Gears of War getting price drop, special edition emerges June 24
If you haven't jumped into the Gears of War emulsion pool yet, it might be worth waiting a couple more weeks until June 24, when the special two-disc version of Gears is released for $40. The special edition contains the multiplayer map packs, along with several other extras (listed after the break). This new Xbox 360 version will not have the PC-exclusive Brumak battle, but we can wait until this holiday for GoW2, when the longing for a Brumak showdown on our Xbox will become but a distant memory.

And I believe it sold like that for 2 reasons, new game = uncertainty and because of the 18+ tag, but then that didn't stop GTA selling like hot cakes, so I assume its mainly my first idea, new game.

Yeah, I know Fenix, I was just accumulating all the figures from the fact it was multiplat, but we already know on 360 alone it was a great success. Which is a great thing and I'm not to concerned about COD4, got loadsa mates that have and play that, and while I know Gears 2 will sell far better then the first, I just think selling Gears 1 as a promotional deal package could be a cool option. Its a good way to get the sales figures for original Gears further up as well :)

Gears is easily one of the greatest games I've played which is why back during its year of glory, I pondered its slow sales rate, I at least thought sales would speed up and hit some staggering 6mill + figures once people played the game, which is why Joystiq pointed it out back then.
Nevertheless, its still a work of art, no doubt Gears 2 will do superb, can't wait for that game :) Trailer alone is enough to knock someone over :P

I still find myself playing Gears co-op with my brother every now and then...it's too bad that game doesn't have any kind of random instance generator that could change up the paths/enemy placement in the game, but it's still hella fun.

40-50 bucks has always been the price range for PC games, for as long as i can remember. Also, the big 3 charge a licensing fee, usually 7-9 dollars on each game, so it evens out somewhat. Games used to be 50 last generation, so they probably figured consumers will spend another 10 anyway, especially if they're willing to drop 500-600 on a console in first place. I remember getting SFII on the SNES for 69.99, but cartridges cost more back then anyway.

You know, to a certain extent I like this idea because it gives people who might not have Xbox Live or what not a chance to get the more "complete version" of the game (i.e. the game Xbox Live users got with the DLC).
On the other hand, would those offline users really benefit from the multiplayer content that's included? Seems somewhat illogical.

I loved the Gears SP and coop, but I have to be honest here - I hated the MP community a lot. Every time I played it was like the Halo community, which is annoying as hell – but worse somehow. I'm sorry guys, but I can only listen to half-wit morons talking shit about each other with the same one liner slams for so long before it’s just not worth my time.
It’s just not my thing to spend my online time listening to what passes as clever for people who barely have a grasp on the language.

Gears online with 8 buddies is honestly the absolute most fun I've ever had playing videogames (which I guess is why I'm still up until 2am doing it every night even a year and a half after release).
It's such a socially inviting game if you're playing with good people, it's like being back in the college dorm room.

It's true Nato but Gears of war and Halo aren't the only games, try GTA IV is the same case.
In every popular Xbox title the f*gg*try will consume the game like wildfire, is inevitable. I had to block communications every time I played Halo, Gears of war and add GTA IV to the list. It used to bother me but after I blocked communications everything was fine but what really pissed me off was the lag.
For some reason in every popular game I have an immense amount of lag that I don’t get it least played titles.
First I thought I sucked at the game but I manage to play the game once without lag and I was winning then I played another match and there was a connection hiccup every 10 seconds and it happened more often when I was with more players.
One thing is the retarded xbox community with the “I wanna be cool” teenagers and pathetic men-children that won’t recognize team work even if it rapes them but the lag is killing me. I really can’t stand when everything moves like if it was a white stripes video.
Oh yeah and the multiplayer modes in each game kind of suck. If you ask Halo is like “Kidz: My first Quake” Gears of war online mode is lagtastic and is complemented with a side of bugs but the main course is the fact that every match is decided 70% of the time in shotgun duels. GTAIV needs to be fixed A.S.A.P the locations in Cops vs crooks couldn’t be more broken. As cops sometimes you start near the crooks but sometimes you respawn at the other side of the map and as the crooks sometimes you respawn in places where there isn’t a damn vehicle WTF?
