Guitar Hero: Aerosmith won't support GH3 DLC

It will also be impossible for those who've purchased only Guitar Hero: Aerosmith to access and download tracks currently available for GH3. For those with both games: prepare for disc-swapping. The carry-over of DLC into Guitar Hero: Aerosmith seemed like a real no-brainer; hopefully Neversoft will take Guitar Hero fans' previous purchases into account while nailing down Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero: Metallica's feature sets.

Not surprised at all.
Sam Earl @ Jun 4th 2008 5:10PM
Not surprised, no, but they should have! It's not even as if it would be a hard thing to do...
jsn @ Jun 4th 2008 5:32PM
could very well be a song rights issue. If they didn't license the songs for use across multiple games then they couldn't allow them to be used.
aReEeNeN @ Jun 4th 2008 5:07PM
Meh, I'm just glad I got Rock Band instead.
JonFitt @ Jun 4th 2008 5:57PM
I dunno. I would not be surprised if all of the licenses were specific to "Rock Band".
Rock Band 2 would therefore require everyone to get re-paid.
Rock Band could be expanded and patched for some time though.
lectoid @ Jun 4th 2008 7:22PM
I've read a few places that the developers said Rock Band content would carry over. Not saying that means you can bet on it. Just what I've read. And since I read it on the internet, it has to be true.
LaughingTarget @ Jun 4th 2008 5:08PM
Makes no sense to me. Bethesda didn't tell us we couldn't use horse armor or Mehrune's Razor because we installed Shivering Isles.
Mikazi @ Jun 4th 2008 6:02PM
Shivering Isles is an expansion pack, GH:Aerosmith is a different game using the GH3 engine. What Bethesda did is not the same thing :)
brad77 @ Jun 4th 2008 8:19PM
I think that he's being sarcastic, Mikazi. It could be argued that GH: Aerosmith is simply an expansion pack in disguise.
bearxor @ Jun 4th 2008 5:08PM

BWWWAAHHHHH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!
JonFitt @ Jun 4th 2008 5:53PM
I know. It's like Randy lives in this magic world where Activision gives a crap about its customers and arcane music licensing restrictions don't apply.
Look at me, I'm Randy Nelson! I'm making people happy! I'm the magical man - from Happyland! In a gum-drop house on Lollypop Lane! ...
Lone Starr @ Jun 4th 2008 5:08PM
This isn't really big but nevertheless not the sort of press GH needs right now.
Daniel @ Jun 4th 2008 5:09PM
I don't see why this could be construed as an issue, quite honestly.
Roto13 @ Jun 4th 2008 5:11PM
I agree. I have to wonder why anyone would actually care about this.
Sora267 @ Jun 4th 2008 5:14PM
Because GH:A is basically GH3 with Aerosmith songs. No interface changes AT ALL AFAIK. They literally took GH3 and replaced the story mode and songs with Aerosmith material. That's why it's an issue.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 4th 2008 7:37PM
Maybe is because this is totally GHEY.
I never bought GH3 but I wanted to buy GH:A and GH3 DLC was pretty good and there are some cool songs but the fact you can get those on the Aerosmith version is a complete non-sense.Both games are exactly the same and there isn't any good reason why people that got GH:A shouldn't be able to get GH:3 DLC since is the same game only different songs.
PojoMofo @ Jun 4th 2008 5:09PM
PojoMofo will not support GH:A, I hope this game fails miserabley
Mr.ESC @ Jun 4th 2008 7:32PM
Mr.ESC think thats speaking about himself in 3rd person makes him sound important and not like a really crazy person.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 4th 2008 7:34PM
Mr.ESC added an "S" where he shouldn't so Mr.esc ask you to ignore that issue in his post.
Mr.Esc is very upset about this.
Mr.Esc Smash!

Strike 42 from me...
