EA has confirmed to Eurogamer that production on Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 has halted for the PS3. The publisher gave no explanation for the full-stop and didn't allude to any time when development may start up again.
The Xbox 360 and PC versions of Red Alert 3 will apparently benefit from the refocusing of the PS3 resources and are still expected to launch this fall.

Who cares about C&C. SC2 is going to be the only RTS needed after release. Hurray Mac!

That's to bad, the PS3 version probably would've let you use a mouse and keyboard unlike the 360. Oh well, I was planning on getting it on the PC anyways.

See, that's the thing about games like this coming on PS3... if you can use a keyboard & mouse to play it better, why bother with the PS3? It should be bought on the PC(as intended)since you're 1/3 of the way toward playing it anyhow.
UNREAL TOURNAMENT III wasn't bad on PS3(I like the mouse/keyboard & mod options too)and the controls were surprisingly decent on the controller - If I remember right, there was no SIXAXIS access, but it's not necessary for this. However, it still paled in comparison to the PC version.

Ya, but what about the back and wrist problems you'd surely get from sitting on your couch with a keyboard and mouse playing for hours? The ability to use a keyboard and mouse on a PS3 is diminished by the fact that the PS3 is a media center device built for use on a TV, not a desk like a PC -- though I'm sure some people have it on their desk. But then they're diminishing the BluRay capability. Bottom line? PS3 suffers from identity problems.

I totally agree with you fox, and not only that but on PC you can play at a higher resolution than you can on consoles, which is an advantage in an RTS since you can see more of what's going on at any one time, without losing out on any of the detail.
If only EA would give up on their rip-off digital distribution system and put their support behind steam.

@FOXHOUND,
Yeah, except some people don't like the hassle of hardware/software upgrades, installs, compatibility issues, etc. etc. etc. Sometimes it's a hell of a lot more fun to just sit down, pull the plastic-wrap off your new game, pop it in the drive and play, instead of spend a good chunk of time downloading/installing the latest drivers, tweaking settings, tweaking settings a bit more, and then finally getting to the game.
There's a lot of reasons to hate on the PS3, don't get me wrong; but the fact that they give gamers and option of using a keyboard and mouse isn't one of them. Don't begrudge your fellow gamers their preferred control method just because they're not using it exactly the way you want them to; that's childish.

Its pretty sad when such a giant company can't code for the ps3. The creator of everyday shooter did it alone. It sucks i guess for those interested, but by now EA has so much experience with the ps3, why is thi still happening.

Yea, way to regain your trust with the PS3 community, EA.
Oh, that's right, you're technically console agnostic, but you hire all the execs Microsoft pushes you and put some effort in to 360 games. Despite the PS3 being very profitable for you.
You've gone too far now. Let's see how the shareholders like it.

Oh, and you're forgetting about the Wii. EA LOOOOOOOVES the Wii.

Yea, they hate the Wii even more than the PS3. But they show a surprising amount of love for the 360. And then you have the executive transitions. Coincidence? I don't think anybody believes that.
These are the guys that created the 360. Of course they think its the best console out there. So would I, if I had a large role in establishing a platform. But they shouldn't be in this position. It hinders competition.

1) Peter Moore went to the EX Sports division, which would have nothing to do with C&C: Red Alert 3
2) Corporations are in this game to make as much money as possible. If they thought it was profitable to make this game for the PS3, I'm sure they would.
Take your tin foil hat off - there is no conspiracy.

Hey, now that you mention it, a lot of developers have dropped previously announced PS3 titles. Didn't Sony just cancel Eight Days and The Getaway?
OMG...
They're in on it! Sony is trying to sabotage the PS3!

It's not like the console C&C was even that great anyway. I had it for 360 and played it for about a week, I think. Console RTSs really need to be designed from the ground up, with the console in mind first... rather than PC ports with shoehorned control systems (not that C&C and LOTR weren't adequate, they just weren't optimal.) The "Console First" thinking for RTSs is why I believe EndWar and Halo Wars will actually end up being pretty decent.

So, this is the 2nd day in a row of game cancellations for ps3 (after yesterdays the Getaway news). Do you guys think we have anything to worry about?
Straight up - I bought mine in Nov to play Uncharted (and to get a BC PS3 since my PS2 got ganked a couple of weeks before) and I'm really looking forward to Little Big Planet, BUT...
anything multiplatform I'm buying on 360 for achievements and the fact that most of my friends are online in that community. Aside from Blu-ray movies, I'm not really even turning on my PS3 much at all. I'm not a big fan of cutscenes in gaming, so I'm going to pass on Metal Gear. As soon as Ratchet and Heavenly Sword have a price drop I'll probably pick those up. I'm just not feeling very good about "the future" all of the sudden.

