Amazon has Mass Effect and Gears of War for $35

Thrifty (and, if you've yet to play either of these, add negligent to this list of adjectives) gamers take note: Amazon's offering two great Xbox 360 games at a pretty steep discount. Both Mass Effect and Gears of War are only $35 (that's down from $60, people!) just for today; keep in mind, both of these games were amongst Joystiq's favorites in their respective release years.

Now, if you want our advice, we're gonna say to hold off on Gears of War – what with the two-disc special edition being released later this month for just $40. Don't care about all that "special" crap, just want to shoot bug monsters in the face? Then place your order, friend. We like your style.

First $100 gift card for a ps3, then mass effect for $35. Everything's coming up Milhouse.

Mass Effect is great. I'd recommend anybody who likes action rpgs (or any of Bioware's old stuff) pick this up immediately!

This post could also have been called "Games With Generic, Similar Boxart On Sale For $35 At Amazon".

I'll take generic boxart with everysingle badass game out there thankyou verymuch. ;) Guess they aren't as snazzy as BoomBlox's box art eh? lol!

Haha, fair point, they're actually the same as the Halo 1 box art as well (I was actually thinking about this the other day, weird).

Nonetheless, the games behind the generic box art are epic and should be played by any xbox 360 owner.

The tins that come with the collector's editions (funny, these are like the only 2 games I have collector's editions for) are pretty sweet though. Especially the Gears one, which is probably my favorite game packaging of any game on any system.

Yup Gears CE is very nice indeed. Gears 2 CE already paid for and ready 2 go ;)

Generic box art or no, both games are not to be missed. A couple of the best games on 360.

I rented and beat GOW but never really got into the multiplayer. How is it?

not bad...the online gears community is SHIT though. Whiny 10 year olds almost of a halo magnitude. If you have real friends you can play online with, it is a BLAST. Great game. Not CoD4 deep, but nice

Cool thanks. I do love my COD4. GTA4 multiplayer isn't bad either. There's just a bit of delay and if all the players aren't on the same page it can get a bit frustrating. But fun as heck and hilarious too.

With the right people (I only play with friends now) it borders the best I've ever played. I still play it until 2am every night (have to be up for work before 7am the next day) a year and a half after release, and it's never been outside the top 5 games played on XBL even though it's the oldest game in the top 10 list (a few weeks ago it was #3).

Me lovey.

However, with the GP it can admittedly start to wear on you since it's a game that is best played with a lot of communication.

The online community in every single popular online MP game is the same. You get some cool peeps who are seriously into winning, communicating well, have good teamwork and eventually send you a friend request because they know you were also a good teammate. You get the young kids that curse a lot and think they can whip your ass and sometimes do. You get the jokers who are fun just to listen to and then the mutes with no mic at all.

Same in all popular MP games. All of them. The good thing is that there is always the [Mute] button right there at your disposal. Quick and easy.

Gears multi had potenial, but unbalanced weapons, network issues and the most immature community since Halo 2 ruined it for me.

But the online co-op with a friend canNOT be beat!

There is no reason for any XBox 360 owner to not have at least tried Mass Effect

Interesting. I'll consider Mass Effect, however Gears is a rip. I bought it new for 40$ almost 2 christmases ago at best buy.

Therefore, after today, everyone should own Mass Effect.
