I understand the places are huge and look great, but the load time is pretty long. I really don't see Home having any bearing on games. Its a nice looking Second Life that serves to (not very) subtly put ads all over the place. I'll stick with downloading trailers from the PSN rather than having an avatar stare at a screen.

Yea, let's just hope we won't have to pay for them (Qore).

I'm getting really pissed at Sony. Home looks rubbish and overhyped, and now they're making us pay for demos. We pay for games, not demos. Demos tell us if the game is worth actual money.

Those load times shown in this video are a 1 time installation of the new areas. Once they are saved to your HDD it only takes a couple of seconds.

I agree. I don't see the point. It's advertising being thrown in your face, and doesn't look interesting at all. Then again, I can't understand why the SIMS was popular either. Seems like it's for people with no life who want to life out an equally boring life virtually.

Here's how I think of it. In an MMO, you start looking for a group to go to some dungeon. Then when you are done that dungeon, you may go to another dungeon. Someone might leave so you pick up someone else and maybe head to another dungeon.

Home is basically the same thing. You log in, you ask around to see what everybody is doing. Maybe there are 8 people in some group and they are all going to play a Warhawk match. So you join them. If they are a good group, you really enjoy yourself. Then after the match, they may play another or decide to go for a race in GT5P. You tag along and have some fun racing them.

The group may dwindle down but you can keep adding more. At the end of the night, you might have met some really good people that you can add to your friends list.

I see your point in that sense Kodros, However I personally play almost all single player games and very rarely find a game that has multi-player game play that is appealing. Anyway putting it the way you do it almost makes some sense however, still a big LFG chat is kinda weird.

That was a very point Krados.

Also, another thing I want to mention is... lots of people have been labelling this as "Hyped" by EVERYONE. Just because I find this interesting & I would like to give it a shot, doesn't mean I'm hyped for it.

I'm already enjoying my Online experience, I don't need to hype this or urgently "wait" for something to come along... I'm fine. To me, this video didn't seem like it was showing the FUN of it. Because it was only one person in there. Home is built around interaction... and when you walk around with your XMB blasting some feel good music, gathering up a few people... and eventually starting a game, that's what it's all about. Being able to "interact" more with others WHILE you're playing games.

This isn't a "second life" or a "getaway" to a new realm because someone hates their own life. No... when someone sits down to play their games, they're interacting during that point of free time, so as to get to know the players you're playing with.

Home isn't asking for you to cook, or clean up after your dog. It's not even asking you to pay bills or dedicate your whole life to it. I have to be honest, the current "Online" system on PS3 AND 360 is very dull & bland. You just don't get the chance to "INTERACT"...

The thing I found cool about this is, you can just walk into a theatre, or a "SHOP" & have everything laid out for you RIGHT there for you to see... you don't have to go searching, it's just there.

It's like a magazine, only you're involved. I could imagine keynotes taking place where you can walk around to different stage areas & witnessing what a producer or executive is presenting... it's that choice as to what you want to do.

People are just too damn close minded for variety these days. I actually think this can do well, I just don't think the videos have been doing justice. There's a lot of potential if you just think about it.

If you're so bothered by it, then go somewhere else & ignore it. It's optional to download anyway... the only thing that isn't optional is for us to listen to your whining.

Intriguing idea - possibilities suggest themselves.

Bet you're unmarried though. Few wives would let their husbands get away with that. Mine puts up already with my violent games etc., and claims to be perfectly happy just watching (although it bugs her if I'm playing an FPS and shoot a woman who then screams). I count myself lucky enough; don't want to push it.

Still, regardless of what you and I do, I suspect that rather than being filled with 20-40 year old males, many of them overweight, Home will somehow be filled with stunning females that don't quite match their aggressively masculine PSN nicknames.

I would agree with that expect I don't see anything to do in Home except walking around and talking to people, which is something you can do in a multi-player game. I don't see why people are so bummed that this got delayed, I guess if there is anything that bothers me about this is that the resources being used for this could be put towards something else.

