Who the hell are all these terrible bands? Oh wait...MTV picked them. Explains everything.
brad77 @ Jun 6th 2008 6:45PM
"Girls Who Play Guitars" wouldn't be my first choice, but I'll downloading it. Give a listen to "A Certain Trigger" before shitting all over them. It's a pretty good album.

It may not be right up your alley, but it ain't bad.
Ah, but whatever. Snarky comments are more fun.

Thank you for finally answering the question, Joystiq crowds...
What's worse than a music snob? A music snob about a music VIDEO GAME.
Seriously, do half or you people just actively seek out new and exciting ways to fail at life? "The only good music is unsigned music... in my licensed music video game..... somehow, ah fuck you people, I only listen to college radio and what my iTunes suggests like all the cool people I know in Starbucks."
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 6th 2008 6:58PM
I'm quite the opposite fid. Unsigned bands get 0 attention from me, it's just that well..we all know the kind of shit garbage that gets played on MTV nowadays and that's why I said what I said.
If you wanna call me anything call me an "old" 21 year old cause I think most modern music (rock and rap) sucks, and nothing from those videos did anything to convince me I'm wrong.
bnpederson @ Jun 6th 2008 9:27PM
I'll just chalk it up to you being a "pretentious" 21 year old instead.
Lewis (GT: StoneRevolver) @ Jun 6th 2008 5:22PM
No, They were in a contest, voted by the public.
http://dewcircuitbreakout.mtv2.com/
3 of them are top 3 winners so I guess MTV2 gave them a spot on the game for their sake.
It's not like MTV chose these bands, they kind of beat out thousands of others.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 6th 2008 5:27PM
That's even worse!! If there's anything possible of being worse at picking music things or movie awards than MTV it's the people who watch MTV (see this year's movie awards winners as examples)
NoHitHair @ Jun 6th 2008 5:34PM
I am going to have to agree. Democracy is bad enough but specifying votes from the MTV crowd?
That's just sick.
Lewis (GT: StoneRevolver) @ Jun 6th 2008 5:37PM
like i tried to say, MTV didn't pick them, their fans did. The artists entered themselves into the contest. MTV2 is just the host.
As much as MTV/MTV2 sucks, I think this was a slightly fair contest, despite the fact that they let already signed bands enter the contract. :/
Lewis (GT: StoneRevolver) @ Jun 6th 2008 5:38PM
*Correction:
Enter the contest
Squirtforce @ Jun 6th 2008 5:29PM
The only thing more tired than MTV is people bitching about MTV. MORE LIKE empTV!!!!! AM I RIGHT!?!?!?!?
Naota @ Jun 6th 2008 5:34PM
telivision blows
Mischa @ Jun 6th 2008 5:35PM
WTF. I thought Harmonix partnering with MTV meant we're going to get LESS obscure bands, and not more. The Rock Band DLC has been horribly disappointing lately.
Charron @ Jun 6th 2008 6:15PM
Unknown songs are fine so long as they are cheap and/or great. Maximo Park is pretty known in UK, and sound pretty good (don't know about how fun they'll be though), but the other three, not really as solid in my opinion.
Problem with gunning for obscurity is there's just way too much of it, so pleasing obscure music fans is going to be quite hard. I could probably do a whole setlist of obscure songs and someone else into obscure/indie stuff might not have heard of anything I pick.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ Jun 6th 2008 7:00PM
As much as I want to complain, this week, I got Disturbed tracks for $1. And they were actually pretty good tracks. These, I may give a shot. Considering this is a weekly release of $1 singles, I'd be hard pressed to find a "ripoff" in that.
Mischa @ Jun 7th 2008 8:20AM
I certainly believe the more music the better, I just think it's a bit ironic that Rock Band, the game that's teamed up with MTV isn't throwing out more popular music.
Also, I haven't heard of any of these bands, and it's great that obscure music is put on here, but I don't care about the Cars, I don't care for Disturbed, and I certainly don't care for Judas Priest.
I know opinion of music is purely subjective, even more so than games, but in my opinion, the tracks that they've released lately has been tremendously disappointing.
Actually, I take that back, it's an objective fact that Jimmy Buffet is terrible.
Bellerophon @ Jun 6th 2008 5:55PM
Well at least they're cheap.
