Wedbush Morgan analyst -- no, not that one -- Edward Woo uncovered some interesting news after sifting through an Activision SEC filing this week. According to the filing (via Gamespot), the company plans to launch Guitar Hero: Metallica in Fiscal 2009, which, for Activision, is anytime between now and March 31, 2009.
No other details are known about the game other than its existence. Will it be guitar-only or multi-instrumental a la the upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour? Regardless, we're guessing that long-awaited new single won't debut on Rock Band anymore.

I wonder if we're gonna get rendered models of the band members like in Aerosmith. Will the band have Cliff Burton, Jason Newsted, or... whoever the hell they got to replace Jason Newsted?

I like Metallica, but I'd rather just have a Metal Edition (or classic rock, punk, pop, etc.) instead of whoring out an individual band. I thought they said they were going to do this early on before the big split?

Yeah, well, Metallica's new album is due out later this year, which, if my knowledge of the business world is correct, is slightly before fiscal 2009.
They can still debut their first new single in Rock Band, and from what I have heard about from those who have heard their new single, its the fastest they have ever played, so, it will dominate Rock Band.

Now that I have Rock Band, I play the guitar and sing at the same time. Just playing the guitar bores me now. IF they release this game for their upcoming Guitar Hero Band and IF the future downloadable content is 1000 times better than it is now (see Rock Band), then I would get it. But the GH downloadable tracks will have to be excellent, I don't care anything about a new drum kit. All about guitar and vocals for me.

I see a trend here: Guitar Hero: Sellout Series!
1.Aerosmith.
2.Metallica.
3.KISS
4.Paul McCartney
5.Smashing Pumpkins
6.Weezer
7.The Who
8.Foo Fighters
9. Gwen Stefani
10. U2
And I bet Moby is trying to get a game for him but his songs don't use or even any kind of instruments.

If you buy 40 rock band songs, your guaranteed to enjoy those songs unless you buy songs you don't like. You buy this game, you might dislike half the setlist. Silly.

Finally some metal-esque love, and not some generic old ass classic rock. Color me excited. As long as the note charts are somewhat accurate, and not just a barf of notes like in GH3, I'm all for it.
G&R would be uber too.

Seems cool, but would be cooler as DLC for RB. I can't believe people are really gonna buy GH:aero. It is gonna blow.

This is the greatest news I've heard in a long time! Metallica is one of my favorite bands!!!!!! I don't care if I'm feeding the cash cow, because this cow is going to be giving some grade A+ milk in about year.

Man this is going to be a horrible game. Metallica uses the same damn guitar solo for every song. Just awful.