First, what happened to the clean minimalist look and feel to home, now it looks like a junky Mexican carnival.
Also, I thought the stuttering and pausing was a result of another streaming video about Home, but it looks like that with even one person in the environment is taxing the rendering engine.
This video doesn't revive hope, it diminishes it. Home is looking more like a white elephant then something I am going to actually want to use as my main interface for the PS3.
Another thing is that after the last few firmware updates, I can't stay connected to the PSN for more then 10 - 15 minutes, it always times or errors out. I have checked and rechecked my own home WiFi settings to ensure nothing changed or is causing this to happen, and have found nothing, the only thing that has changed is the firmware. If Home was released today, I am sure that I would have problems with it disconnecting me and dumping me to the XMB every 10 minutes.
I don't know what Sony is doing, but man, I am losing faith in them fast. They got to release Home soon so they can start focusing on fixing obvious problems with the PS3 firmware and start adding more features like online video streaming, online retail for movies and music, and other things like in-game XMB that people have been screaming for. Until that happens, I am becoming more unimpressed with the PS3 week to week. And f*cking release some of these games people have been hyping for years!

I hope there is a way to view the videos w/o the avatar blocking the videos view. Full screen video would be nice... Also, I would have liked to have seen the pool game in action and or other free games instead of 10 minutes of loading & walking around in to no-where-land... Wait a second, I doubt the game play will be free. Lame!

They have always said that Home will be free. Online gaming is free, and so will this.

Also, I'm pretty sure you will be able to see the videos full-screen. I mean, you download it and everything. I'm sure you just have to run up, hit a button, and then have the streaming video fill you screen.

hopefully it'll be like guild wars' engine. You download the updates to the area as you visit it after each patch. This way you download the changed areas and not the entire environment when you go back to it, post patch.

Notice how he's downloading 27MB of info on that second load screen?

Inmho, I think this whole Home concept sucks. The last thing I want to do is run around in some virtual world playing minigames and dressing up an avatar to chat.

If I want to video chat I will do it from my Mac, if I want to preview/order a movie I will do it from iTunes or OnDemand, and if I want to invite people to my house I will do so, not sit around online. I have a life.

You don't walk out on Brothers In Arms! Brothers In Arms walks out on you!

I can see the load times getting a hell of a lot better by release (that's usually what they focus on a couple weeks before a product goes gold). For rich's comment, yes, it is free.

I don't know about other people, but I'm actually excited about this. It offers a whole unique approach when it comes to -console- social interaction. I'm sure there will be a hell of a lot more to do as the community grows, and it'll be fun getting to be a part of the industry events. =)

Right. I have friends all over the place offline; Home would be a cool way to meet up after work, chat, and have a game or two.

Except I gotta get 'em to get PS3s... two have 360s (shudder).

Hardcore gamers will not care about Home which is not a surprise since they will probably be playing games the whole time of owning their PS3, not walking around looking at things or socializing with random people that you probably have nothing in common with anyways. Other gamers, for example, like my g/f or my older girl cousin (both own PS3's btw..surprise!) are looking forward to Home for more of the customization aspects of owning a virtual apartment/condo/penthouse along with their avatar. I, on the other hand, am looking forward to the random games (whether arcade or virtual), the Game Spaces, game launching and 3D Trophies. As for the loading, I will bet that if you have a decent connection (mine's 15Mbps), that when it's reveiled you shouldn't notice any loading, but who knows......

It hurts me to say this, but until there's at least an open beta coming out soon, I don't really care. They've been developing this for quite a while now, and it's not right of them to just keep this behind very closed doors while still wanting to sell PS3s because of it.

Looks a lil bland, more stuff needs to be interactive, if all I can do is run, stare at screens, sit on chairs, talk to people and get blocked by them when im annoying them, then this will be a very dull experience indeed.
