We've got Faith No More in the new Street Fighter IV trailer
The font of incredible trailers continues to pour from the bounteous spigot of CAPtivate '08 -- the above trailer for Street Fighter IV went live rather subtly last night, only to deliver a patented E. Honda "thousand hand bitch slap" to our unprepared senses this Sunday morning. It even includes one of our favorite songs to sing from Rock Band: Faith No More's "Epic". We don't know why seeing Blanka go all sparky to the disjointed vocals of Mike Patton gets us so hyped, but our excitement for the revivification of what many would argue is the greatest arcade fighting series ever has just increased tenfold.
However, it should be noted that depending on your feelings towards Gamestop and their pre-order policies, you may view the last seven seconds of this righteous trailer as being decidedly un-epic.

nice pastiche.

HEY CAPCOM!
According to the Joystiq readers peplying to this video, you should not release this game in America, Leave it in Japan... I will import my copy but don't bother, these guys hate the game...
Lord Bowser @ Jun 1st 2008 12:13PM
Crappy music for a crappy looking game. They deserve each other.
Someone Sneaky @ Jun 2nd 2008 7:30PM
Judging by your name your just jealous it's not on Wii.
sicsided @ Jun 1st 2008 12:30PM
so, do you have any game you are creating that we can blatantly abuse for the comfort of knowing others will read our comment(s)?
Hoshin @ Jun 1st 2008 12:40PM
You're fat, and I only wish I had the time you do to post stupid shit on the internet.

If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all.
Benny @ Jun 1st 2008 1:17PM
I'm starting to wonder whether you actually like games at all, or just like bitching about them.

