See first Bionic Commando multiplayer video
In fact, pretty much everything we know can be encapsulated in this trailer, which actually makes swing-filled deathmatches look kind of fun, even though it sounds like a total clusteryuck. What say you?

boy this Capcom stuff is coming fast and furious, keep it coming.
Color me skeptical on this entire game, just not feeling it so far.
jhrf89 @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:08PM
Looks pretty fluid. I can imagen some pretty fast paced chase scenes. Camera over the sholdour look good aswell.
I hope the maps are exapnsive. This would be best executed in a large space.
The name "Bionic Commando" is absolutly awful though. Sounds like an Action Man toy.
Promising

Someone has either not been playing video games very long or doesn't know this franchise.
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:17PM
That's thats what I thought. I guess he is 18 and his first console was a PS1.
NATO_Duke @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:18PM
Kinda hard to suddenly change the name of a game that was stared in the 80's without losing the nostalgia.
jhrf89 @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:56PM
"That's thats what I thought. I guess he is 18 and his first console was a PS1."
Haha spot on.
My fault *uses wikipedia to research*
wootman @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:06PM
heck im under 18 and have played bionic commando
jhrf89 @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:45PM
Forgive me, for I went outside when I was younger...
gst @ Jul 31st 2008 3:28PM
I went outside too... I just brought a fat ole' Gameboy with me like a good little gamer.
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:08PM
In my opinion, multiplayer looks better in Rearmed.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:22PM
LOL
To be honest it looks more impressive than Gears of War.It only needs a Chainsaw for GOTY.

Mr Esc are you serious? Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Oh god, Fenix, I can NOT TELL YOU how many times I've had that exact image in my head after watching zoolander. Thanks so much for posting it.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:40PM
But I liked it,it looks more colorful too.
Like Halo but without the Matel look.
velocitySTRIKE @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:17PM
Ohhh, so THIS is why there's no Wii version?
Eric @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:18PM
Wow that looks really good.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:20PM
Looks awesome.
Please work on the multiplayer don't let this be like Gears of war or Halo 3.I really hate when a MP is reduced to who got the Rocket Launcher or Sniper rifle first.
epsilon343 @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:22PM
Uh huh...either you've never played those two games or you don't have a grasp of tactics and the proper usage of cover.
xFenixKnightx @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:33PM
Mr Esc.
No, just no. Stop it!
NATO_Duke @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:35PM
...That happens in FPS titles not on the XBox exclusively you know. Dunno why you have to go for the GoW and Halo dig when thats been bitched about in most FPS ever played.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:18PM
No,I use cover and tactics but everyone rushes to get all the cool weapons.
What I meant is that it isn't as strategic as TF2.In Halo and Gears of war most of the time people rush for the sniper rifle. Yeah you are right the Rocket Launcher in Halo isn’t that good.
I like to ambush people and it works except those times I have lag. I'm a good player but is just that I would like to see the matches decided by teamwork and strategy like in TF2.Sometimes in Gears of war matches were decided in Shotgun duels or by the mere fact someone got the sniper rifle.
In Halo 3 thinking about it wasn’t that much about weapon whoring as GTA IV .My bad.
Vcize @ Jun 3rd 2008 2:16PM
Mr Esc, every sentence of your post contradicts the one before it.
Don't try and tell me in one sentence that you were good at Gears and then in the next sentence that you don't find any tactics involved in the game.
And since when the hell is the sniper the overpowered weapon in Gears? Gears weapon balance is quite good, with the most powerful (boomshot) being available only on select maps and at points of conflict (except Garden...broken map) and with two of the most powerful weapons (shotty and lancer, hell even the pistol is strong in that game) being spawn weapons. This isn't Halo 2 where you spawn with an SMG and if you don't get something else you're screwed.
TF2 is fun, but class system does not automatically equal "more tactical".
Without sound cliche'd, it sounds to me like you just never really played any of the hardcore Gears rooms. In a room full of good players, tactics end up playing a huge roll.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:39PM
1-Don't try and tell me in one sentence that you were good at Gears and then in the next sentence that you don't find any tactics involved in the game.
Well I used a strategy that works whihc was ambush and personally I find that strategy cheap.I have tried other strategies but I can’t ever apply them since all of them means getting a certain weapon. If I want to play as sniper I either go first or ask the team which again I remind you this is xbox live and lol that isn’t going to happen.
2-And since when the hell is the sniper the overpowered weapon in Gears?
I don’t know maybe it is the fact it is very easy to use and in the hands of anyone who doesn’t suck at Gears is a potential insta-kill.
3-Gears weapon balance is quite good, with the most powerful (boomshot) being available only on select maps and at points of conflict (except Garden...broken map) and with two of the most powerful weapons (shotty and lancer, hell even the pistol is strong in that game) being spawn weapons.
I find the pistol useless, unless you have the Revolver but that’s different, most of the time.
The Lancer is okay but it takes a lot of ammo to kill anyone. The Chainsaw is pretty awesome but anyone with experience knows how to counter all the chainsaw n00bs.
Boomstick, very effing cheap. Seriously the shotgun is overpowered making some matches a duel between who has the best connection. There are ways to counter it but again the Shotgun is the guerilla best friend making the best way to end a match.Just place yourself where the enemy doesn't see you and wait for them.
4-TF2 is fun, but class system does not automatically equal "more tactical".
Sorta. I find the class system better since I can play as whatever I want instead of waiting for a weapon to respawn or just get all weapons I can get and hope I can adapt to the situation. Each and every class has it own strategies and at some point every class can beat the other if certain conditions are met.
For example a Spy can kill a Pyro, A scout can kill a Heavy, A medic can kill a soldier etc etc if the conditions are met.
There is strategy involved especially in situation where you are outnumbered or defending.
5-Without sound cliche'd, it sounds to me like you just never really played any of the hardcore Gears rooms. In a room full of good players, tactics end up playing a huge roll.
I did a few times but those rooms are hard to find, I was playing Ranked with a bunch of retarded teens and man-kids talking sh*t with the host ending the game when his team sucked. In normal matches there was a bit of strategy involved which again the one I used was ambush which worked as long as I didn’t have lag but it was quite boring.
I haven’t played Gears in a while but I think this was the common strategy.
Never rush if there is a sniper.
Never rush for a weapon, get there first but wait for the other team to get it. In the time they get it blast the other guy with your boomstick then grab the weapon.
Gas grenades are your friends.
Never stay at the same point as sniper. If you see anyone with a big gun never confront it alone.
Flank with the shotgun.
If you are outnumbered because your team sucked, hide and ambush.
What I liked about Gears was the fact I could ambush like in TF2 with the Pyro which is a normal tactic for the class but most of the time it was well repetitive at some point and hearing the xbox live community scream “you are f@gg0t” every time you won gets annoying, hell one guy had 1 star and all the commentaries he had were negative and sincerely the guy deserve them.
Gears of war got repetitive at some point, I haven’t play it lately but I might play it tonight. Also that lately I have a lot of connection problems.
All this talk about Gears of war only makes me want to play it again it also made me kind of hungry.