I'm waiting for the change of inning by this point. "Oh look, Activision continues to fuck up Guitar Hero. And this just in, Nazi's still considered unpopular amongst Jewish Communities."
That's right, bitches. Godwin's Law in effect (pedal)!
Erik Johnson @ Jun 4th 2008 5:16PM
Selling you half the game GH III was for the same price sounds about right for Activision.
Sveppi @ Jun 4th 2008 5:15PM
Silly Activision, I don't see this as a good move for them. Then again it's not surprising at all.
Dudeman @ Jun 4th 2008 5:17PM
I would like to first comment that Guitar Hero: Metallica is the best of the full game based on one band ideas activision has had.
What happened to the guitar hero U2 game that was mentioned back when aerosmith was first brought about? Again, I don't actually want to buy the U2 one and would rather they make Metallica first but was just wondering.
Saneless @ Jun 5th 2008 10:44AM
I don't love metallica and I'm not sure if I'll buy the game or not..
But at LEAST Metallica is known for guitars. Aerosmith is known (and why I hate them) for Steven Tyler. GH:Metallica would probably actually be good to play from a mechanics standpoint.
GH:Ass is going to be lame. #1 the sound of Tyler's voice is horrible. #2, did anyone play Dream on? I've never fallen asleep during an EXPERT level song but that one did it to me. They're not a guitar band, it's just going to be a dull ride.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 4th 2008 5:16PM
I'm shocked anyone was surprised by this. Activision thinks of these games as seperate titles, not expansions, and I believe are selling them for full price. Could you use GH 2 DLC in GH 3 or the 80s? Not that I remember.
ZenGaijin @ Jun 4th 2008 8:45PM
GH2 and 3 were made by two different companies Rocks the 80's was also only on PS2 which didn't support DLC.
DiddlyKong @ Jun 4th 2008 5:18PM
"We've confirmed with Activision that Guitar Hero: Aerosmith will not allow users to access content for GH3."
Conversation with Activision:
Joystiq: Hello Activision, we here at Joystiq wanted to know if the DLC from Guitar Hero 3 will be backwards compatible with Guitar Hero Aerosmith.
Activision: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH NO BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Thanks for that goodbye.
Jhongerkong @ Jun 4th 2008 5:51PM
Joystiq: GH3 DLC backwards compatibility?
Activision: lol, wut?
Courtney @ Jun 4th 2008 5:17PM
Wow, way to support your fan base guys.
Scott @ Jun 4th 2008 5:19PM
While it's a happy thought, I highly doubt that any GH3 content would carry over into World Tour. I'm sure the programming is completely different (at least that would be the excuse) since they'll have drums and all that.
Farseer (GDI) @ Jun 4th 2008 5:46PM
Dude, if they won't bring DLC over into the exact same game, then there is no way they will bring it over to a game with additional instruments.
Ghen @ Jun 4th 2008 5:18PM
This news doesn't bother me. GH:A is not an expansion pack, it can't be.. There's just too much data on the disc.
OMGOMG @ Jun 4th 2008 5:19PM
Really?? Are you saying that Neversoft and Activision are trying to screw over customers who have paid money for their product???
I'm quite shocked, really.
Like I said before, the only thing GH: World Tour won't copy from Rock Band is the DLC.
Martez @ Jun 4th 2008 5:21PM
Just confirms that Harmonix is the only music-game company that actually understands what the hell it is doing.
Jerk Face @ Jun 4th 2008 5:23PM
Wait. People are actually planning on BUYING this game? I figured it wouldn't matter anyway, on account of how much Aerosmith fails at being culturally relevant or musically talented.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 4th 2008 5:30PM
No you don't have to convince many people on the internet not to buy GH aerosmith. Dunno how it'll sell as a whole though.
Now for GH Metallica, good luck a lot of people not to buy that. That game's a guaranteed multi-million copy seller.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 4th 2008 5:30PM
i meant to say good luck *convincing*...