Ridgecity @ Jun 1st 2008 12:17PM
I still can't believe I'm seeing SF4... fuckin rules!!
Shimrra @ Jun 1st 2008 12:22PM
Game just doesnt appeal to me like say Guilty Gear did when I first saw that game. I personally think the series itself hit its peak with Street Figther 3rd Strike. This game shouldnt even be called SF4 since it just looks like a rehash of the Alpha series. Maybe Capcom would have been better calling it SF Alpha 4 instead.
Zsavior @ Jun 1st 2008 12:39PM
Yup I totally agree. Why are they calling it SF4 it is the same SF they have done a million times before. I will probably still give it a try cause I don't want to crap on it this early but, from here, it doesn't look that great.
Noshino @ Jun 1st 2008 5:22PM
because it isn't the same?
First of all, the way the game looks is unique, and goddamn it looks awesome. I wanted Capcom to up the graphics, but I also didn't want them to become another SC or Tekken, so I was thinking that they could have done the same as DBZ: Burst Limit, but no, what they have done completely blew me out.
Second, the fighting engine has been heavily redesigned, the main change, no more Parry...that COMPLETELY changes the way many play, now the game is more offense oriented, most players will have to rethink their strategies as Parry is out.
So in summary, no, it is FAR from a rehash...
zero2dash @ Jun 2nd 2008 1:54AM
Uh, no? It's not 2d hand drawn art therefore it's not anything like the Zero (Alpha) series, period.
If anything it's more like a bastard child of SF2 + the horrendous EX series.
Count Noobula @ Jun 1st 2008 12:24PM
I wonder if this will require an install on the PS3 version.
el serpiente @ Jun 1st 2008 5:12PM
Isn't it a download? In which case there will be a full install on every platform.
Autopsy15 @ Jun 1st 2008 7:10PM
Why the hell would Street Fighter 4 be a download? Shut up stupid.
Mimi @ Jun 1st 2008 12:28PM
Faith No More can't even save this game from it's ugliness. Sorry Capcom, but this game looks like SHIT!
And it moves like SHIT! (I hate the animations) I just hate everything about it.
Ugh. I'm done.
smells @ Jun 1st 2008 12:34PM
wow, I really belive some people just HAVE to complain about SOMETHING, ANYTHING, to make them feel better about themselves. This game looks fucking incredible, im sorry you think it looks like shit. Now go play ET on your atari and leave us alone to enjoy the awesomeness that is SF4!
Tiptup300 @ Jun 1st 2008 12:58PM
I have to agree, this game looks pretty bad. They use neat effects here and there, but everything just looks just not that good.
riggs @ Jun 1st 2008 1:05PM
im with him, this game looks bad, if they wouldve went with the style in the trailers (which misled many of us tbh) i would have been really happy with the turnout, from their faces to how overly huge and slow it moves, im rather disappointed.
Anticrawl @ Jun 1st 2008 1:19PM
@smells
I agree with Mimi as well, you're just a Street Fighter fanboy. I'm not sure why they went with the ugly mutated steriod freak-baby look in the character design but it's doing nothing for me. Just like people play games because of how pretty they are I can't touch this one because it's to damn ugly. There is no paper bag big enough to allow me to get a quickie out of this game.
Mr Khan @ Jun 1st 2008 1:34PM
I would agree also. Though the beloved SFII style of gameplay seems to have been restored almost intact, Street Fighter 4 is proof of the importance of artistic style to make a game appealing
Bad Normal maps, characters that look like the Gears crew on even more roids, and just low polygon counts and a poor effort altogether
They need to scrap the art style almost entirely, and send it all back to the drawing board. Especially distressing after the artistic beauty they achieved in the recent HD Remix.
DangerMouse @ Jun 1st 2008 2:26PM
With regards to graphics, they're not doing anything special that gives it the Street Fighter feel. The art style, while different from most fighting games, is just way too awkward even for street fighter. I imagine it's hard to replicate the fluidity of 2D sprites in a 3D world, but the animations are still too slow and too stiff. I love the way it first look in the intro, or the first teaser trailer. It looked extremely unique, but too bad the game isn't like that.
And yes, i feel much better now.
gore on the floor @ Jun 1st 2008 6:57PM
@ smells
I'm sorry you think it looks fucking incredible.
I guess some people have to complain about people complaining to feel better about themselves.
Kyattsuai @ Jun 1st 2008 12:35PM
I saw that commercial last night, they "premiered" it during the Elite XC event on CBS. It was pretty much the highlight of the night until Kimbo punched that guy's ear.
rainking187 @ Jun 1st 2008 4:24PM
Yeah, I don't understand how the hell it managed to run almost an hour long when I don't think one fight went the distance. The woman's fight was the best part of the whole thing and the only one where I agreed with the doctor's call.
DesertPyrate @ Jun 1st 2008 12:41PM
The game looks okay, its SF what did you expect? They keep on with the same game over and over, its a Japanese thing, they make the same game slightly modified. Even the much hyped and acclaimed MGS4 is gonna be the same old shit with a new twist of lemon.
WRE (PSN: WorstReviewEver; Gamertag: HaloKissesBoys; Wii Friend Code: 4204-4590-6106-3583) @ Jun 1st 2008 12:52PM
mmmmmm...lemon.
DangerMouse @ Jun 1st 2008 1:04PM
I've always felt the same way, especially with regards to the RE series as well. It's like a "if it's not broke, don't fix it" kind of thought process. I don't necessarily agree with MGS series as a whole, though.
My only complaint so far is the introduction of the characters to each round. Why do they pan around each character just like every 3D fighter out there? It's a petty complaint, but it makes it look like just another average 3D fighter. They could at least come up with something new.
Mr Khan @ Jun 1st 2008 1:11PM
The fighting genre is traditionally a very stagnant genre altogether
Noshino @ Jun 1st 2008 5:33PM
woah woah, it has nothing to do with the game being Japanese...its because it is a fighting game!
Look, unlike other genres, there is not much that can be changed on a fighting game, not only that, but a minor change on the mechanics could cause many changes in battle...
Why do you think that all of the fighting games don't improve that much between installments? and if they do, they have taken their sweet time to think about the pros and cons and see that everything works as they intended it to, and most of all, that it stays balanced.
Anni @ Jun 1st 2008 12:53PM
Funny story, I saw Mike Patton live once doing his Peeping Tom thing once.
I have.. honestly yet to understand his appeal.
As for Street Fighter, it's basically what I would expect from the series. Also Ryu's face when Ken punched him in the stomach was hilarious.
Jacksons @ Jun 1st 2008 12:58PM
I'll join the "Why is it called IV, again?" group, but I still want to play it.
Lydia @ Jun 1st 2008 1:02PM
A japanese thing? Ok, whatever. Like Western developers don't do the same exact thing over and over again.
GTA IV
Halo 3
Gears of War 2
God of War 2
FPS: WWII & Vietnam (FPS in general)
The list can go on and on.
Come on guy, let's be real here. Everyone does it.
WRE (PSN: WorstReviewEver; Gamertag: HaloKissesBoys; Wii Friend Code: 4204-4590-6106-3583) @ Jun 1st 2008 1:16PM
Sustained.
Jacksons @ Jun 1st 2008 1:25PM
I don't think a game with an upcoming sequel counts as the exact same thing over and over. I'm guessing they're more annoyed that SF4 is just a bit too familiar. But hey! At least they're adding some new characters.
Ridgecity @ Jun 1st 2008 3:59PM
Why don't you go play Mortal Kombat and pick Superman...?? lol
Slayer @ Jun 1st 2008 1:04PM
I really don't like what I see. I think I'm gonna pass on this one.
syrik zero @ Jun 1st 2008 1:07PM
The song says it all, "What is it? It's, it" (the same stuff it's always been, with nothing really changed)"
cheeky @ Jun 1st 2008 1:19PM
good god...can someone link me a joystiq story where the majority of comments were actually positive? Everything I read here is so negative about everything...
This game looks awesome in motion, the facial expressions I thought were great (like Ryu getting uppercut by Ken, and Zangief when he lands the piledriver on Blanka)...so what if its the same old shit, it's the same old shit that has made it one of Capcoms best selling series EVAR
Magetto @ Jun 1st 2008 1:28PM
What I love about this comments is if Capcom actually significantly changed anything about Street Fighter everyone would be complaining that it's not Street Fighter.
Mr Khan @ Jun 1st 2008 1:41PM
mostly positive comments
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/26/ign-first-web-gta-iv-review-another-perfect-10/
In this case Street Fighter IV has just found ways to offend or turn off the majority of commenters here with all the various flaws that everyone mentions (myself included) virtually every time it comes around
