I played it for one night at my friend's house for about 10 hours straight. After seeing the addictive power of an MMO I've never touched one since.

Played EQ from 1999-2003. I might check this out just to see where I camped out for the last time. Such memories... It'll never be the same.

Had this come out before AoC i would have been all over it.. but now i dont have enough time to play em both...

I have fond memories of part 1... even though most of the time was waiting (for a teleport, or to buy something, or for SoW, or for a group)

This is a cool promotion, but this would have been much much more popular if it hadn't coincided with the opening weeks of Age of Conan. They both sort of aim for the same nerve ending of the 'realistic' fantasy MMO with good graphics, although AoC hits the 'gritty' note harder.

lol, don't you think that's the point. They are trying to lure people to play EQ instead of AoC.

shadowbane was the best so far...i'm really interested in AoC though. I need to upgrade my pc for it.

I was having a chat with a friend of mine, and i realized that I have not played through a single player game since N64. I haven't beat anything since...I always get bored and go back to multiplayer games. Considering selling my consoles to build a kick-ass rig to play MMO's on.

Joeyg, we're not so different. I barely play console games anymore due to the addiction I have with WoW. And everytime I do play a console game I just don't end up finishing it or getting bored.

Heh... I'm the opposite as you guys. I played WoW for a couple of months after it released, but got out after I realized how much time it was burning up. I'd rather play multiple games than grind away in one.

I remember my good ol' Iksar Necromancer I switched to when Ruins of Kunark came out. I played from the beginning to Omens of War and that was more than enough for me.

Only thing I can take away from that picture is that good guys don't wear shirts.

And bad girls don't wear clothes.

I am afraid you have already been dethroned EQ and to gain those lost players back from WoW would not be possible. Nice try though! :P

Though a cool promotion I must admit for anyone interested.

As soon as I found out about this I reinstalled EQ2 and loaded her up.

I think it's more fun now that it's free. If you haven't played in awhile it's worth looking at again, the new starting areas are awesome and the entire game has changed.

Cool promotion. I'll re-install both clients to see what's been happening.

I doubt I'll be re-subbing though.

There are too many free alternatives that offer meaningless and endless level grinds to make EQ relevant anymore. Plus, the new breed of MMO like AoC and the upcoming Warhammer Age of Reckoning remove any value left in the antiquated EQ model.

Make it free permanently or close up shop. EQ just isn't worth paying for.

Like a crack dealer, as soon as you kick the habit they give you a little taste to lure you back in.

I played from Original EQ up to the expansion after Omens of War. Great memories but I do regret having invested 100 real life days into a fake world. Good thing I sold my accounts when I quit or else I'd probably be back.

This would be innovative, if City of Heroes hadn't been doing that every time a new issue releases.

I've gotta say though, they have been able to get people to sign up again in CoH. Showing off new features for free is a great enticement.
