Team Fortress 2 Pyro class next in line for upgrade
Following the generous upgrades given to Team Fortress 2 Medics earlier this year, it now appears that the Pyro class is next to be doused in flame-retardant achievements and fiery, unlockable weapons. Citing the latest issue of PC Gamer, CVG also reports that Valve plans similar additions for the game's remaining classes, though the timing of these future updates has not yet been revealed.
Likewise a mystery is what Pyro players can expect from the new achievement-fueled equipment roll out, though we expect it to mirror what was given to Medics, only with less healing and more toasting anything that moves.

I hardly ever play this game anymore, but when I do the pyro is the best.
PojoMofo @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:38PM
I dont give a F*CK since PS3 version never gets updates
chez @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:49PM
Why on gods earth did you actually spend money on that and not be a normal human being and buy the PC version? Nowhere was it mentioned prior to launch that either console version was going to hold a candle to the PC version.
Poisoned Al @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:57PM
You bought the PS3 version, and you expect us to feel sorry for you?
el serpiente @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:58PM
I thought you only used macs, chezburger?
ballistic3188 @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:00PM
you would have thunk with the a delay of PS3 version and throwing the PS3 port to EA of all people then the constant spew of PS3 hate from GAbe newell would have tipped you off that the ps3 is probably never going to get the updates
äsdf @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:07PM
@el serpiente
FYI, the PC version of TF2 can run on Macs in multiple ways.
chez @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:24PM
El Serpent-thingy (the person who wished death upon another Joystiq user) is getting a little stupider with each post. He/she thinks Macs can't run PC apps? Wow.
mackid105 @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:03PM
I am living proof of running PC stuff on a mac. I run XP through boot camp on my MBP, runs games amazing! TF2 is one of my favs i cant wait for all the upgrades. More people should get macs run windows and play games they're very good at it, yea i know building a system is cheaper
Anticrawl @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:03PM
You're an idiot. Why would you buy a port on the PS3 from a company that despises the PS3 (SEE: Valve hates PS3 articles and comments from employees).
Anticrawl @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:05PM
@mackid105
Hi zombie, here's some of Steve Job's brains, now go out and buy more overpriced products with shitty file structure.
Grimble Crumble @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:18PM
I am sorry, but Mac users sound so stupid sometimes. "I can run PC programs on my Mac by using XP". No, you dumb fuck, you are running PC programs on a PC that uses proprietary hardware made by Apple. If you are going to use XP anyway, why waste hundreds of dollars just to run OSX?
Anticrawl @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:54PM
@Grimble Crumble
Because they want to look trendy while running a useful OS?
Bouille @ Jun 4th 2008 8:41AM
... Any REAL gamer will tell you FPS games are played on a PC not on any other crappy platform. WASD + Razer Mouse > Controller.
Now with that said, having bought it on a console isn't that bad. I mean Xbox Live is a great online service for gaming and the 360 version is very well made. However, the PS3 version was made just to say there is a PS3 version. It's the most unstable of all versions and will get NO love from the dev team.
Now for the Mac noobs, yea you know yourself. Hardware -wise a "mac" is a PC, it just puts priority on Mac's OS. The beauty of Windows is you can have ANY machine with ANY specs and run windows on it. As to Macs come on Apple branded machines (+1000 to 2000$). I run Vista (YEA MOUTA FAXING VISTA) and I have NO PROBLEM with my system. I actually run TF2 better then on an XP machine. If you spent as much money on a PC machine then on a Mac machine you could easily get a machine twice as powerfull. Learn to spend your money wisely.
Blazur @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:46PM
Really looking forward to this, but my suspicion is we won't be seeing it anytime soon. It could possibly be a 2 month window between each class update, knowing VALVe's slow release schedule.
chez @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:47PM
Fuck yea! Pyro and Spy were my old faves before I settled on Demo and Engineer.
Between this and Steam Cloud (or whatever that was called) Valve are single handedly becoming gods who everyone needs to follow.
Korova *Pyro aspect* @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:53PM
whoM! whom everyone needs to follow.
I HATE THE FUCKING HUMMINGBIRD. AND ITS BEGINNING TO RUB OFF ON JOYSTIQ.
FACK THE BIRD!
Korova *Pyro aspect* @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:48PM
I am ready for an update, so I can light up all the Joystiq flame warz!
LaughingTarget @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:53PM
Make it engineer next and I'm happy. All three of my favs go first.
Poisoned Al @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:58PM
Just as long as the sniper last. Like the fucking campers need another reason to be that shitty class.
Jacksons @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:07PM
I love when the snipers in 2fort do nothing but keep the other team's snipers in check.