Not sure if you'll even see this since this blog entry is about to drop off the 1st page, but here goes.
"I don’t know maybe it is the fact it is very easy to use and in the hands of anyone who doesn’t suck at Gears is a potential insta-kill."
Sure, it's easy to use if you're playing against noobs that run around out in the open all day. Anyone that claims to be anything at Gears always knows when a power weapon is picked up and where the guy that has it is at, and the team should communicate that to each other. I understand how this could be frustrating in GP rooms, at this point I only play Gears with people I know so communication is never a problem. And since communication is the biggest part of strategy if you're playing with people who don't communicate that is going to hurt strategy no matter what game you're playing.
Back on the sniper though. It is very powerful. But the thing about Gears is that save two weapons (hammerburst and boltok) EVERY weapon is very powerful. Longshot, Torque, Boom, Lancer, Shotgun, Pistol, Hammer of Dawn. They'd all be overpowered in other games, but since they're all in the game and all similarly powerful they balance each other out. I'd also suggest playing with swaps so that 2 or 3 people on each team can get their hands on power weapons each round. Just get rid of the hammerburst and boltok entirely. Even competitive play in Gears swaps these guns out.
"I find the pistol useless, unless you have the Revolver but that’s different, most of the time."
C'mon man. Play 5 minutes with me and I guarantee you I'll have you crying that the spawn pistol is overpowered. It's powerful enough that it's generally considered "cheap" (although that is because it's a great counter to the shotgun and most people hate putting away their shotguns, but that's another argument entirely) when overused. You realize that 2 shots + melee with the pistol is an instant down, right? And you think the boltok is the one that isn't underpowered? Huh? That's the worst weapon in the game. No one in their right mind even bothers picking it up because it's 10x worse than the pistol you spawn with.
"The Lancer is okay but it takes a lot of ammo to kill anyone."
I think you're about two patches behind here. The lancer is powerful as all hell since the last patch, too powerful if you ask me. It takes less than a second to down someone with it if you can hold the fire on them and less than half a second if you have an active.
"Seriously the shotgun is overpowered making some matches a duel between who has the best connection."
If it's one on one, pistol counters shotgun. Experienced players know to keep their distance from a pistol and can bring it back around even, but against your average player you can win a pistol vs. shotty matchup 9 out of every 10 times. Guaranteed.
"For example a Spy can kill a Pyro, A scout can kill a Heavy, A medic can kill a soldier etc etc if the conditions are met."
In TF2 it's class counters, in Gears it's weapon counters. If you don't like waiting for respawns just play with swaps. The cool thing about Gears is that even though each weapon has a specific counter, just having the counter is not a big enough advantage to make it a free win.
"I did a few times but those rooms are hard to find, I was playing Ranked with a bunch of retarded teens and man-kids talking sh*t with the host ending the game when his team sucked."
I heartily suggest finding a gaming community to play with the same 100 or so non-12 year old guys across all games. It has increased my gaming experience (in every game) exponentially.
"What I liked about Gears was the fact I could ambush"
Meh, any player worth their salt in Gears knows that if it's quiet around a central weapon spawn to walk up to it first like you're going to pick it up and see if it pops up. "Ambushing" guys as they pick up weapons with the guys I play with has never really been a legit tactic because everyone is smart enough to avoid it. Gears is small and intimate enough (in map size and number of players) to keep track of where the entire other team is through communication. This means that flanking, etc should be hard in a good game of Gears (especially since anyone worth his salt that is at the back of his team knows to check behind every couple seconds) and it takes a plethora of teamwork to pull off a successful flank, unlike other larger shooters where there are so many players that no one really knows where each player on the other team is and you can easily just get lost and end up behind people by chance.
Man I'm gonna get voted down for that long ass post, lol.

