EA and Crytek have officially announced the development of Crysis Warhead, "a parallel story" to hardware-taxing tropical shooter, Crysis. Built by Crytek's Budapest studio atop an optimized version of the CryEngine 2 technology, Crysis Warhead sees players squeezing into the nanosuit of Sergeant Sykes, affectionately dubbed "Psycho," and learning that "life on the other side of the island is even more intense and explosive than they ever could have imagined." Given all the eyeball-melting events in Crysis, we reckon they're capable of imagining quite a bit.
Crytek president and CEO, Cevat Yerli, found the original game's reception by gamers and the media to be quite pleasing, but noted to the studio's intention to raise the ol' bar. "With Warhead, we are focusing on refining our storytelling and game performance, while also delivering more of the visually stunning graphics and immersive, free-roaming gameplay everyone loved in Crysis," he said. Expect more weapons, more vehicles and more multiplayer content when Crysis Warhead nukes lesser computers this Fall.

Yeah, I guess the company is hell bent on not making money. Sorry, I can't afford a system that plays this game in addition to my console already. I really hope they port this one, I've been really looking forward to playing the original Crysis game.

Isn't this the same dude that JUST proclaimed that his company would never be making a PC exclusive game ever again? I can't blame him for doing it, since they already have the engine and all of the resources (which makes the second game a hell of a lot cheaper to create) but what happened to people sticking with their word?
I think you are right though; A console game would make a hell of a lot more money. This isn't the smartest business move.

Dunno, a 9600GT is sufficent to run Crysis at High with a modest monitor. I built my new computer for $500 and it is more than sufficient for good gaming. Sometimes I think review sites cast an spell making people think they need MONSTER (crap, that's a lawsuit) machines. You'll pay more than a console, but you shouldn't have to put a lien on your soul for a good rig.

Asstard. Thanks - I like that. I'm going to be screaming that at my developers for the rest of the day now.
Back on topic: Crysis's audience was quite limited due to the behemoth system requirements and the piracy issues (not everyone who WANTED the game actually paid for it).
Wouldn't it make (economic) sense to port this bad-boy to as many consoles as possible asap? Maybe THEN make another PC exclusive?

We might see a gimped version appear on the consoles like Far Cry Instincts or Battlefield Modern Combat, but PCs have swept on past the current consoles like they always do and Crysis with all the effects on won't run on a current gen console.

"But tell me: Do the PS3, Wii, 360, PSP, and DS look like ANY of those could run Crysis smoothly without visual problems without being gimped?"
Then again, neither can any PC.
And that's not because of high system requirements, it's because of an extremely shoddy, inefficient game engine.

Burn!
Oh wait... Who the hell bought this game ? I thought everyone just downloaded it through BitTorrent.
I mean, really. I don't know a single PC Gamer that actually buys PC games. They all download them. Just to quote one of them: "Why would I buy the games, I already have to spend on hardware every few months. The games should be free." Thats their logic.
Thats why I don't like PC Gamers. That and the fact that they measure their PC's like if they were comparing their penis.

If your friend spends money on components every few months, he is in no way knowledgeable about PCs, or he has way too much money to spend, which he could use on games.

Aren't these the guys who said they would stop support for Crysis to allocate people to another project? Now, if this is the other project, don't they fear that people will be pissed about support being abandoned after buying Crysis after only 6 months? Shouldn't those people realize it will happen again and avoid the second game?

I wouldn't say I'd avoid the second game because of support fading after 6 months, many AAA games don't even get that much.
However I hope that after Warhead is finished they roll some of that optimised engine back into Crysis, and fix the few bad bugs.

It can, it just needs to be optimized right. Who would've thought that Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 could run on the original X-Box. It's not as pretty as its PC counterpart, yet quite playable from what i understand.

Yes! I am super happy for this :).
I think Psycho is everyone's favorite character from Crysis.
And when you ask him at the end of the game "Where have you been?" and he answers "You wouldn't believe it", I thought the developer was just sissying out, and didn't have a real reason for him to be away. But now I'm happy, that they put more Psycho into the story.
Not to mention that I want more of those amazing battles against koreans.

Nice.
And the obvious bitterness/envy displayed by some people in this thread makes the news even nicer.

Hopefully they come up with some better combat situations. I thought Crysis was most fun tearing through squads of N.Koreans like they didn't know what hit them. Once the game turned into fighting aliens that looked like sentinels from the Matrix, it lost a lot of its fun. Especially that whole level inside the alien complex or that crap having to defend Bishop. Just my opinion though...

Great to see this coming out, I rather enjoyed Crysis and that crazy little mofo Psycho.
Also sorta happy its a PC exclusive, I first started out as a PC gamer but transitioned to consoles obviously because of their lower cost.
Still, PCs have some advantages consoles don't have but they are bridging the gap, such as with DLC and mods which PC games have had forever.

Bizarre.
Is this going to be a free to play game that runs in your web browser that you can pay for extra items and is supported by Coke ads every three feet?

Did no one notice that the crysis engine WILL run on the 360 and PS3, and they are selling it. Don't believe everything they tell you. BTW I will never support a developer who stops working on a patch to produce another game, Thats what EA does, and it's bullshit. If you can make a game preform better via a patch then do it. But they sold out to corp America and want to make more money.
