I'm very disappointed by this service when I tried it.

If the client decides that you do not meet the requirements for the game, you are turned away right away and is not allowed to even download and see if the game works on your own.

In my case, I'm denied downloads because the client doesn't detect my processor (AMD 64 X2 6400+) or my operating system (Windows XP x64).

I haven't used it for a few months, but its never done that to me. it showed me a warning list, with the non-compliant parts highlighted in red, but it still always let me play the games.

Email them, or go on the forums. They are (usually) pretty good at responding to issues.

Nope, checked the forums, they had a 24 pages long thread about how Gametap does not support 64-bit OS's.

I think my processor problems might be fixed by perhaps setting affinity to one core only for the client, but since I still won't be able to initiate a download I can't verify this.

Deus Ex is one of the best games ever. Everybody that hasn't had the chance to play it should take advantage of this.

Has Deus Ex been patched to be Windows XP friendly? Or has it always been? I have my old box copy somewhere at my parents place, but I only ever played it on a Win 9x system.

If it is, I may finally do the bootcamp thing and buy XP. Haven't played Deus Ex in years... Or Black & White :(

I've never played Deus Ex on any other OS than Windows XP. Mind you, I'm using the "Game of the Year Edition", but I think the only difference is that "GOTYE" comes prepatche staight from the box.

Its worth signing up for the free version simply for Psychonauts. But I also enjoyed Rogue Trooper, Colin McRae 2005?, Hitman 2 and Commandos 3. (tomb raider legend not so much, but at least it was free).

If you want to catch up on a few slightly older games for free its worth it. (Deus Ex and Thief 3 are great too, but I've already played them. Plus Daikatana!!

I just signed up the other day, and first game I went for was Daikatana :D

It seems like a great service... can't believe it took me this long to try it out. I was just about to go straight for the subscription (so I could try Beyond Good and Evil) before I noticed you can only go for the subsciptions if you live in the US or Canada :(

Does anyone know if Beyond Good and Evil is available on any other digital distribution site?

Beyond Good & Evil is on Steam for $9.99.

Don't know if Steam has strict region restrictions of not, never really used it... But it's there :)

Deus Ex is on my top 10 of all time list (and I've been gaming since 1984). And yeah, nothing like that came out since. Those were the days of Thiefs and System Shocks and small, independent studios pushing the envelope. Today's games are getting more and more shallow, even the highly decorated ones like BioShock don't come close.

I'm playing Vampire: Bloodlines at the moment and it has some similarities. Its not as good as DE, but its pretty cool. It seems to be a love it or hate it game, and it has a few more traditional RPG elements than DE... but it has a kind of similar feel. (maybe just due to being a FPRPG).

I'm playing it with the latest fan-made "plus" patch, which apparently adds a fair bit of extra content, but I never played it without so I can't say what the original was like.

If you don't go in expecting DE you might enjoy it (or hate it ;-) )
