Amazon offering Fallout 3 'Survival Edition'
As if Fallout 3's Collector's Edition wasn't enough to make you frantically type "DO WANT" in our comments section, Bethesda and Amazon have announced an even grander package, the Fallout 3 Survival Edition. In what's essentially the special edition of the collector's edition, Amazon's offer includes all of the latter item's goodies -- a Vault Boy Bobblehead doll, a hardcover book of art and a behind-the-scenes DVD in a Vault-Tec lunch box -- as well as a "life-size" replica of the Pip-Boy 3000, the wrist-mounted contraption worn by in-game apocalypse survivors.
Of course, being a replica, the Pip-Boy 3000 doesn't offer the full functionality enjoyed by those wandering Bethesda's wasteland. This one's just a cool digital clock, we're afraid. It's already available for pre-order on Amazon (but not to Europe, sorry!), with the console and PC versions listed at $129.99 and $119.99, respectively. DO WANT ... ?

Do want indeed!
Tmoney @ Jun 6th 2008 3:34PM
Apparently a lot of fallout collectors agree with you since they broke amazon....or maybe it was just everyone trying to get MGS4 preorders in...
Amazon down
Tmoney @ Jun 6th 2008 3:35PM
weird didn't make a link...
here it is:

Babel @ Jun 6th 2008 2:22PM
That is so awesome. Especially the lunchbox.
copa @ Jun 6th 2008 2:50PM
After a month or so, they were selling the Halo 3 Legendary Editions with the cat helmet for 50% off in a desperate attempt to get those bulky SKU's out of inventory.
I don't know why that suddenly popped into my head.
Babel @ Jun 6th 2008 4:06PM
But this time the bonus gift actually has practical use beyond suffocating the family pet!
Courtney @ Jun 6th 2008 2:23PM
Ummm...no, do not want, not at that price. What is the price of just the Collector's Edition? Did they slap an extra $40 or $50 on this just for plastic alarm clock?
Courtney @ Jun 6th 2008 2:27PM
Okay, according to a previous Joystiq post (and Gamestop), it's $79.99 for the Console version and $69.99 for PC. So seriously, they slapped an extra $50 onto this package for a freaking alarm clock? If it's even an alarm clock, it might just be a really cheap digital clock.
Rip off. The lunchbox is awesome, this is not.
NATO_Duke @ Jun 6th 2008 3:43PM
My thoughts too. That much for a clock? Wayyyyyy too much to me.
Sebenius @ Jun 6th 2008 2:26PM
What Courtney said. If it was a cast steel clock, I'd buy two, but I have enough plastic crap in my house already. Steel or bust.
Thranx @ Jun 6th 2008 2:27PM
Bethesda must REALLY want my money. *shrug* I guess they get it then.
Why, why must they tantalize me with my very own Pipboy Lite. I mean, the bobble head and lunch box were enought, but throw in a Pipboy...
Do Want. Do Want Now.
(I hope the survival editon also comes with a voucher for horse armor)
Hot$auce_Magik @ Jun 6th 2008 3:03PM
Fucking Hummingbird.....
What I was going to say was, I may not be able to resist owning my own PiPboy, even if it is 50 bucks more and only plastic. I'll pre-order it, and switch to just collectors edition if more details come out as to the shittyness of it before launch
benjor0x0r @ Jun 6th 2008 2:27PM
I second Sebenius
Glitch W @ Jun 6th 2008 2:30PM
It would have been a definite buy if it was a little more than the regular collectors addition, but this is like the legendary edition of halo. I think I may wait to see if the price plunges like it did for the legendary halo 3.
Hot$auce_Magik @ Jun 6th 2008 3:11PM
Edition.

but the price...
Microswirl (MKWii:1676- 4270-3674) @ Jun 6th 2008 2:31PM
I hope that's an atomic clock!
borland502 (SDF - Macross Ring) @ Jun 6th 2008 2:47PM
That still wouldn't have made up the price difference, but it would have been awesome. Sadly, my first impulse was buy, buy, buy! Then sanity kicked me in the balls and shoved my head in the manure of reality.
exit stencil @ Jul 9th 2008 9:03PM
You know manure isn't really that bad of a word...
you have a "newer," which is good. And then you put "ma" in front of it, "ma-newer."
Reuben @ Jun 6th 2008 2:33PM
If Fallout was a series that I had some real connection to then I could see myself going all-out for this, but I've never played a Fallout game before, so Bethesda has to earn my trust before I could consider ponying up the cash for this.
Hot$auce_Magik @ Jun 6th 2008 3:10PM
A lot of people have a lot of fond memories of past fallout games. Hence the collectors edition.
I would think that a newcomer to any series would not buy a collectors edition. They are specifically made for fans of the series, and its not expected that someone who has never played before should buy one.
K387 @ Jun 6th 2008 2:34PM
I'm chiming in what looks like a consensus. Very cool, but $50 more? That clock better warn me of a nuclear holocaust.

