Rock Band Weekly: Jimmy Buffet and Disturbed

This, this may actually be the weirdest Rock Band Weekly ever. This week we get a combo platter of Jimmy Buffet and Disturbed. Our brain actually gave up for the rest of the week on this news, so we've really got nothing else left to add. But, we have pulled out the crushed ice and lime juice and are ready to waste away the weekend. This gives us hope that one day we'll get Abba Gold as a DLC album. Harmonix, make it so!

Buffet is a great example of content that would have no business being on disc, but is perfect for DLC. There are a lot of people who would enjoy playing him at parties, and now they have the option to do that.
Farseer (GDI) @ May 30th 2008 3:18PM
Bingo!
God I love the variety in RB DLC...
John Z @ May 30th 2008 3:07PM
Spend too long in Margaritaville and you'll come down with The Sickness? ....yeah, I got nothin'. Thinking I might pick up the Disturbed.
Also: you really couldn't find any other video but some crappy DBZ AMV?
Brian Fantana @ May 30th 2008 6:47PM
That was actually pretty good. Better than any of Joystiqs latest captions.
And what a good idea to add Jimmy Buffet. That should get a ton of downloads from the midwestern RB owners.
samfish @ May 30th 2008 3:09PM
Woo hoo! Weekly music thread! Time to whine! I'll start!
No comment on Jimmy Buffet, but Disturbed...
...ugh. I remember I was working at a radio station when they first hit it big and we got their sampler disc in. We popped it in to listen to it and were all like, "What the fuck is is crap?!"
They still are quite awful. I suspect the lower price for their songs is because no one would ever actually drop two bucks on a Disturbed song!
tmacairjordan87 @ May 30th 2008 3:11PM
I agree with you. Just about everyone in the metal community thinks Disturbed is a complete joke of a metal band..if you can even call them that.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 30th 2008 3:17PM
Not to mention that every song I've heard from them on the radio (which is quite a lot, they're popular in the tampa bay area) ALL sound almost exactly the same.
fyreblazer @ May 30th 2008 3:29PM
Really tmac? I just got up on Disturbed and thought they sounded alright. Being a hip hop head mainly, I enjoy my fair share of metal & death metal (from Black Sabbath to The Sword. I even enjoy the fictional Dethklok) but I didn't know these guys were clowns. What can you recommend for the metal music lover in me?
tmacairjordan87 @ May 30th 2008 3:32PM
I would have to find some bands for you from my friend, cause he's more of the new age metal guy. I'm the 80s-early 90s metal guy so I'm not really up to snuff on the modern metal. He's the one who told me they're a joke in the community.
ChooChooCharlie (MK 0430-8740-2222) @ May 30th 2008 3:33PM
Well, I happen to like Disturbed. I wasn't a big fan of The Sickness (their debut album), but Believe and IV were much better - they had less stereotypical metal growling and much more actual singing.
BTW I'm guessing the tracks are only $1 each because they are off of their new album, not because they couldn't sell for the full price.
How can you say that ALL of their stuff sucks anyway? In my opinion their cover of Land of Confusion beat the pants off of lame ass Phil Collins.
FOXHOUND @ May 30th 2008 3:39PM
Tmac ---
T'Bay area? LoL, I'm roughly 85-90 miles east of you in Orlando! XD Anyway, it appears misery likes company because both of the rock stations here seem to throw in their songs on the hour at times, especially during the summer.
However, I will admit that their rendition of the Stone Cold Steve Austin theme was good; which is about as nice as I'll be toward anything Nu-Metal(or whatever they call "that"). Also the lounge, jazz-like version of "DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS" by Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine was hi-larious. I wouldn't mind them on ROCKBAND. ;D
Joseph @ May 30th 2008 4:01PM
I personally like Disturbed, but would have rather had some better songs than these. Pretty much anything off Ten Thousand Fists would have been awesome.
Jason @ May 30th 2008 4:06PM
@ fyreblazer, if you don't mind I'd like to recommend Strapping Young Lad, Mastodon, and My Dying Bride.
Brutal!
ChooChooCharlie (MK 0430-8740-2222) @ May 30th 2008 4:05PM
Hahaha. Whoops. I just noticed I said IV instead of 10,000 Fists. (IV is Godsmack) Anyway, that's what I meant.
samfish @ May 30th 2008 4:07PM
Richard Cheese is awesome. My personal favorite is probably his version of Ice Ice Baby.
Baby Got Back and Creep are both awesome, too.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 30th 2008 4:14PM
I liked Disturbed when they were all about the synths weaved in with the metal. I enjoy them immensely. As for the discount, it's because they are straight off the new album. Great way to promote the album directly to some of your fanbase and possibly introduce some people to your music.
playwhutyalike @ May 30th 2008 5:38PM
Like em' or hate em' they were able to ride that first CD for a long ass time. I had it, didn't think it was terrible at all. Made the mistake of borrowing it to someone, never saw it again.
fyreblazer @ May 30th 2008 6:51PM
@Tmac, 80's, 90's, 00's...it doesn't matter, I wanna hear it all. I'm just a heavy guitar riff fiend.
@Jason, I actually have Mastadon - Blood Mountain and love it. Great riding around & running music for confusing people when they see this young Black man with a penchant for hip hop banging that crazy shit. I'm going to check out those other two bands you recommened as well. Thanks for the tip.
ApolloIV @ May 30th 2008 8:30PM
@ Fyreblazer
Some other good bands you should probably take a listen to are,
Necrophagist(amazing playing if you enjoy the art and playing part of Metal) All that Remains, Children of Bodom(I don't particularly care for them but they are good) Dream Theater, The Fall of Troy(not really metal but AMAZING player), Iced Earth, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Megadeath, Metallica. There are probably plenty more but this is all I can think of off the top of my head.
Gavin @ May 30th 2008 3:09PM
I really don't want to download those Buffet tunes, but I'm from Biloxi so I know I'll get drunk one night and they'll end up getting bought.
playwhutyalike @ May 30th 2008 5:40PM
MADD.
Mothers Against Drunk Downloading.
Brian @ May 30th 2008 3:10PM
Wow. I'll get all six. Buffett is great for parties. That's not something I'll play alone like I do with the metal songs. I've never heard the Disturbed songs before today and I admit, they sound good and will be very fun to play.
baby sea tuna @ May 30th 2008 3:10PM
PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS A JOKE!
NATO_Duke @ May 30th 2008 3:21PM
Oh man do I hate Jimmy Buffett.
Farseer (GDI) @ May 30th 2008 3:23PM
Stop it... no one can hate Jimmy Buffett. :P
NATO_Duke @ May 30th 2008 3:43PM
Sorry, I find his music repulsive.
FOXHOUND @ May 30th 2008 3:47PM
If "Margaritaville" made this weekly update, then "Pina Coladaburg" by Bill Paxton(from the movie, CLUB DREAD) needs to be in next week's update. ;D
baby sea tuna @ May 30th 2008 4:07PM
Buffet is the worst. My dad makes me buy him every single album for every single holiday...since he records like 3 albums a year and each one basically has the same goddamn songs on it! I feel like I'm going to start going into seziures whenever I hear his music, which is FAR too often. I give him 2 fins DOWN!
Gewurztraminer says: R.O.B. is the last Cylon! @ May 30th 2008 6:48PM
May I suggest you never visit Key West then.
brad77 @ May 31st 2008 1:31PM
Me too @NATO, me too. My distaste for Buffet was ingrained in me at an early age. His songs conjure up images of retirees in Hawaiian shirts with umbrella drinks in hand dancing on the deck of a cruiseliner for some reason.
That's why this is great for DLC. I would be pretty bummed (read: driven to punch babies) if this came up in every other set in tour mode, but Buffet fans can have it their way too.
Iceman346 @ May 30th 2008 3:11PM
Yay for europe getting the shaft again. No Disturbed in sight here unfortunately :/
Quite strange situation really. The new Disturbed album is released here (in germany) while you US guys have to wait till the 3rd of june and with the Rock Band DLC the situation is kinda reversed.
Bruno @ May 30th 2008 3:58PM
Where did you hear that Disturbed won't be available in Europe? The official announcement states that the songs "will be available to all Rock Band owners on 360 and PS3".
Charron @ May 30th 2008 5:49PM
Yea, all Rock Band DLC releases are synchronized across countries. The difference in dates between platforms is a platform issue, outside of that things are as synchronized as possible.
RobLink (Return of the McElroy Defence Force) @ May 31st 2008 5:51AM
Iceman, it's next week's DLC. This week's was The Cars.
Mind you, I wouldn't be surprised if we got shafted after the debacle of the Euro Rock Band release. £180 my fat arse. Still feel like a sucker for buying it. Why am I so weak?!?!
jsn @ May 30th 2008 3:13PM
great variety. Something for the "new music" crowd and something for the people who just want to have some fun with a crowd. Choices like this are why RB will always do better than the new Guitar Hero World Tour game.

