I think its true, but when we get the firmware update is anyones guess. Im not going to buy into rumours about it being out for MGS4, thats a bit to beyond my gullability. Hopefully it drops this year, but again... who knows.

2.40 was confirmed to be the in-game xmb update by that spokeperson guy way back when. Assuming we get 2.40 and not 2.36 or something, we get ig-xmb.

No it wasn't. Go back and read it again. It's ambiguous. Though, I believe he meant to say it, he didn't exactly.

This is the first "rumor" that has had support come out from individuals that are considered credible and would actually know. J Stevenson pretty much gave it away with that smile

Sony didn't say it... Hence it's status as "rumor" currently. It was "confirmed" only by a guy from EA and a :D from an Insomniac developer. So I believe it, but Sony hasn't said anything about it yet.

I'm curious of what we will get in the firmware update that they won't tell us about. I enjoy hunting through my ps3 to find the updates that they do not list.

After seeing the leaked video of Bioshock trophies and new 2.40 features like in game XMB and clock (which was requested heavily on the PS3 official Blog) I think the rumors can be taken seriously this time.

Don't really know when it might come out, although a pre MGS4 release makes sense.

I can't wait!

Didn't bookmark the link or anything, but if you google 'bioshock in game xmb' you'll see all sites that posted the video and screenshots.

Some had the video taken down but it's still out there somewhere... thanks RazLeboL!

This would be awesome. Though, in the video that Razlebol linked, the Trophies seem to be appearing loosely in the "Game" section of the XMB. The video looks pretty believable, but wouldn't that implementation be stupidly cluttered?

It probably would, but I wouldn't really want millions of trophies per game to be honest, the XMB can't handle many files easily, unless ofcourse they folder them.

Also the guy who posted it had the devkit with 2.4 and it seems like he's part of the team that is working on Bioshock PS3... only thing that troubles me is why haven't we heard about him losing his job, cuz that would make the video 100% real!

Found some new news from psextreme

"We have more evidence that the long-awaited in-game XMB will arrive with firmware update 2.40 for the PlayStation 3.

Dutch gaming website PlayStation Only cites their own Sony source that claims update 2.40 will be available on June 18. Multiple sources have listed a June 10 release, but PS Only says that's incorrect. Furthermore, and more importantly, they do say that the in-game XMB is "confirmed" for this firmware update, and while it isn't official, they also say that Trophies are "likely." This may be the update many PS3 owners have been waiting for ever since the system's launch. Several details concerning the XMB have been crisscrossing the Internet, and the idea of implementing soundtracks directly into our games is very cool. Of course, Sony hasn't issued any press releases or announcements about update 2.40, but if it's going to release on June 18, we expect to see something shortly.

Actually, a good place to check on this stuff is the official PlayStation blog, where we've seen some of the earliest info for past firmware updates. In the meantime, we're anxiously anticipating that XMB and the Trophies...who isn't?"

It looks pretty hopeful but lets not hold our breath, iv also heard not all features will be available on xmb. That it will be built upon in the next coming firmwares. Wonder what else will be in next firmware.

This seems to be a more credible rumour than the whole 2.0 that was a wishlist.

Diehard PS3 fans have been waiting for in game XMB longer than Hollywood has been waiting for Lindsay Lohan to make a good movie. Well, don’t hold your breath on the movie bit but a number of sites are reporting that In Game XMB may be coming June 10 as part of Firmware Upgrade 2.4.

As has been widely reported, Firmware 2.4 will include a trophy system. And Sony already has a game, PixelJunk Eden on the way which will utilize this system. As part of In Game XMB, PS3 users will have a universal friends list, personal soundtracks and possibly better audio and video communication.

According to insiders, Sony is currently running through the entire PS3 library to determine compatibility with all existing titles. Those who should know don’t think there will be a problem but Sony wants to make sure. Also, as exciting as custom user music (imagine playing Linkin Park while fragging some idiot in COD4) is, it won’t automatically be available. It will be part of the software kit available to developers going forward so, unless games are patched, it won’t be available for a while yet. The same applies to the new trophy system.

Finally, it appears that the latest firmware update will be released June 10th, two days prior to the release of a little known game, Metal Gear Solid 4. Hopefully the update won’t get lost in the ensuing excitement.

When you turn on your PS3, you're presented with the console's main menu, the "Cross Media Bar", "XMB". This new update purportedly will enable its use during gameplay by pressing the PlayStation button, which up until now has resulted in a fade to black, two stripes, and a query on whether you want to quit the game, change controller settings, disconnect the controller, or shut down the PS3 completely.

@gordon strange - my apologies if you were not refering to me as you have replied to someone else.

Just got the impression you were since mine is copied and pasted.

For the record, if you read carefully I did quote where the source, though I did not specify the link, I gave you the website to search. For arguments sake here is the link if it bothers you that much

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/3167.html

It isnt plagarism if you quote the source ie where you got it from. Those that write essays know, you dont have to have permission from every single source to put it in an essay.

So as long as you state where it comes from.

Alot of these websites information comes from other websites.

Not being funny but why has it got your back up?

Ah sorry mate, many apologies. Your post appeared after mine and was wondering if it was directed at me but mistakenly replied under someone else. i v seen it happen before and misunderstood.

My bad.

Just finished a history degree and was always under threat about plagiarism lol it used to bug me when someone questioned my comments. I should learn to leave my work at the door in the future and not drag it into a ps3 forum.

Yes indeed your quite right, people need to quote where they get a long sources of information from, it doesn't help to make a rumor true. Just adds to the confusion of a feature we have waited for.

For the future can you embed the poll in the PS3fanboy site Nick. I hate those evil pop ups and those weird sites.

Now as for if 2.4 will be great I do know it is real and is going to be great. Dumb NDAs so I can't say what I have been told but lots of people will enjoy this up date. So PS3 Fans will be really happy with this at least for some time before they want some thing else added to the PS3.

Every time I upgrade the firmware, my PS3 croaks after about 30 minutes of play, where I have to call Sony and they walk me through restoring default settings, all the while making me scared I'm going to have to send it in, but they've fixed it three times...Any word on a fix on that?