It sounds like you didn't even really want one in the first place. You paid $400 to play Uncharted? That's your own mistake, bubby :p
I use mine to play blu-ray movies from Netflix, a healthy amount of PSN titles, use it as a media center for downloaded HD video, and then regular old disc-games as well. I'm toying with the idea of putting Linux on it for 42" HD web browsing and EVE Online. Sony still does plenty of dumb shit (the 40gb lasers suck, their marketing sucks, Home and XMB delays suck, so on and so on) but all three systems have their own problems. *shrug*
As for being on topic with the story, this is a bit of a bummer. I wasn't excited about this title per se, but I was looking at the PS3 version as a possibility so I could do some mouse/keyboard RTS without having to buy a decent PC-gaming rig. Oh well.

Don't try to play eve on it. While you can install Linux you have no access to the 3d graphics chips so It won't run very well if at all. Until Sony allows us to access the 3d Graphics accelleration through linux its esentially useless for anything more than simple 2d emulation and web surfing.

Who cares. I mean seriously who's going to buy it for a console anyway? I don't recall the previous Red Alerts and C&C's selling a ton on the old PSX. They should have used the resources they are using to make this console conversion to make some other property all together and just leave Red Alert for the PC only.

That's essentially my sentiment: Why would you buy an RTS on a console?
I tried playing Universe at War, and even with it's "console-friendly" control system it was still a chore in comparison to the PC version.

*sigh* I miss Westwood :( You know, before they became crazy and started pumping out nothing *but* Command & Conquer spinoffs, cheapening the brand and ultimately forcing the company to go belly up. Ahh Kyrandia, too bad no one ever bought that franchise up :(

Yeah, I loved that game too. I owned all of their PC games, up until they went batshit crazy when they were bought by EA (the sparkle wasn't there anymore, same thing with Origin).
Anyways, as for the PS3, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA. What a POS Blue Ray player. I hate the machine, not because I support the 360, only because it was so overhyped by Kutaragi and has so far failed in so many ways.

I'm not too impressed with EA games right now... They're actions are increasingly negative towards the PS3. It started with that krappy 30 fps Madden game (which played at a smooth 60 fps on the 360) and, considering the public outcry (and this latest news) over that it seems they haven't put much effort into understanding this console any further... Personally I don't care too much about this game (or many of the tired EA franchises) but am disappointed that such a large developer is seemingly marginalizing an ever growing population of gamers.
I still think the future of the PS3 is sterling, it's just taking longer for the 'magic' to materialize...

EA has stated in the past on each project it just depends on what the elad console is. In the case of Criterion, PS3 owners are getting the better game. In the case of Madden, not so much.
Plus EA has to look at the returns on their PS3 targetted endeavors. Take, for example, Orange Box. While Gabe Newell was kicking and screaming like a child, EA basically farmed the game for dev outside of Valve. Now what happened is pure legend and epic. The PS3 version was shit and sold accordingly. So EA took a look at the months late port with severe problems having sold an abysmally small number and thought "Well, this just means PS3 crowd is not buying games" instead of "This means PS3 crowd is informed of shitty ports and buys comparable products like Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 4 rather than shitty farmed out port projects."
Which is funny because that's how EA suffered on PSP as well. Orange Box may have been a value, but the PS3 version was an insult.

I'd rather play on a PC. I think EA surmised (correctly) that the sales wouldn't be spectacular anyway. This is not so much a condemnation of the PS3 as it is of the state of RTSes on consoles.

xFenixKnightx what are you and 11 year old? You are the reason live sucks nowadays. Damn I hate 360 fanboys...(no problem with the console, just the fanboys. Honestly, they are so defensive and then when something happens iwth another console they flame like hyper 12 year olds, which most of them probably are. None of the other consoles or pc fanboys act like they do.)
Anyways this shouldn't be too bad of a blow to Sony, like everyone is saying, anyone with a brain buys rts games for pc, and they are horrible on consoles. Never owned one for ps3/ps2/ps1, but i played the demo for c&c 3 on 360 and I hated it.
And also EA does like to screw over the ps3, and completely shit on the wii, but i guess with the hardware they gave it nintendo kinda had it coming. They cant pull this stuff though for PS3. It will come back and hit them hard.

On an additional note, although id prefer not to start a flame war, notice how everyone seems to be making constructive comments on the situation, minus the people who's avatars are 360 exclusive characters-who are making immature flame comments.
Also the main point i want to add is that what i said about the wii means these developers are making these good looking advanced games for ps3 and 360, and they dont want to waste resources scaling it down to the wii. Also many of these games tend to be fps games, which dont fare to well on the wii. Screwing both wii and ps3 over will hurt them a lot
