I could care less what the box art looks like...just give me a double bass pedal for Rock Band 2.

Why on earth would they do that? Double bass is useful for specialized music types. The types that aren't the biggest deals on the music scene, or the music video game scene... Yes, I know, disturbed, metallica, blah blah blah.

Other than that, it's kind of a waste.

Look, you shouldnt need it, since nothing was over the top insane where you would need a double pedal, and if you did, well...
Pedal faster doucheturds.

If that's the case, then maybe no more Monkees and Jimmy Buffett DLC, and some real 80s hair band DLC!

The 2nd one has a drummer that looks like he's about 12... actually looks a little like Dewey from "Malcolm in the Middle."

If I have to buy a whole new $180 kit for rock band 2, I'm going to be very unhappy. They better also allow you to play ALL the songs from RB1 including DLC. I can only buy so much horse armor.

Agree. I had better be able to buy the game for $60 and all of my RB1 gear work with RB2. DLC from RB1 had better work with RB2. An option to rip favorite songs off of RB1 to my hard drive for use in RB2 would be nice but not a deal breaker.

agreed. need to be able carry over all music, dl tracks minimum. and equipment should be compatible...please no double foot pedal or whatever like that guy up there wanted. I'd prefer to not have to spend 40+ on new drums.

Not owning Rock Band and completely sucking at music games, I would be VERY VERY disappointed in EA if they decided to not give gamers the option of using old Rock Band tracks or purchased DLC.

Actually, I think they'd be very STUPID to not let you do that. And they'd likely lose a lot of customers.

Definitely the first, but what I really want to know is why is the bassist always a girl? I don't have a problem with this, I'm just curious and happen to be a bassist.

Bass is always presumed (incorrectly) to be the easiest instrument to play, and the one that usually is least noticed (meaning it's ok to put a girl there, the band will still rock, as opposed to the band fronted by a girl or featuring a girl guitarist. They don't rock EVER. But in the interest of fairness, PC BS, etc, women are included.)

And I like the First one better. As a Drummist, when we get a chance to be near the front of the stage/cover art/box art, we take it.

And the second one looks like that weird lookin lead singer from BuckCherry (homeboy with fish-lips) just jumped in for the silhouette shot.

Wouldn't the drummer be on the back of the box in the first one? I might be wrong, and correct me if I am, but I think that the images are a wrap-around meaning that the first image would have the drummer on the back of the box when it was closed.

Also, I dig the second one more. The singer is creepy yes, but I like the white at top, blue at the bottom lighting better. Maybe I’m just racist though.

Am I the only one questioning a need for Rock Band 2? How is it going to entice me, a dedicated Rock Band (1) owner, to shell out for it? Because I'm sure as hell not going to be buying yet more plastic instruments (unless there's one additional instrument, that's sold seprately, such as keyboard).

And I can't help but feel that the stellar work that Harmonix and MTV have done on the DLC front make a sequel even less relevant.

I can (vaguely) understand the business need to compete against the upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour, but wouldn't a healthy price drop achieve for Rock Band 1, or a bunch of free DLC thrown in achieve the same?

I guarantee RB1 will have a price drop around the time GH:WT comes out. As far as the need for RB2 I wouldn't mind having a quieter, wireless drum kit and a wireless mic. But RB1 should be back compat. for those who don't want to upgrade.

There are a lot of things that can be improved upon in the game that may be too much for a "patch" I wouldn't mind having one persistent character that can play all of the instruments. How about a more in depth customization for avatars? Even GH:WT is going to have that. New stadiums? A better solo career that closer in quality to the band world tour mode? Battle of the Bands? They will need to match GH:WT features at some point and make new better ones so why not a sequel?

Also the probability of RB2 coming out holiday '09 is pretty good considering how well the DLC is selling. 2 years between sequels is plenty of time. It's not like Harmonix is trying to force a new disc/bundle on you every couple of months like Activision.

All good points Odog.

You've convinced me - if this was to launch for holiday '09, I could easily see me playing this on the last Christmas day of this decade.

Assuming all my instruments still work by then, of course....

I kind of like the shadowy thing the second one has going, but I feel the flashiness of the top one fits Rock Band better in general.

Rock Band 2 has been confirmed as in development for release in late 2008 by Wired. According to Wired, Harmonix is working on improving the instrument controllers but the current controllers will be forward compatible with Rock Band 2. Wired also stated that the game will likely include similar features announced for Guitar Hero World Tour, set also for release in late 2008.
