StillAliveDS: 2D Portal brewed for DS
Inspired by the Flash game inspired by Portal, StillAliveDS packs all the joy of in hole / out hole, squashes it into 2D, and serves it onto your DS (with supported hardware). So clear out those pirated Pokemons and make room! This is the sort of delicious, home-baked, icing covered code that inspired you to cop a flash cart all the way from China in the first place ... right? (If you're asking, "What's a flash cart?" then you best start here.) Otherwise, get downloading -- it's free!

That doesn't look too bad. Wonder how the portal selection works though?
Chase @ May 31st 2008 3:33AM
This is a triumph. I'm making a note here: Huge success. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.

Aperature science. We do what we must because we can. For the good for all of us except the ones who are dead.
Nushio (NDF - Blue) @ May 31st 2008 1:31PM
But there's no point crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
DVersion @ May 31st 2008 1:48PM
Guys just no... no more quoting the song. It's over. It's done. Come up with your own wit.
Maxwell Ash @ May 31st 2008 3:32PM
But the science gets done and you make a neat gun, for the people who are still alive...
Owyn @ May 31st 2008 3:37AM
Beastly.
gamerprophet @ May 31st 2008 5:04AM
Where can I get this?
Brian @ May 31st 2008 7:18AM
Click the "get downloading" link.
gamerprophet @ May 31st 2008 2:58PM
I did now all I'm wondering is where and how to get a cartridge to load it on.
iofthestorm @ May 31st 2008 3:01PM
How about you click the "get started" link? Reading the post helps sometimes ;)

By the way, some homebrew works well in DS emulators such as iDeaS or DualiS and no$gba and others I can't remember right now. So if you just want to try it out right now, you can do that.
Ray @ May 31st 2008 5:05AM
pretty good menu could use some work though
michael @ May 31st 2008 7:15AM
the delicious, home-baked, icing covered code is a lie
Kree @ May 31st 2008 7:47AM
Urk, it looks okay until you try to use the clunky controls. The portal selection is irritating at best and the object pickup with the touchscreen misses half the time. Not to mention some of the level designs are just obnoxious.
wootman @ May 31st 2008 12:28PM
welcome to DS homebrew.
honestly, except for a few (and i mean VERY FEW) really polished games, most feel...
outdated.
homebrew seems to excel in apps (paint, win2ds, dsorganise)
and emulators (nesDS)
uranutan3 @ May 31st 2008 12:49PM
@wootman
What homebrew games do you recommend? And how the hell do I use win2ds? The site on it is useless.
iofthestorm @ May 31st 2008 3:05PM
@uranutan3: Pocket Physics is awesome, so is warcraft tower defense. Those are just the few that come to mind right now. Right now the DS scene is a bit sleepy though...
wootman @ May 31st 2008 4:07PM
*turns on ds*
amplituds is so far my favorite.
wardrive is a interesting proof of concept.
flight from darkness is a hardcore rpg.
every extend is fun
megaETK is decent
and NESds is almost perfect.
but honestly, i enjoyed WEWY more than all of them combined. D:

It's crap.
Chris @ May 31st 2008 9:21AM
I've been playing this for a couple of hours now, and it's really fun. Plus, it has DLC. One of the better, more polished games to come out of the DS homebrew scene.
Gilbert @ May 31st 2008 10:01AM
What song is this and where can i get a copy?
jake18oly @ May 31st 2008 10:41AM
The song is the last song on the game Portal. Buy a copy of Rock Band if you want the song. It's a free downloadable song on the game.
Dante @ May 31st 2008 12:16PM
..or you can just go to itunes. It's written by Jonathan Coulton for the game.
wootman @ May 31st 2008 12:25PM
find it on youtube and use vixy.net
i also recommend the remix "the device has been modified"
SuperGayParade @ May 31st 2008 10:47AM
dang I was looking forward to only killing black people! ugh I hate developers caving in to bogus complaints.
finnith @ May 31st 2008 11:31AM
Seriously man, you could at least post in the correct post.
FrankTheCrank @ May 31st 2008 1:01PM
You f*cking hackers are killing the videogame industry.
Seriously, with sales in the gazillions of dollars last year and this year is set to break more records, you haxorz with your homebrew cartridges are causing videogame companies and producers of games to starve every night.
Just to think, game companies might not be able to fly some game reviewers up to some swanky location feed and shelter them for a weekend drinking, and playing games.
Oh yeah, don't forget the free schwag and hot hookers.
Nushio (NDF - Blue) @ May 31st 2008 1:33PM
"Hot Hookers"
These hookers are on fire!
Vaitork @ May 31st 2008 1:44PM
You need to get used to the controls but still, it's as nice as Portal: The Flash Version. I've yet to reach zones with more danger than just falling off screen, but so far it's pretty fun.
Anyone knows of other homebrew games worth checking out?
BigD145 @ May 31st 2008 2:46PM
Ew. Sexist version.
Conor @ May 31st 2008 6:03PM
damn I was having so much fun with legally backed up version of the world ends with you, now I have this to play.
Brian Fantana @ May 31st 2008 6:25PM
Portal was a pretty good game. Nothing great. That song is pretty good. And again, nothing great. Portal was too short and too easy. If you have half a brain, you can beat the main puzzles in 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. The advanced puzzles are tough, but they are still the same as the originals with a few things taken out.
