EA and Crytek have officially announced the development of Crysis Warhead, "a parallel story" to hardware-taxing tropical shooter, Crysis. Built by Crytek's Budapest studio atop an optimized version of the CryEngine 2 technology, Crysis Warhead sees players squeezing into the nanosuit of Sergeant Sykes, affectionately dubbed "Psycho," and learning that "life on the other side of the island is even more intense and explosive than they ever could have imagined." Given all the eyeball-melting events in Crysis, we reckon they're capable of imagining quite a bit.
Crytek president and CEO, Cevat Yerli, found the original game's reception by gamers and the media to be quite pleasing, but noted to the studio's intention to raise the ol' bar. "With Warhead, we are focusing on refining our storytelling and game performance, while also delivering more of the visually stunning graphics and immersive, free-roaming gameplay everyone loved in Crysis," he said. Expect more weapons, more vehicles and more multiplayer content when Crysis Warhead nukes lesser computers this Fall.

Perhaps they will release the patch with the new game? It says it is running on an optimized version of the engine, so maybe when the optimizations are done, they can patch Crysis.

I can't wait to not get this game and have it not run on my comparatively inadequate computer.

Since they got the whole engine done and will probably be re-using a lot of assets (it's the same darn island!), this is a relatively cheap game for them to make. Making it on a console would involve porting the engine and stuff, besides what console gamer would buy a side-story to a game that isn't even on their console?
@people talking about how expensive it is
If you got a computer from scratch, it probably would be over 500$, but I assume y'all already have PC's (or you are posting on Joystiq through your console's web browser), that means you already have a case, a power supply, and hard drives/optical drives. Drop 200$ on a GFX card (8800GT), 200$ on a good processor (I hear one of the intel quad-core processors is priced at 200$), and 50$ on 2GB of RAM. If your mmotherboard supports only outdated standards, drop 150$ on a really nice mobo, or less than 100$ for an acceptable one.
Ta-da! Now you've got a PC that can run Crysis at full settings, at the original price of the PS3 :p

If they are really smart they'll be hyping its ability to run on lower spec hardware as a major point! (don't know if it can, but i heard that crysis actually scaled pretty well).
Imagine how many copies crysis might have sold if 99% of PC owners actually believed they could play it.
Marketting point no1: This game runs on lower spec computers, hey check out these screenshots on a 2ghz, 1gb machine - they look great huh... almost as good as on a high spec machine! Please buy our game this time!

I remember when Crysis came out and the silly arguements about what it would and wouldn't run on, and now its flared up again, well, it runs on my pc, bought christmas 2005, and it runs on the second to highest settings on XP absolutely fine

"Did no one notice that the crysis engine WILL run on the 360 and PS3"
Noone noticed because it's not happened and it's not going to, they have discussed bringing the engine and a version of Crysis to the consoles, but it's going to have to be scaled down madly, redesigned to cut off the huge view distance and lose a lot of detail.
Current consoles can not handle Crysis in it's current form, it is light years ahead of anything we have ever seen before.

you can pick up a cheap rig for about $760.00 which would have a q66 quad processor and an 8800gt graphics card with 4gb of ram this will run it aty medium resolution but i suggest upgrading the mother board to SLI compatability and power supply to at least 700w so that you will when you can afford it drop in another 8800 card this will increase the quality quite significatly and its reasonably cheap setup. OR if you have the cash get the striker 2 formula with two 9800gtx cards.

I run Crysis on a $500.00 rig. 4 gig ram $77.00
250 Gig Drive $55.00 DVD/RW (Left Over)
Case $55.00 after rebate. Power Supply 500watt $15.00 with shipping after rebate. 8800gts $84.00 after rebate.
MB $125.00 AMD 4600 $79.00. Newegg is a great place.
My son plays on a $49.00 MB AMD 4600 combo for $110.00 and a second hand 8600 with 2 gig of leftover ram.
Crysis will play great if you will take medium and an outstanding game.