Scotto @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:23PM
@ LaughingTarget
My suspicion is that the Soldier and Engineer (and possibly the Heavy), will be the last classes to get updates.
Valve mentioned that they chose the Medic first, because stats showed it was the least used class in the game, and they wanted to get more people using it.
As you have probably noticed, the Engineer is one of the most popular classes in the game.

goboColossus (LIVE, PSN - gobopop) @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:59PM
If that's really why they did it, I'm not looking forward to the announced 360 version Medic update. I like being the only one playing the match to use the Medic. At least they'll all stop when they get their Achievements.
Cool news all around though, hope it makes it's way to 360 version sooner rather than later.
capt_carl @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:59PM
Awesome. I don't play Pyro much, but when I do, it's a blast.
Poisoned Al @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:59PM
Aw, I wanted the solder to be next :(
Anticrawl @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:16PM
Soldier got the first update, they were nerfed.
wscbrown @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:01PM
I hope they implement a flamethrower that can create temporary flame walls or would create flaming pools of fuel. That'd be a great tactical addition (especially in some of the payload maps)...
But how could you really update the shotgun? Incendiary rounds? That'd be sweet!
Jacksons @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:04PM
I hope they're not as asinine as some of the medic ones are. Some of those you can only (realistically) obtain in carefully constructed and planned out clan matches. When you're forced to obtain them all or be put at a disadvantage, that's poor game design in my opinion.
mundox @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:05PM
Nice I hope this weapons give the pyro a much needed help, since right now he's kind of worthless :(
Poisoned Al @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:15PM
Just because you're crap at that class, doesn't make it worthless.
JonFitt @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:20PM
He is definitely the most in need of a tune up.
caramelzappa @ Jun 8th 2008 2:23AM
Then you just suck at playing pryo. I do very well with the pyro, but I can't get kills as a spy or sniper. Does that make those classes suck? No, I just don't play them well.
wscbrown @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:06PM
I think that Engineer could have some of the most unique and interesting acheivements as well as some of the coolest upgrades, if done correctly. Only time will tell, I suppose.
glucoseboy @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:12PM
Cool, upgrades make the game more interesting to play. New strategies to deal with the new stuff. Personally, I would like the Engineer to be up next. Spy detectors? Cooler sentry guns (lasers, or flame?) Bring it!
chez @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:25PM
I was about to suggest the medic be able to uber SGs but that wouldn't be an engineer upgrade now would it.
chez @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:27PM
Which class has the gravity gun?
danny. @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:34PM
Not sure... Scouts get the portal gun though
Einhanderkiller @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:33PM
Career Spies are going to hate this update.
Heh heh heh....
Archr5 @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:34PM
My hope is either an napalm rocket launcher, or a napalm grenade launcher. Something that will give the pyro a bit of area denial punch.
It'll be a blast to chase someone into an area you set on fire behind them with one of your new weapons.
chez @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:57PM
The pyro is a close combat kinda fighter. I doubt we'll be seeing mega ossom projectile attacks.
Flaming axe would be literally hot stuff.
Kevin @ Jun 3rd 2008 7:26PM
those weapons sound more likely for the soldier and demo, respectively.
HighFiveJesus @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:34PM
how do you unlock these weapons? I don't play much but i am not sure how to get the medic's either.
sicsided @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:01PM
they are on PC version only, but to get them, there are new achievements to earn. With the medic I believe there are 27 or so? After you earn the first 12, you get a new one, then the next 12, and so on. Some of them are easy as to be the first to switch to medic on a map and heal for 500 points or as hard as heal 1,000,000 million heal points.
colin @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:39PM
Demo > all, but sometimes i have to switch to take care of some speed bumps.
GreyFox @ Jun 3rd 2008 7:01PM
Pro tip Valve: Rolling out new content like this in pairs will avoid newb's rushing the class for achievements.
colin @ Jun 3rd 2008 8:04PM
i find that it isn't the noobs, but actually the "hardcore" gamers that swarmed to the medic when the achievements came out. that way they are the first to get the 1337 buttsucker.
MuToiD_MaN @ Jun 3rd 2008 7:02PM
Fire in the morning, fire in the evening, fire at supper time!!!
colin @ Jun 4th 2008 5:31AM
when fire's on a bagel???
chispito @ Jun 3rd 2008 7:12PM
Well, following the lead of the medic upgrade, I'd assume they'll have alternate weapons for each of the primary 3.
Ideally I'd like to see the shotgun get changed out first, since anything beyond short to medium range is bad news.
Whubbsie @ Jun 3rd 2008 7:27PM
I haven't managed to unlock any of the medic weapons yet and I play constantly...