LeadBoxx @ Jun 4th 2008 5:54PM
Jerk Face holy shit! Did you used to post on the QOTSA forum all the time?
ForwardAnimation @ Jun 4th 2008 5:27PM
Yeah absolutely no surprise at all. Of course Activision and Neversoft would do this. C'mon...these are the same guys that used to whore out the Tony Hawk franchise. They'll do the same thing to Guitar Hero! It won't be long (probably with GH World Tour) until they start making stale, lackluster, cookie-cutter Guitar Hero games. They're whoring out the franchise already: OnTour, World Tour, and Aerosmith, Metallica, and heck I even saw a mini-Guitar Hero LCD game at the store the other day. Activision and Neversoft could care less about the gaming community. Why do you think we can't play Rock Band guitars on GH3? Why do you think they're forcing us to buy a new drum set that you and I both know will be uncompatible with Rock Band?
Its typical Activision. They'll whore out whatever franchise they have just make a buck. They'll run Guitar Hero to the ground.
OMGOMG @ Jun 4th 2008 5:33PM
It shows you how most first party titles know what they're doing. Let the game sell itself. Not saying that you should advertise the game, but you can make as much money by making a great polished game than medicore frequent installments. It's just a shame developers do the ladder much more often now.
Brian @ Jun 4th 2008 5:32PM
Wait...GH3 had DLC?????
At least I didn't invest hundreds into DLC like I did with RB. I hope they can carry over DLC.
Eric @ Jun 4th 2008 5:32PM
Everyone repeat after me "This is why i will buy rockband!"
Knight Marquise @ Jun 4th 2008 7:27PM
Already bought RB, and it was a waste of money. Guarenteed I'll be picking this up as well as the GH band game.
Has anyone actually stopped to engage their brains and consider this could be a rights issue with the musicians? Hell, that seems a helluva lot more likely to me.
Of course, RB is the favorite child on joystiq. It'll be interesting to see the fur fly when RB2 fails to support RB dlc.
burgerbat @ Jun 5th 2008 12:12AM
Rock Band is the clear favorite of every gaming site. Except for GameInformer, which wrote a knob-polishing preview of GH4 (or GH BAND GAME as you know it)which pretty much just described a lame version of Rock Band with a crappy music creator stuffed in. Why can't you GH apologists come to your senses and realize when you're wrong? Activision are KILLING this genre, and people like Knight Marquis are their target audience.
And frankly, this news makes me happy, because I never bought any GH3 DLC, and I made my mind up long ago to not buy GH4. And I probably wouldn't care if my $70 of DLC for RB doesn't work in RB2 if they decide to make a radical change in gameplay. But not putting GH:3 DLC in GH:A is just plain fucking stupid, and you would think you GH apologists would be a little angry.
Saneless @ Jun 5th 2008 10:45AM
to burgerbat: Game informer didn't write a love fest for GH4. All they simply said was that Guitar Hero will change music gaming forever or something very light and non-ass kissing.
Ok, I'm being sarcastic. That cover was shit and I can't believe what I saw. It's like saying Tony Hawk Wasteland 3 will change the world!! Um, no, it's derivative, thanks.
Koolsen @ Jun 4th 2008 5:39PM
I swear if Rockband 2 pulls this ****... Heads will roll, people wil be kidnapeed, etc. etc.
Boffo the Sock @ Jun 5th 2008 1:47PM
Heads will roll, throats will be slit, blood will flow like springs of waaaaaterrr. HEADS WILL ROLL!
deaftly @ Jun 4th 2008 5:48PM
Like anyone is going to buy this
ChooChooCharlie (MK 0430-8740-2222) @ Jun 4th 2008 6:56PM
I only wish that were true. For the sake of the future of the rhythm game genre.
Farseer (GDI) @ Jun 4th 2008 5:49PM
Seriously, though. This will still sell thousands of copies. Activision knows that the name is all they need to sell these games, and they will milk it until it is dry.
