'Break'-ing news: New Fracture trailer explores plot
43
We've been intrigued by the terraforming gameplay we've seen from past previews of Fracture, spurring our curiosity about what little details we knew about the plot of the game. The developers at LucasArts, much like the man from which their name was derived, usually imbue their games with fantastic storytelling -- particularly in those rare releases that don't involve lightsabers and Bothans. The above trailer's themes of civil war and environmentalist undertones definitely provide the base for an interesting plotline; we just hope the game's writers can keep up, providing us with an unorthodox FPS protagonist -- one who is capable capable of weaving polysyllabic words into complete sentences.

I dunno, fernando, this looks like it has a lot of potential. imagine multiplayer with these weapons. I'll give you an example. you're enemy is trying to run you over in some warthog-like vehicle, and you make a pillar of dirt shoot up from the ground tossing the enemies into the sky. Or use the pillar for yourself to get to safety. Imagine everyone trying to shoot gigantic boulders at each other! FUN !!
The graphics look pretty, especially when the ground deforms. Yeah, if everyone will only shoot at each other, then that'll be boring.

If didn't mention a PS3 game it would have been fine ... Its the little pot shots that invalidate everything you say on here ...
Fracture looks generic but not as bad as Ninja Gaiden II ... It looks more like Ninja Gaiden version 1.5
With that said Ninja Gaiden has incredible game play to make up for it

Visually, the game looks impressive, with an interesting setting, but that voice acting is terrible. That ruined it for me. It's almost Resident Evil 1 bad, but not so bad it's good, but so bad it's awful.

You know the game Heavenly Sword had some of the best voice acting/lip syncing and facial animations I have ever seen ... Damn shame it was so short but I think that game more so than any other game I have played this generation had fantastic voice acting ...
Star Fox also has some great voice acting ... They actually sound like the characters they are representing ... Maybe Nintendo will release a new Starfox for the Wii soon ... That would be pretty neat

I really hope they do... with Factor 5 as the developers.
Factor 5 said that they are more interested in the IR Pointer than in motion, and that's better in my opinion.
Analog stick to control the Arwing, Z button to do barrel roll, IR Pointer to aim and move the camera, with a small bounding box, like Metroid Prime 3, A button to shot, B to bombs.
And a quick motion to do a somersault.

Agreed voice acting sucks almost worse then any $5 JRPG import I've ever heard.

indeed, voice acting did suck...reminded me of mechassault. This game looks pretty shitty... and whats up with the west being the bad guys? haha, watch this game ends up selling more in the east than it does in the west, would be funny.

I'm a little overloaded on all these generic shooters. Wake me up when gears 2 and resistance 2 comes out cause they're about all I have patience for when it comes to more freakin shooters.

look, i want to try these terraforming weapons out. It may not work out, but I think we should give it a chance. Yeah, the story sounds awful... who am i kidding? It IS awful - Pacificans? but it's just an excuse to use these new weapons.
Here's another cool way we can use this weapon, you're enemy is shooting rockets at you, and you create walls of dirt to protect you! OR OR OR... you are sieging the enemies location, and they have snipers, so you use the dirt walls for cover! Okay, i'm not very creative, but I'm sure if you guys put some thought into it, you can come up with many useful and fun ways to use these weapons defensively or offensively.
No? well, i tried.

I only play multiplayer in rare great shooters like COD 4, little bit of gears, and even PDZ. It takes a lot more than being able to raise a hill to convince me to hop onto multiplayer in a shooter. I'll consider a brief gamefly rental if it has interesting achievements.

Shooters are the most popular genre going right now
Especially FPS ... That being said I have enjoyed the majority of shooters 1st and 3rd person alike in the last few years more so than other types of genres and titles

This idea behind this game always seemed questionable to me ... Terrain deformation as the main focus of the combat seems like a neat idea for a tech demo but not for a full game ... The storyline is extremely laughable and pathetic ... Good thing The Force Unleashed will be coming out because this looks like ass ...
If it were a game that was crazy and unique like Armed and Dangerous was in 2003 it would be acceptable ... However, Fracture seems to take its self way to seriously for my taste ...

Dudes/Dudettes!
I thought it was interesting! At least a rental or bargain buy!
If devs/publishers don't try different things for better or worse, we would never have anything 'new' to play. I thought it was different and interesting.
If everything was made to be just like other games, there would be no need for innovation/creativity. I applaud their efforts to do something new/different.
Just my 2 copper pieces...

The whole time the narrator was talking, I was expecting him to go:
"And that's when things went wild, brah."

I'm intrigued. I am surprised to find the side utilizing cybernetics is the "good" side and the side using genetic manipulation is the "bad" side. It's usually the other way around, though I guess the religious moral twist in gaming is interesting. Here's hoping for some moral ambiguity, not a clearly black/white storyline.

Lets be honest... they made the tech for this game and tried to find a way to make a game out of the idea...
They were probably like "hmmm... what is the trendy thing going right now??? Hay Global Warming is really popular right now...!!! OHHH YEAH!!! Lets us that for a story!"... Please... This looks like the dumbest thing EVER!!! Haze looked stupid from the previews but this makes Haze look like it deserves a Emy!

What about international sales? Good luck selling such a typically self-centered American game in Europe, buddy.

I think the plot is more like "No matter what side you choose U.S soldiers and Citizens will die".
I see this game being popular everywhere in the world except in the U.S.

In direct response to the news post, it should surely be clear by now that the Lucasarts which "imbues their games with fantastic storytelling" well and truly died by the turn of the century. The few Lucasarts games since then to have great storytelling (such as Knights of the Old Republic) have been developed by other companies, and merely published by Lucasarts. Lucasarts haven't developed a unique or captivating game in around a decade.
My first impressions of fracture were the same as my impressions of this trailer: Generic. There is not a smidgen of unique character here, and it's unique character more than anything that once made Lucasarts great developers. Sure, people like blowing stuff up, and a terrain deformation gimmick is always going to be entertaining for a little while, but a bit of tech doesn't have the power to rescue a game from the bland vision of unoriginal writers and designers.
I'm really tired of generic future sci-fi universes and the action gameplay that takes place in them. I've been avoiding games like this for years, and there's little to no chance I'll end up playing this one.

So, on closer inspection, it turns out that despite this being 'original IP' for Lucasarts, it's not even developed by them. Is Lucasarts turning solely into a publisher? A samey one at that? There used to be something special about every LEC licence. Alas, there is now nothing special about any of them.
