The latest "please get excited to buy us" trailer for Saints Row 2 takes some playful potshots at Grand Theft Auto IV. The video, which we've placed after the break, asks us if we'd like to do mundane tasks like bowling in GTA IV or more over-the-top things in Saints Row 2, like shooting sewage at pedestrians?
The trailer is a tiny bit awkward, acting as if THQ's game will be available right after players are done with GTA IV. We really don't know how long they expect us to be playing GTA IV, but considering Saints Row 2 doesn't come out until October, chances are we'll be done with it sooner than they anticipate.
GTA used to be a huge satire of society, and just a giant, violent, flaming joke on things. GTAIV feels more like it is trying to clean up its act and tries to be taken seriously. Much like a later SNL as opposed to the original cast.
Saint's row is now trying to be the more satirical, over the top insanity that I am so sorely lacking in GTA. I loved raising hell in a tank in the other GTAs, now it is in "serious mode" and well, there aren't tanks in cities in serious mode. SR2 seems to try to bring that back, which I DO WANT.
I'll have to wait for some cut scenes to leak/be released to make up my mind. It looks fun, but if this game is over the top "ghetto" nonsense like the first one, then i won't touch it. That was the exact reason i disliked San Andreas despite all of the improvements it had upon the GTA series (biggest world, customizable character, planes, etc.)
Well, that and the gaining weight, building muscle bullshit. The only reason I survived through the story was the max muscle/no fat cheat (and the two amazing rock stations)
