Sony Europe announced today that production at the Sony London Studios for PS3 titles Eight Days and The Getaway has ceased. The company says the decision was made after an internal review found that resources would be better allocated to enhance the "incredibly strong list of exclusive first party titles" coming in the near future.
GI.biz reports that The Guardian recently ran a piece that Eight Days was going into full production. The game had not been seen -- or really heard of -- since a debut trailer back at E3 2006. The Getaway was apparently going to be the studio's next project after Eight Days. No word yet what'll happen to those who were working on the title.

You guys do realise it was 100% cgi? They did a good job to make the visuals look closer to gameplay than most CGI videos do - but not a single bit of it was an actual game being played (the animations all link too perfectly into each other, the aiming was much too smooth and perfect even for a mouse, the camera and reactions in the driving section were terribly faked).
In fact I'm pretty sure they didnt get very far into developing it anyway, along with Driver - although at least the tech demo they showed of that was a real engine. Sayign that though, it's impossible that the game would have looked like that in the final game. Just look at GTA IV - even that doesnt have the absolute clarity and perfection of that engine.
They only showed a couple of main areas, which made it extremely easy to pack in billions of polygons and light it all perfectly. Make that into a game, and it would have to be scaled back immensely - especially a free-roaming one.

Eh, whatever about the graphics, it was the gameplay. Did they release something saying it was only CGI? I've seen some impressive scenes from CGI to in-game play on the fly, so that's why it looked interesting to me. I mean if they could keep that going through the whole game.

And here's the problem with gamers these days...
It's a new IP. So, what you do is look at a picture and go "Nope, not interested."
If it's an old IP, well then the decision was made if you like the game or not even before seeing anything. All you need to do is announce the game is being developed.
Is it just bad-taste? Lack of intelligence? "Fanboyism"? What causes people to not think or have a slightest bit of an open mind about things.

I'm pretty sure they didn't say whether it was CG or not but it's plain to see that no real time demo looked that good back in 2006, this trailer has crisp clean lines(no aliasing), smooth animations, and an amount of detail that couldn't be done back in 06', especially when developers were still working out the kinks in the PS3.

Sucks. I really wanted to see what they could do with The Getaway. The Tech Demo of London looked great.

Well, that's two titles we won't see at E3. Curious as to what they have up their sleeve to replace these.

Oh how the Sony fanboys jumped with glee when they saw the graphics for this game in a trailer for the first time. I remember thinking it looked amazing too.
Of course any time I think that the PS3 will do something that will make it a must buy for me, Sony slaps me in the face and takes it away.

I don't think I ever recall anyone using the words 'just wait until..' except fernando for any game.
Usually its more like 'Yeah, but look at this list of upcoming games...now how do you feel jackass?'

You must be joking or picking on Fernando or something on that one. There have been numerous just wait until... lists for PS3. Perhaps not in those exact words I guess, if you wanna nitpick. Comparisons between the 360 and PS3 lineups constantly use upcoming "games" (Quotations refer to Home), and always manage to include everything from blockbuster to niche and indy titles on one side of the fence, while the other side is missing several blockbusters and likely focuses on non-marquis games. 2008 being the year of the PS3, or why I have to buy a PS3, or how amazing it is that the PS3 can bring together so many amazing games in a single year this is amazing I'm so glad with my PS3 purchase are also standard culprits for a just wait until... list in different clothing.

David, if you're going to try trolling, try not being a moron. The "just wait until" lists haven't been seen for at least a year. In fact, it's the other side starting the list wars nowadays. And there is a noticable difference between "Just wait until" and "I cannot wait for."
Fact of the matter is, this arguement hasn't be used in defense of PS3 for a LOOONG time. Not even by some of our more notable trolls like El Serpiente. Frankly? I was looking forward to both of these games so this information is a blow for me. But I haven't seen any fantards even so much as mentioning these titles in at least eight months. In fact, I was the last one who mentioned Eight Days as a "I can't wait until we're shown more of."

So where is the list Sony, where?? Are these Devs going to help the Killzone 2 devs, Resistance 2 devs, GT5 devs?? What long list are you talking about? Was Haze the bench mark for the other games, and now you see the reviews and wonder why Halo is not dead?!?
This article kind of goes along with the other article about exclusives.
I think I am going to go trade in my PS3 for a PS2, at least the PS2 is getting Alone in the Dark. (since I do not have BC that is)
/end angry psycho rant

Would you rather wait till PS3's days are over to get Getaway 3? Lol
Maybe its a good move, now they can concentrate on games that WILL actually exist.

Yeah the first getaway was amazing except for the controls. It was the first "sandbox" game (Kinda not really a sandbox game since all you could do were missions) that really had a decent cover/shooting system that I can remember

Maybe they'll have these people help out with Killzone 2 so that instead of 3 shitty titles, PS3 owners get one surprisingly good sequel.

Funny how PojoMofo dared call me a troll for speculating on the quality of follow-ups to titles that were historically lackluster, then sarcastically compared the significance of first-party PS3 titles to an XBLA title.

If I spot someone acting stupidly or spewing misinformation, I won't hesitate to knock 'em around a bit. Forgive me if that's not your cup o' tea.
If that isn't what concerned you, well...
Perhaps my assumptions regarding Killzone 2 and the now-cancelled Getaway sequel are too strong. Anyone making a final judgment on anything they've yet to play is being unfair, true. However, the prior releases have garnered less-than-stellar reviews, and I'm of the opinion that there hasn't been nearly enough media released for Killzone 2 to suggest that it's much stronger than its predecessor. Hence my knock against the title. If you can find a preview that honestly suggests that it's a substantial improvement over the prior Killzone, please direct me to it.
And have a nice day!

huh? Both The Getaway games, and Killzone and Killzone: Liberation had gathered a lot of hype, not only that, in all of the cases, it was an either completely love the game or completely hate it situation, hence why the scores.