Matthew Aaron @ Jun 6th 2008 6:00PM
I like the fact that I can get introduced to new bands this way. Sure I would love to rock out to more Who (Who wouldn't - ha ha), but I know that I already love that band. I really dug The Sounds (a DLC band from around the holidays) and I like the groove of the Maximo Park song from this set. Also The Materials have some decent potential (and my fiancee wants more female vocalist songs in game). I like seeing new stuff in addition to classics and bands that are currently popular.
Kronen @ Jun 6th 2008 6:10PM
Maximo Park are a very popular band in (and from) the UK!
Alexxxxx @ Jun 6th 2008 6:20PM
hmm... after doing my research instead of just shitting on them right away... hmm?
I like well...\
all of them..
oh and FYI The Myriads and Maximo park are really popular, and not obscure
TC81190 @ Jun 6th 2008 6:20PM
Maximo Park is a great band, but if they were looking to pick superior indie bands, they kind of failed.
Having said that, seeing all the bitching here is kind of making me laugh. Way to dismiss a band before you've even heard it. Let me ask you this; who would you RATHER be next week's DLC?
LeadBoxx @ Jun 6th 2008 6:23PM
I wish some Flaming Lips would come to Rock Band!
Abhinav Kumar @ Jun 6th 2008 6:34PM
All four videos are "no longer available"
brad77 @ Jun 6th 2008 6:38PM
Refresh the page.
ChooChooCharlie (MK 0430-8740-2222) @ Jun 6th 2008 6:48PM
I really like that The Myriad song, the others are OK I guess. Damn, though, the sound quality on that 3rd vid is awful.
Ninegauger @ Jun 6th 2008 6:57PM
It's funny because the first time I saw both The Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeah was on MTV (the regular MTV as hard as that is to believe) and they're on the main Rock Band set list.
You might not even like those two bands but there are many players of Rock Band who do. So maybe MTV isn't such a terrible place to pick music from.
I mean, I hate MTV as much as the next guy, don't get me wrong but this isn't a crazy or manifestly bad idea.
matahtak @ Jun 6th 2008 7:06PM
"Come to the front and rock out with us!"
*Everyone standing still*
That summarizes this Rock Band DLC.
Dan @ Jun 6th 2008 7:38PM
I already knew The Myriad, and that new single of them, I like it.
ShadzKing @ Jun 6th 2008 10:43PM
For the love of God, Harmonix cmon! This is beyond annoying for all the fans. We want to play our favorite classic songs from the past and present. Not these freaking random bands. Barely anyone of us know these bands. GH has been catching up with a lot of good songs and this is what we get now? They need to shape up and getting better and well known bands otherwise everyone is gonna flock back to GH with their World Tour coming out.
P.S Rammstein anyone? xD
/rant
Blue_Falcon @ Jun 6th 2008 10:50PM
Maximo Park?
I'd love to have the Mark Ronson version of MP's "Apply Some Pressure." I was just listening to it.
I'm not sure how appropriate it would be for a game like Rock Band, but why not.
Slippage @ Jun 7th 2008 12:48PM
Much better version of Bullets & Guns @ http://www.myspace.com/themterribles
Soapyshoes @ Jun 7th 2008 12:50PM
Jesus Christ, stop complaining. Need I remind all of you that Rock Band is the only game on XBox Live that continuously updates week to week? Everyone should be applauding Harmonix just for doing that! No other game has constantly updated content like Rock Band. Not even Guitar Hero 3.
Sam Earl @ Jun 7th 2008 1:05PM
Personally, I had been wishing for some Maximo Park. One of my first thoughts when I got the game was how much more diverse music you could add as opposed to Guitar Hero. I would never want MP in a GH game, but in Rock Band...why the hell not!
macgyver @ Jun 9th 2008 12:39PM
did anyone watch the whole video to Clean Shot? i'd buy the track just to encourage them to make more weird story-telling music videos like that.
ToRo @ Jun 9th 2008 11:33AM
I listened to all those songs and i didn't catch a single guitar solo. I think "Bullets & and guns" had something that wanted to be a guitar guitar solo but failed horribly. Now, you don't have to have a guitar solo to be good band, but if your guitarists sucks at least make the rest of your band sound good!
RavenPaul @ Jun 11th 2008 6:36PM
Why would I spend my hard-earned money on this crap? I play the guitar AND sing on rock Band, so I'm not buying anything I don't already know. These should be offered for free!
Jenny @ Jun 11th 2008 11:17PM
Just got the song from The Material called "Moving to Seattle"...it is AWESOME! You guys should give it a chance. I loved it so much I just got their EP off iTUNES. That girl has a great voice.
