Konami is afraid fans are gonna be mad because of how long the cut scenes are and how many there are and all i can really say to those people is "have you played an MGS game?" since the first they've been packed full of cut scenes, honestly why would this one be different?

I wonder if this is really Konami's doing, or if it is Sony putting on the pressure. Given the prior track record, my money is on Sony.

This would be like Rockstar asking people not to say the shadows clip like mad and he still walks funny for GTA4 reviews.

Lets cut out the crap here
"publishers asking reviewers not to share certain information with readers is against everything that a review should be"
Thing is are they trying to hide poor gameplay? No. Poor graphics, poor level design, faulty AI, etc etc? No

This concerns two things. One, loading onto hard disc, which is irrelevant (in fact a positive - none of the pop-ups and load times that you face with many 360 games)
Secondly the cutscenes. Are they trying to hide something we dont know? Does ANYBODY buying MGS not know about this?
What they are trying to do, is forcing reviewers to focus on the gameplay and the quality of the title. And there is a good reason - read the Eurogamer review and you wont find a SINGLE reason to give it an 8. What they did was to use the the story, which is such a great part of MGS and probably as big a reason for buying MGS, as an excuse for lowering the rating.

This is despite the fact that you can just skip the cutsecenes. Many of them have falshback sequences. The story, as per most previews, is kick-ass.

It is like saying that all JRPGs should have no turn-based combat, or that GTA has too much driving. I have a feeling Konami figured out that this was going to be used by a few sites to try and bring down the scores, because otherwise there is no way to reduce scores for what is looking like GOTY. And this is Konami's way of telling these reviewers to fuck off.

No popups is a good thing. No load times is a good thing.

But having to install is not a good thing.

I can play Uncharted and Burnout:Paradise with no pop-in, no load times and no installs. I can play Ratchet & Clank with no pop-in, no install and load times of under 5 seconds every 10 minutes.

Lazy ass developers need to get in gear.

The only review you can trust is one completely separated from the revenue stream of a game. Sorry, but that cuts out nearly all commercial reviews due to advertising. You're much better off on the system-specific internet blogs. A lot of their reviews don't even make it to gamerankings or metacritic, but you can at least count on them to give it to you straight...

The fact that these places even get pre-release copies for review is part of the problem. Talk about tit-for-tat...

Wow, do you guys all think its really about the cutscene length and install? Are you serious? It's about the spoilers. They are just using that as a cover and don't want any info being leaked.

It would be like them saying, "Hey you can review it, but just don't talk about the horrible voice acting and camera." Then its obvious that the acting is horrible and so is the camera, so why would they need to cover that?

All this is, is a fancy way of telling reviewers, "DON'T ruin the story for others!" Without directly exclaiming that, so people wouldn't get suspicious of the story.

And you guys keep exclaiming that in order for MGS4 to be a perfect 10 it should have a ton of added stuff. Well, ever hear of MGO?

I applaud EGM for standing up to this bullshit.

Yes, every game company does it to different degrees. No, it's not right. Hopefully by EGM standing up, companies will be a bit less aggressive with these stupid restrictions in the future.

i dont blame them....they said that they need to sell a record amount to even break even, so any slight negative press for a game that already doesn't appeal to the wider masses could make it a complete failure...as by going single platform on the weakest of all platforms in terms of market share, isn't exactly a wise business decision to start with. sony will have had a lot to say about it...cause if they don't break even with an acceptable profit margin, you can bet your ass you'll see it on the 360 somewhere down the line.

You all want to know the truth about this whole thing?

The truth is we'll never know the reasoning behind the hush-hushing. Konami has always kept a lid on the weirdest shit in regards to MGS, so thier reasoning behind this will probably never come to light.

At the end of the day, they aren't twisting arms for better scores, or bribing reviewers. They just want some things kept secret until the game hits. For whatever reason, it doesn't matter as its their right to ask this in exchange for early review copies.

Take your god damned conspiracy theroies and go back to your bomb shelters, plox.

Why would Konami not wanting them review the game early stop them from actually doing it? What in the hell could Konami do if EGM actually grew some balls and did what they wanted to do? Why are they letting Konami control the strings?

I found it odd that Euro Gamer gave it a 8/10 with giving any gameplay issues. Other than technical ones that did not seem to be the problem but rather the storyline.

So far I have not heard anything bad about this game that is a huge issue.

Pulling Shane is stupid.

He played it about two weeks before it was done. The game won't have have changed significantly after he played it. Additionally, he has played the entire game through. Why turn the review over to someone who will only had time to play a portion of it?

Shane was an idiot to advertise his review score ahead of time, that's true.
