As if Fallout 3's Collector's Edition wasn't enough to make you frantically type "DO WANT" in our comments section, Bethesda and Amazon have announced an even grander package, the Fallout 3 Survival Edition. In what's essentially the special edition of the collector's edition, Amazon's offer includes all of the latter item's goodies -- a Vault Boy Bobblehead doll, a hardcover book of art and a behind-the-scenes DVD in a Vault-Tec lunch box -- as well as a "life-size" replica of the Pip-Boy 3000, the wrist-mounted contraption worn by in-game apocalypse survivors.
Of course, being a replica, the Pip-Boy 3000 doesn't offer the full functionality enjoyed by those wandering Bethesda's wasteland. This one's just a cool digital clock, we're afraid. It's already available for pre-order on Amazon (but not to Europe, sorry!), with the console and PC versions listed at $129.99 and $119.99, respectively. DO WANT ... ?

Okay, according to a previous Joystiq post (and Gamestop), it's $79.99 for the Console version and $69.99 for PC. So seriously, they slapped an extra $50 onto this package for a freaking alarm clock? If it's even an alarm clock, it might just be a really cheap digital clock.
Rip off. The lunchbox is awesome, this is not.

What Courtney said. If it was a cast steel clock, I'd buy two, but I have enough plastic crap in my house already. Steel or bust.

Bethesda must REALLY want my money. *shrug* I guess they get it then.
Why, why must they tantalize me with my very own Pipboy Lite. I mean, the bobble head and lunch box were enought, but throw in a Pipboy...
Do Want. Do Want Now.
(I hope the survival editon also comes with a voucher for horse armor)

Fucking Hummingbird.....
What I was going to say was, I may not be able to resist owning my own PiPboy, even if it is 50 bucks more and only plastic. I'll pre-order it, and switch to just collectors edition if more details come out as to the shittyness of it before launch

That still wouldn't have made up the price difference, but it would have been awesome. Sadly, my first impulse was buy, buy, buy! Then sanity kicked me in the balls and shoved my head in the manure of reality.

You know manure isn't really that bad of a word...
you have a "newer," which is good. And then you put "ma" in front of it, "ma-newer."

If Fallout was a series that I had some real connection to then I could see myself going all-out for this, but I've never played a Fallout game before, so Bethesda has to earn my trust before I could consider ponying up the cash for this.

A lot of people have a lot of fond memories of past fallout games. Hence the collectors edition.
I would think that a newcomer to any series would not buy a collectors edition. They are specifically made for fans of the series, and its not expected that someone who has never played before should buy one.

I'm chiming in what looks like a consensus. Very cool, but $50 more? That clock better warn me of a nuclear holocaust.

Depending how many were made, it's pretty expensive to create someting like that, even if it is just a clock. You have to hire people to create the design, then a company to make the actual items, and their setup fees for the molding process are the same whether they are making 1,000,000 items or 500.

If by "collector's edition" they meant something that would actually be worth something twenty years from now, then I would buy it, but it really means crap that is worthless and will eventually get lost or thrown away.
I will just buy Fallout 3 "normal edition" plus 2 more games and get my money's worth.

I don't know how much it'll be worth in 20 years though, so you may be right.

looks cool. i would only buy that if the game gets a 9.5 or better. oblivion was too much for me. :( oh and p.s.
the way you incite what the commenters will say "DO WANT", or other things, makes me and perhaps others feel degraded as readers that we are not individuals with our own thoughts and inputs. we are now followers and not insightful ideas to the blog for pre-judging us.
dont make us feel inferior! and i will continue reading your site. Thanks.

If that's the case then the thickness of your skin can be measured in nanometers. And your sensitivity is kicked so high that a butterfly flapping its wings in China hurts your ears.
"Do Want" is a tired Internet meme, but editorializing on a blog is standard stuff. I'm not usually a troll, but what kind of carebear site of enablement do you want?

Do NOT want. I don't need more crap that collects dust in my basement. My wife doesn't allow such things to see the light of day. Not until I get my "man room". Hasn't happened yet.
I'm already getting the Collector's Edition. And I'm more in it for the behind the scenes DVD and collector's book. I'll probably Ebay the rest.

My girlfriend won't let me NOT get the Vault-Tec Lunch box. She played, and replayed, and replayed Fallout 2 getting different endings, and trying to keep Dog Meat alive until the end (Letting your dog get killed = FAIL), which gets increasingly hard when every baddie is a mutant in power armor with a chain gun.
Not sure if she'll dig the $50 clock. This poses a fundamental conflict between her love of all things Vault-related, and her inherent frugality. *grabs popcorn*

$50 seems a tad bit high for a clock. That's more like what I would pay for.. I don't know... Fallout 4 or something.

A $50 clock? I'll just take my regular edition Collector's Edition thank you very much.

yeah, it's a good thing i don't want the clock as i'm already paying a crazy shipping fee to get the regular collectors edition sent to canada. I'm too impatient to have a friend in the states send it up to save me some of the shipping costs. That lunchbox is too cool for me to pass up.
