Chances of me buying this just went from slim to none.

In fact, I'm thinking of sending Joystiq an invoice for the time I spent reading about Activision's latest money grab.

People said it above: it may very well have to do with licensing issues. Even so, Neversoft is going to have to prove itself in the field of DLC and this isn't a good way to start.

Kinda bums me out that all these GH:BAND games don't feature any bands I like, wheres Guitar Hero: U2, Guitar Hero: Beatles, or hell I'd even buy Guitar Hero: Dave Mathews Band

Support Harmonix, not Activision.

Activision are either huge assholes or incompetent. They should have been able to work out a license that let you keep your songs. They were either too stupid or cavalier to do so.

Oh, come on! Can't they be BOTH huge assholes AND incompetent?

Morons. Looks like GH3 is the last version of Guitar Hero I will own...

We'll see if Harmonix pulls the same crap with Rock Band 2.

Harmonix has already announced they're pushing for backwards compatibility with their DLC on Rock Band and its future iterations, which makes sense. Who wants to download 100+ tracks that they already own and pay for them multiple times?

Dear Activision:
No problem with this latest information. No worries :). It actually will not affect most of us since we are not buying it.
Sincerely,
Most Gamers

Why the hell does anyone still play/buy Guitar Hero games when Rock Band exists? RB is superior in every way (except the guitar itself, which you can buy without the game). I have no interest in any future GH games, especially Aerosmith and Sucktallica. Seriously, they're released one decent CD since 19friggin89, and that was a cover album. The only talented writer in the band died 20 years ago.

Oooh, i'm going to run right out and rebuy all my vinyl albums on CD! Oh wait, that was and always will be retarded. It's the same damn game, with slightly different art and tracks on the disc!

I do not buy into this "licensing" bullshit. If Activision/Neversoft/RedOctane or whoever did not negotiate licenses that allow one to take DLC between nearly identical games, they have shitty lawyers. I suspect the motivation is more along the lines of nickel-and-diming their most loyal customers.

Watch, they probably even made previous GH guitars incompatible with the new World Tour, forcing everyone to buy multiple "new" guitars.

I'm failing to the see the problem here. If you already own GH3 then you don't need a guitar. So it's basically a $50 collection of songs, which is probably a bargain when you consider how much all those songs would have been on DLC.

I say boycott this game and send a message this company. If they think that they can compete with rockband and rape their current fans by not just releasing this lame stand alone game as a hefty psn and xbl download their greedy bastards. Let wii people pay for a stand alone, we know theyve got money to waist since theres no great wii games out there.

Wait, isn't this something that has to do with Sony and Microsoft? I recall hearing something similar back when GHIII was first coming out about how Microsoft isn't allowing cross-game DLC like they did with the original XBox (see: DDR Ultramix series). DDR Universe has the same problem. I don't know if Sony has the same policy, but if they don't I wouldn't be surprised if Activision decided to nix it on both consoles for the sake of saving themself some backlash.

Why don't they just print some more copies of Guitar Hero II? It's ridiculous how fast they stopped selling that game. Hell, I can still find copies of Taiko Drum Master at my local Best Buy, why can't I get a copy of Guitar Hero II?

Most of you guys are idiots along with Joystiq. You guys make it sound like when GH:A comes out then you can no longer play GH3 anymore? Are you guys that freaken lazy that you can't get up and change the disc to play the DLC you purchased in GH3? I know I wouldn't want to sell or trade GH3 in because of the stuff purchased for it already. You guys make it seem like once the new game comes out you just HAVE to get rid of GH3 and or never play it again. Which I'm pretty sure most of you are all under 18/16 and don't buy your games with your own money instead it's what mommy and daddy buy you so your perfectly fine for trading in a $60-100 game in for not even half what you paid for since it's not your money you spent on it.

Once you guys start buying your games then you'll see how much of a waste it is to be trading in your games. Even if you trade it in right away you get shit compared to what you paid for it. Slowly you'll start to see your collection grow because you'll understand the value you paid for something with your money and don't want to be giving it away for hardly anything.

So I have no problem with this. I was going to buy another guitar so my kids could play together eventually, this is just better since both guitars will be able to be used on both GH3 and GH:A, plus I'll still have GH3 so if I want to play those tracks or the DLC then I can just put GH3 in and everything is still there. I and no one else is losing their GH3 DLC once you put GH:A into your console... ahhh, the joys of the internet and little kids being on it bitching all the time about nothing...