Also, play execution (not warzone) with short down times. If a Sniper downs you, his only way to finish you is by triple downing you (wait till you start to get up, down you again, then repeat again) at which point you call for a teammate to either get you up as soon as you go down, put some fire on the sniper so he can't stand there waiting for you to get up, or take a bullet for you (after the 2nd consecutive active reload with the sniper the active bar turns into a sliver so the likelihood that he then is able to triple down your teammate with 5 consecutive active reloads is small).

Im sure theres no wii version because only nintendo games and third party mini game collections sell well. Buy a real game console if you want to play it.
xFenixKnightx @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:26PM
Wow, that was meh.
NATO_Duke @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:33PM
It would be more exciting as a badass XBL/PSN title, but for a retail product - I predict its hard to get people to buy it up.
Yet, "The first true sequel to the classic 1988 Nintendo Entertainment System original, Bionic Commando sees the return of the bionically-enhanced Nathan "Rad" Spencer, voiced by Mike Patton, the former lead singer of Faith No More."
That factoid makes me more interested. In fact, now I care a lot!
Velops @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:53PM
This clip was so generic and forgettable in so many ways. I had to watch it a second time to make sure there was a moment the bionic arm is actually used. The single most important mechanic is barely given any screen time, almost like an afterthought. This game is seriously on the verge of getting lost in the crowd.
wootman @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:08PM
actually, that looks pretty awesome.
as anyone who has played AHL can vouch, a little more mobility can greatly change how fights turn out.
lets look at what this shows you, you can scale buildings, jump off of them with no damage, and use shockwaves and push people off of things.
lost planet + spiderman looks sweet.
Brian Fantana @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:30PM
Looks OK. Lost Planets multiplayer was fun for about 2 days. This looks like it will be about like that.
nick @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:43PM
I really liked Lost Planet multiplayer, this looks as though it will be along those lines.
mkernan @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:58PM

Lakewell @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:08PM
This looks fun to me. The bionic arm is what makes it. Kind of like a multiplayer spiderman, which totally sounds super great. I just hope the weapons are done well, and not like they are in GTA multiplayer.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:36PM
That was exactly what I was trying to say.
Travis @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:07PM
as long as you can teabag the opponent...with the bionic arm flailing in the breeze...

Since when can Bionic Commandos JUMP!!!?!?! Other than that, this looks kinda cool (sorta reminds me of Crackdown, which was totally underrated).
RobLink (Return of the McElroy Defence Force) @ Jun 3rd 2008 8:01PM
Not by me, I loved that game. Keep on meaning to pick it back up, but the DLC didn't warrant another play through.
