Rumor: In-game XMB and BioShock trophies caught on video
114
More rumors regarding the long-awaiting, promised in-game XMB for the PlayStation 3. A member of the Max Console forums has posted a handful of images and videos what is reportedly the XMB working during BioShock, as well as trophies for the game. We've embedded one of the videos after the break. While certainly more convincing than some of the mockups we've seen (think: MS paint), we still remain skeptical.

It's just games. Nobody needs anything.
Will people enjoy them is a better question.

People have been asking for this for ages. It's a lose-lose for Sony:
1. Give them trophies. Get accused of copying from your competitors, when you're really just listening to customer feedback. After all, why copy your competitors if the customers don't want you to?
2. Don't give them trophies. People complain that you don't listen to your customers, when you're just trying to differentiate your offering to the market. After all, who wants all machines to be the same?
The only really good option is to expand on your competitors offering. But that doesn't really apply to trophies - there's very little room for innovation there. But when your customers ask for a better community experience, Sony has shown that they can innovate (Home), although they've also shown that they're not that good with deadlines.

If trophies are a copy of achievements, then achievements are a copy of skill points, invented by Insomniac back on the PS1.
Everyone copies everyone.

Does anyone REALLY need the worthless "Gamer Points"??? Can you get ANYTHING for those worthless points? Redeem for even more worthless "Microsoft Points"??? Achievements are nice, but get rid of the stupid point system, it MEANS NOTHING! Kudos to Sony for that.

Finally some functionality comparable to the 360. Hopefully it'll recognize saved data to get trophies for old games.

so heres the deal with achieves they give you something more to do in the game besides just beat it!!! It provides and aditional challenge/scinario to any game... before achieves i would just try to see how fast i could beat a game but now you can try to beat it in other ways... think of the gnome achieve in half life 2 or the target marks in lost planet... and yes I did get those!!!

The things in Resistance are Skill Points. Every Insomniac game has had them for the last 10 years. They are generally all question marks before you get them, but since at least Ratchet & Clank 1, the names of the skill points are visible in a list and the names are often strong hints as to what you have to do.

I thought trophies were to be displayed in a room in Home? Hope they arent taking that away from the service and giving us it in the xmb that doesnt give us bragging rights.