Love the Buffett, I would have liked to have seen a buffett six pack with some more obscure tunes.
Will be picking up buffett but not disturbd
Farseer (GDI) @ May 30th 2008 3:25PM
Seriously... maybe if enough of us buy this Buffett pack, they will give us some more down the road.
Monthenor @ May 30th 2008 3:18PM
Aw dammit. I was doing so well on not buying RB tracks and now there's Cheeseburger in Paradise.
Bonerama @ May 30th 2008 3:24PM
From the Rock Band site:
"Jimmy Buffett rerecorded the three songs for exclusive use in Rock Band, turns out he really digs the game."
That's pretty cool.
Bagel @ May 30th 2008 3:24PM
The only people that like Jimmy Buffett are frat boys and alcoholic chicks from the south.

Ironhammer @ May 30th 2008 3:32PM
Disturbed is one of the few hard rock bands that always puts out consistently solid albums. Definitely looking forward to this pack. I'd like to see some of their older stuff become available too.
Kizzle @ May 30th 2008 3:35PM
"Disturbed is one of the few hard rock bands that always puts out consistently solid albums."
LOL
One of the "few?" I could count the fingers and toes of every commenter so far and still be naming bands that put out more "consistently solid" albums than fucking DISTURBED.
Joseph @ May 30th 2008 4:10PM
Ok Kizzle, go ahead. Start naming them. If Metallica or In Flames in on your list, just go ahead and shoot yourself in the head now, because you're wasting the good oxygen for the rest of us.
ApolloIV @ May 30th 2008 8:35PM
Metallica stopped putting out solid albums in the 90s...and In Flames is a reasonably okay band I guess. Disturbed never appealed to me but they are extremely nice guys in person. So I don't really care for the music too much but it could be worse. They could be releasing much much worse like Limp Bizkit
Nick the Hero of Canton @ May 30th 2008 3:35PM
Thank God...now South Park jokes!
