After
last month's announcement of Interplay catalog titles coming to GameTap, we surely weren't alone in wondering where the Fallout games were. Sure,
MDK and
Earthworm Jim are great additions but, with
Fallout 3 coming out later this year, the absence was enough to make us reach for the bottle. Now, just a few weeks later, the 'Tap has announced that those previously announced Interplay titles – as well as the "widely successful
Fallout titles" – will be available not only through the subscription service but also for free play on the ad-supported website.
And just like that, put another check mark on Interplay's ongoing quest to monetize their stable of properties and turn all that red ink black. Next step:
sequels and that Fallout MMO they keep talking about.

The more people who play Fallout the better.

I just signed up for gametap yesterday, so I'm very happy for this addition.

Awesome! I missed playing Fallout 2 and have always wanted to go back and try it again.
Been playing Beyond Good and Evil on Gametap last night and today, have found it quite entertaining.

Aww man I was hoping FallOut would come to Steam
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Jun 2nd 2008 10:42PM
This game is a FUCKING CLASSIC!
Anni @ Jun 2nd 2008 10:48PM
Damn, I'll be tempted to give this yet another playthrough. I'm such a sucker for this game.
BigD145 @ Jun 2nd 2008 10:52PM
Here's a better idea: Release those classics for free (ad free) and hook some new blood before 3 comes out.
t_m @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:24AM
they just did release them for free. Sitting through a 10 second commercial before playing doesn't seem too much of a chore.

This is awesome. I've got Fallout but not Fallout 2.
This also rounds out Gametap's old school PC roleplaying games since they've already got the Baldur's Gates, Icewind Dales and Planescape Torment

I think I speak for many when I say, hell yes.

War.
War never changes.

I've beta tested for Gametap for a couple of years now. Can't wait to play these games!
t_m @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:25AM
Gah! I've had fallout 1&2 sitting in my pile of "Play these games later" cds for a couple of years now. I was just getting to them and now they're available for free. Sigh.
JeffyP00 @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:17AM
Fallout 2 is still buggy as hell without getting the fan patch that fixed most of issues that still remained after the demise of Interplay/Black Isle. I'd play it through, uh, *other* means if possible....
Dagon @ Jun 13th 2008 8:42PM
You hear that M$, people are giving away the games I wanted to pay you to let me play on XBLA.
FSK405K @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:31AM
I finally bought Fallout 1 and 2 a few months ago...really cheap and easy to find, thankfully. Installed both, played 2-3 hours into Fallout 1, and have no idea what to do next or how to progress. I could of course pullup gamefaqs, but prefer for such a loved game to not. Unfortunately, I'm really stuck. Because of this and because of the limited amount of dialogue/RPGness I've seen, the game doesn't really seem all that great. Am I missing out by not getting further, or have I seen most of what the game has to offer?

Explore the world map some more. Talking to some npc's will reveal certain locations on the overhead map, like the small towns on trading routes (talk to some traders at the hub, for example). However, you don't need these revealed to just go explore and discover new locations. Each location should have several side/mini quests to do. Basically, you want to explore, do quests, level up, get better eq. As you explore the map, you'll find more to do, and eventually you'll be led in the direction of the water chip, and more.. Stick with it. It's a great fucking set of games, if a little dated by now.

I was looking for this on Steam, GameTap and anywhere I could find it. Finally I just bought the whole collection on amazon.com. Now just ONE DAY after I got it in the mail they announce this! GREAT!
ChaoZ @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:54PM
I'm guessing Canada will be excluded again? We never got access to the other Interplay titles.
