-length Clone Wars movie? Yes please.
alu @ May 30th 2008 2:51PM
trailer for the movie looks really good..
Anthony @ Jun 4th 2008 10:40AM
Hopefully this won't just be Nintendo Exclusive. I'm planning on buying a Sony PSP and I'd like to be able to play the Clone Wars on the PSP.
I also hope that it'll be a 3D game and not a sidescroller like the GBA and Nintendo DS Revenge of the Sith games were.
