Meet the Team: Griffin McElroy
In the world of professional game blogging, the people are represented by two separate, yet equally important groups: the bloggers who investigate the stories and readers who make silly comments. These are the first group's stories.
- Name: Griffin McElroy
- Job Position: Weekend Editor/Japanese Hardware Sales
- Past Experience/Education: Broadcast Journalism major at Marshall University, gaming feature contributor for Herald-Dispatch (a widely circulated local paper), and Editor for a Herald-Dispatch video game blog (the quaintly titled "Blog: The Video Game"). I've also been involved with a plethora of local journalism enterprises in my fair city, including an indie rock shift at the college radio station, a stint at the college paper, a PR gig with Marshall's alumni association, and an Editor in Chief position at my high school Broadcast News program.
- Life Outside of the 'Stiq: I'm a political blogger with the MTV Choose or Lose Street Team '08, where I cover the national election as it happens from the state of West Virginia. I'm entering my senior year of college and, unsurprisingly, play no small amount of video games.
- Why I'm blogging: To pay for my unslakable hunger for synthetically crafted methamphetamines. Also, because my infatuation with journalism only applies when I'm writing about things I care about, i.e. video games. It sure beats the hell out of covering weekly city council meetings or sports (ewwwww).
- First Game Experience: At the tender age of three, I sat on the corner of my brothers' bunk bed, and would put myself through the unforgiving gauntlet of Super Mario Bros. I often claim that I beat the game before I could read, the truthiness of which has come under much scrutiny over the years.
- Favorite Games: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Pokemon Blue, Burnout 3, World of Warcraft, the Quest for Glory series, Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, Bioshock, GTA: San Andreas, You Have To Burn The Rope
- Favorite Animated Film, Graphic Novel, Type of Sandwich, Olsen Twin, Soda, Travel Author, Former President, and Contestant in Cycle 10 of America's Next Top Model: "The Iron Giant", Watchmen, pepperoni pizza sub, Mary-Kate, Cheerwine, Anthony Bourdain, James K. Polk, and Katarzyna, respectively.
- What's with the Tattoo? Glad you (didn't) ask

Vegnagun bwf @ Jun 3rd 2008 9:59PM
No you're are the one that is the chump. Pokemon blue and you roll a Blastoise. That was the way of the champs.

Anchorman 2! @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:12PM
Oh my god, I knew the first comment was going to be about the abomination that is Pokemon Blue.
Red 4 life!
finnith @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:13PM
Pokemon Yellow is obviously better than both Red and BLue.
Vegnagun bwf @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:14PM
Blue was where it was at, don't play it off like red was better. Blastoise > Charizard. It's a fact.
Tiptup300 @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:15PM
What about Pokemans Green?
Jeff @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:28PM
Don't even. Charizard was useful in so many more situations.
There are much better water types out there than Blastoise...
Jhongerkong @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:40PM
Charizards cool and all but Blastoise has freakin guns in its shell!
GUNS IN HIS SHELL.
BLASTOISE IS PACKING HEAT BABY!
GatorSax2010 @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:50PM

Bleh...If you guys are going to do a Meet the Team with all your bloggers, you might as well as do it TF2-style. On a scale from 1 to 1337, it'd be 1337.
Vegnagun bwf @ Jun 3rd 2008 9:53PM
Griffin. I challenge you to Rock Band expert drums. Gamer tag is Vegnagun451. Go eet.
eNrique @ Jun 3rd 2008 9:55PM

It's okay. I still love your music.
ApolloIV @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:00PM
That is one obscure favorite games list.
Beatz @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:01PM
Watchmen is the best graphic novel ever. The ending still haunts me.
mike @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:27PM
Finally I get to see and read all about these bloggers. Makes me look alot less like a nerd in comparison lol sorry :p
Smurf @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:32PM
I was waiting for Griffin to present himself.
Usually, I just sort through the news that interests me and leave the rest alone. Lately, however, I've taken to reading everything submitted by him (even if the subject matter doesn't interest me in the least); I've come to recognize him (along with his brother) as one of the wittiest writers I've yet to come across, not to mention an incredibly impressive vocab.
I love it when I'm forced (by myself) to visit Dictionary.com after reading one of his articles.
thomas @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:57PM
Wow, you played Arcanum? I didn't know ANYONE had even heard of that game anymore. You're awesome in my book now! :D

Quest for Glory EH!? SPLENDIFEROUS!!!
embassy @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:30PM
mentioning YTHBTR automagically makes you awesome.
anyone else agree that the griffin bros. are kind of a big deal?
embassy @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:32PM
while the griffin boys may indeed be hot ( whoever they are)....the *McElroy* bros. are definitely the bee's knees.
colin @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:40PM

I beat Crysis before I could read, but I'm 23 years old and illiterate, so it doesn’t mean nearly as much.
JBCheese @ Jun 4th 2008 12:27AM
polk really
Sam @ Jun 4th 2008 12:50AM
I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed. Hearing your voice, I pictured a 400 lb virgin with an internet porn addiction. Oh well, I guess everyone can’t meet your expectations.
Derek W. @ Aug 9th 2008 12:28PM
Enough about Justin already!
voodoo_craig @ Jun 4th 2008 12:58AM

Mr Khan @ Jun 4th 2008 10:43AM
Is it true that you only exist between the hours of 10:00 pm on Friday and 11:59 pm on Sunday?
And that during the week you reprise your dual entities as Justin McElroy and Peter Griffin?
Slaziman @ Jun 4th 2008 3:00PM
The only thing I wanted to hear isn't written in this post.
Are the McElroy's family or not???
Griffin McElroy @ Jun 4th 2008 4:39PM
Yes. There are three McElroy siblings, I am the youngest, Justin the oldest. You may also know the middle sibling -- at the age of 17, he changed his name to Zac Efron and set out for the West Coast with stars in his eyes.
JohnnySocko @ Jun 4th 2008 4:11PM
We are! MARSHALL!! We are! MARSHALL!!
Now you know as much about college sports as I do... :P
