MGS4 deserves it. And If the Story line and, Pacing? Are the only thing that other reviewers are not liking...Than this game must be great all around.

MGS4 GOTY!

Congrats MGS4. Up there with the greats like Vagrant Story - one of my personal favourites.

Glad to see MGS4 getting the recognition it deserves and joining the ranks of classics such as Vagrant Story and Ocarina of Time . . . though I really don't think FFXII should have gotten a perfect score (IMO its one of the worst of the series) (don't hate, I said IMO haha)

Haha I shall counter your opinion with that of my own by saying I think it was the BEST in the series. There I said it!

FFXII is a masterpiece, but understandably not everyones cup of tea.

You do have to acknowledge though, any games that scores perfect in Famitsu deserves its props, as the games its lists with maybe the exception of Nintendogs (really!?) is legendary.

I dont think XII was the best. its between XII and VII. Sure it had amazing graphics, gameplay, and features but the story wasnt as great as VII's. VII had animations, a movie, and tons of other stuff. Who do you like more? Cloud or Vaan? Vincent or that guy with the scar(i suck at remembering)? Tifa or Ashe/that other girl? Sephiroth or the final boss of the XII(dammit i forgot who, i need to play it again.)

But imo, XII was a great game because of how lazy you could be in that game in order to save your strength for the bosses. Set your gambits just right, and all you have to do is move your characters and they'll fight for themselves and maybe press the x button a couple times to progress through the game.

Oh wait i remember now. the scar gy was Bashe or Basch and the other girl was Penelo. Who was the final boss? Anyone? no? Guess i have to play it agian.

The License Board was awesome like the Sphere Grid from FFX(oh my god, i remembered. All these memories just seemed to keep coming back.).

Japanese mag selling to a Japanese audience reviewing Japanese games. Doesn't hurt the relevance of the score in this case though.

I think it does.

It does hurt the relevance of this score because as you stated yourself different audiences on different shores like different things. In effect making their score irrelevant on any other shore.

I WANT to like MGS. I LOVED Metal Gear Ac!d. But I tried the others in the series and it just didn't hold me for long.

I wouldn't want to change a game with such a long history to it but if they were to make another, similar game without the weird little things and incomprehensible storyline, I might be more interested.

People are glad to see MGS4 get what it deserves? How do these people know?

I for one am hopeful. I can't say whether this game will deserve a perfect score, personally I am put off by its quirky tale but that doesn't mean it won't be a hit.

I can see the headlines now, "MGS4 is just as good as Nintendogs!"

As long as MGS4 sells as well as Nintendogs did, then Sony wouldn't complain about those headlines!
:)

The funny thing about these 40/40 ratings is that it doesn't mean you'll actually like the game. Nintendogs obviously isn't for everyone, but neither is FF XII or Soul Caliber... However, they are all great games that accomplish exactly what they set out to do.

MGS4 doesn't excite me at all (the MGS series just isn't my type of game) but it does look absolutely gorgeous. Props to Kojima and company for their accomplishment.

I've never played it, but Nintendogs was one of the big games that started the DS boom in Japan everyone had it or wanted it.. perhaps the start of the "casual gaming" trend.

Well that's your opinion, the 4 reviewers from Kotaku all felt it was a 10/10. What would you rate GTA IV? I saw the "stellar reviews" it received online, but lots of people I know said it's more like an 8/10 in their opinion. You can't tell someone their opinion is wrong.

Personally I prefer Kotaku's reviews. They let you make up your own score, and just tell you if they liked it or not.

@wtf, what is the point of having a scoring system if you can't give a perfect score? If u complain about this, and anyother perfect scores, then DON'T read reviwes! Also to note, if any reviewer gives this game an average, or low score, then they should FERKIN' quite the industry and find another job!

One more thing to add, I agree with most about GTA4. It was a really good game, but NO way a perfect score. This is how much credablity these "reviewers" all have. GTA4 did not advance, innovate in anyway from past GTA games, apart from looks. In fact, it went bacwards when they took out leveling up weapons and buying houses etc, etc and everyone still gives it a perfect score all round, work that one out... don't get me wrong, I like GTA. So, let's see what these "so called experts" think of MGS4 and it's amazing evolution and countless amounts of innovation when they all review it soon. Ferk anyone who gives it a bad score!

Idk after I read that article on Konami acting like Gestapos with the game critics telling them how to review the game i see this "perfect" score not soo reliable as they may seem :-/