baby sea tuna @ Jun 6th 2008 2:37PM
Holy crap!
josh @ Jun 6th 2008 2:42PM
Depending how many were made, it's pretty expensive to create someting like that, even if it is just a clock. You have to hire people to create the design, then a company to make the actual items, and their setup fees for the molding process are the same whether they are making 1,000,000 items or 500.
kagai @ Jun 6th 2008 2:42PM
If by "collector's edition" they meant something that would actually be worth something twenty years from now, then I would buy it, but it really means crap that is worthless and will eventually get lost or thrown away.
I will just buy Fallout 3 "normal edition" plus 2 more games and get my money's worth.
baby sea tuna @ Jun 6th 2008 3:11PM
You mean, like this?
http://search-completed.ebay.com/search/search.dll?GetResult&dfsp=32&sofocus=so&sabfmts=1&saprclo=&coentrypage=search&saprchi=&ftrv=1&fis=2&ftrt=1&fsop=32%26fsoo%3D2&fpos=21207&copagenum=1&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&from=R40&satitle=big+daddy+figure+bioshock&sbrftog=1&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&coaction=compare&sadis=200&guest=1
I don't know how much it'll be worth in 20 years though, so you may be right.
lee @ Jun 6th 2008 2:43PM
looks cool. i would only buy that if the game gets a 9.5 or better. oblivion was too much for me. :( oh and p.s.
the way you incite what the commenters will say "DO WANT", or other things, makes me and perhaps others feel degraded as readers that we are not individuals with our own thoughts and inputs. we are now followers and not insightful ideas to the blog for pre-judging us.
dont make us feel inferior! and i will continue reading your site. Thanks.
borland502 (SDF - Macross Ring) @ Jun 6th 2008 2:52PM
"...makes me and perhaps others feel degraded as readers that we are not individuals with our own thoughts and inputs"
If that's the case then the thickness of your skin can be measured in nanometers. And your sensitivity is kicked so high that a butterfly flapping its wings in China hurts your ears.
"Do Want" is a tired Internet meme, but editorializing on a blog is standard stuff. I'm not usually a troll, but what kind of carebear site of enablement do you want?
Hot$auce_Magik @ Jun 6th 2008 3:06PM
::Hopes your soap box crumples under your likely immense girth::
Lorem @ Jun 6th 2008 2:48PM
too much
Misfit Toy @ Jun 6th 2008 2:57PM
agreed
Misfit Toy @ Jun 6th 2008 2:56PM
Do NOT want. I don't need more crap that collects dust in my basement. My wife doesn't allow such things to see the light of day. Not until I get my "man room". Hasn't happened yet.
I'm already getting the Collector's Edition. And I'm more in it for the behind the scenes DVD and collector's book. I'll probably Ebay the rest.
Jaycube64 @ Jun 6th 2008 3:04PM
Extra goodies cost money to produce. They're not going to give them to you for free, they're going to charge a premium to those willing to pay.
bobartig @ Jun 6th 2008 3:05PM
My girlfriend won't let me NOT get the Vault-Tec Lunch box. She played, and replayed, and replayed Fallout 2 getting different endings, and trying to keep Dog Meat alive until the end (Letting your dog get killed = FAIL), which gets increasingly hard when every baddie is a mutant in power armor with a chain gun.
Not sure if she'll dig the $50 clock. This poses a fundamental conflict between her love of all things Vault-related, and her inherent frugality. *grabs popcorn*
Abhinav Kumar @ Jun 6th 2008 3:05PM
Too expensive... Do want but that is just too much for some extra swag. I might just preorder in case it becomes rare and cancel before hand if i don't have the money.
LaughingTarget @ Jun 6th 2008 3:11PM
It's freaking cool, but not $60 more than the regular collector's edition cool.
Misfit Toy @ Jun 6th 2008 3:36PM
Hidden 'Horse Armor' tax included in price.
Anam @ Jun 6th 2008 4:08PM
$50 seems a tad bit high for a clock. That's more like what I would pay for.. I don't know... Fallout 4 or something.
soulpopped @ Jun 6th 2008 4:08PM
A $50 clock? I'll just take my regular edition Collector's Edition thank you very much.
Viridium @ Jun 6th 2008 4:21PM
Not in Europe... or apparently Canada either, WTF! Sorry, I'm a consumer whore and I DO WANT!
Saad77 @ Jun 6th 2008 7:59PM
yeah, it's a good thing i don't want the clock as i'm already paying a crazy shipping fee to get the regular collectors edition sent to canada. I'm too impatient to have a friend in the states send it up to save me some of the shipping costs. That lunchbox is too cool for me to pass up.
arkweld @ Jun 6th 2008 7:43PM
Pointless tat!
Want.
I am a Fallout whore.
SapphicAlure @ Jun 6th 2008 9:19PM
Aww it looks so coot >
Sesur @ Jun 6th 2008 9:36PM
do want, but won't pay.... it's just way too much for that awesomely sweet PIP clock.... but I still want it damn it.
greatslack @ Jun 7th 2008 2:17PM
Wow...I NEED ONE!!!
