Make friends with 'Wii Friend Number' Facebook app
Forget about complicated telephone mnemonic devices to help you remember your sixteen-digit Wii friend code. Heck, forget about Joystiq's own lists of reader friend codes. As is often the case, where Nintendo hasn't offered a suitable solution for online gaming, gamers make their own and Sam Lu's Wii Friend Number app on Facebook is as good a solution as we've seen.
You already use Facebook to keep in touch with your pals, so rolling your console number as well as your game specific numbers (ugh) into your profile is smart thinking. Matchmaking you with your pals that have the same games, that's even smarter. Add the app and let us know if you agree in the comments.

Where can I find this `Joystiq's own list of reader friend codes` you speak of?

In before the FBI starts sending everyone Wii messages inviting them to get arrested. I mean, they have all your other information on Facebook, why not give them your Wii info as well?

Thank you.
Kye - Ludwig Defence Force @ Jun 6th 2008 5:50AM
And is there a way you can see whose registered you?
'Cause you know, if you don't do it both ways then it ain't worth jack.
aMac @ Jun 6th 2008 6:52AM
Right, just giving out your number isn't going to do much, but I think the idea is one you've added this app, you can see the friend codes of any other friends who've also added the app in one handy list.

My mistake, the above comment was meant to be a reply to my first comment.
I was referring to Joystiqs list, not facebooks.
Christopher Grant @ Jun 6th 2008 1:06PM
Yeah, doesn't work on our lists (which is why this Facebook app is so smart!)
Chase @ Jun 6th 2008 6:06AM
Kudos to the application creator for allowing Nintendo gamers a basic function, a friends list, that Nintendo seems to think is not worth the effort.
velocitySTRIKE @ Jun 6th 2008 6:44AM
By all means, they just don't want your kids (because, you know, we're all parents) to be upset online with the voice chat system. I mean, er, with the preset communication that has insults inclu..I mean, with the.
I have nothing.

Friend codes make me feel like a Mars bar.
I am not a number: I'm Spartacus!

Today is friday. So, I can probably get a race in at around 2 when I come back from night time silliness, but don't bet on it.
Don't you play on sunday? That's a better day for me. I'm an expert at Mario Kart, nobody can beat me. Ghost Valley FTW!!!
Kye - M-Kart Wii 0817-4620-2062 @ Jun 6th 2008 9:47AM

Pretty sad that such a thing is needed. Oh well, I sold mine anyway so it's whatev'
baby sea tuna @ Jun 6th 2008 8:20AM
Friend codes and Facebook huh? Those are two things I'm no longer interested in dealing with.
jbc @ Jun 6th 2008 10:53AM
What makes this app so special? There are at least 5 Facebook apps that feature the same functionality; I've tried a number of them and finally settled on the "Nintendo Network" app. It seemed to see the most development, whereas the others only saw attention once in a blue moon. I'd really like to know what's so great about this one that it got Joystiq's endorsement.

BEST.... FACEBOOK.... APP... EVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR

Friend codes = ugh. Game-specific friend codes = Fuck it. Gave my Wii to neices and nephews a long while ago. They only play local multiplayer.
DWells55 @ Jun 6th 2008 2:22PM
Just out of curiosity, are you using Safari or Firefox with the iFox skin?
RobLink (Return of the McElroy Defence Force) @ Jun 6th 2008 2:57PM
Chris, I joined this as soon as I saw the notification that you had added it. I've added you on my Wii, but have yet to put my game-specific friend codes on there.
