For those who missed out on the original Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War series (which is three games -- four, if you count Soulstorm), it still holds up well and can be found in a boxed Platinum Set, and on Steam, for around $30. For the sake of DoW II's sales, we hope Starcraft II isn't released anywhere close to the same time.
Glimpse some Dawn of War II gameplay footage

I don't know what was cooler; the gameplay or the announcer at the end.

a complete revision of Dawn of War.........as soon as i heard about this in April, i said "HOLY !@#$, OMG FINALLY!!!!"
with the teaser gameplay, it is very similar to COH's, which i dont own but played the demo. I think Relic is gonna redefine the RTS genre with Dawn of War 2 with all that looting stuff.

The screens released a while back scored a big fat "meh" from me, but in motion it's looking pretty nice!

I'm a huge huge fan of this game series. I honestly believe that its the best strategy game ever made besides the Starcraft games. I actually dont know if i am looking forward to DOW2 more than Starcraft 2, it's too close to call. At least now we'll get the 'Nids. I always used nids in the table-top and i was dissapointed the previous game engine wouldnt allow them to show the nids in thier full glory. Nevertheless, they owe us Nids, so i wanna see them in the first game.

:(... Fear of the expansions denied me of my faith there would be a second coming of the forces of the god emperor. Please give this unworthy Tech priest another chance oh beneficent one. It looks amazing, i just hope the machine spirit will bless my rig to run it smoothly. I just wonder how much longer will have have to wait to stand with my brothers again.

"it still holds up well"
They still haven't released a patch to a game-breaking exploit available since the launch of Soulstorm (i.e., months ago).
One of the two new races can get infinite resources fairly easy right at the beginning of the game. This has destroyed ladder play, obviously, since every time you run into an exploiter you lose. It's also made no one want to play with that race in casual play, either-- but hey, it's only one of the two new races. (The other has a fairly major bug as well....)
So, hey, if you don't like support with your RTS, it's holding up fine. :P

With the Soulstorm dev (Iron Lore) killed off immediately after the expansion pack's release, any prospects of a patch seem pretty slim. :-/

I'm more excited about this than SCII. I other then new units and better graphics, nothing is really changing there. It's like an expansion pack or booster shot really.

First one was brilliant, had some great times playing it online with friends. Never got around to getting the final expansion pack but I might just get it and give it a whirl.
Fingers crossed that Relic somehow manage to do another Homeworld game.

I just played homeworld for the first time last month. Awesome game. Frankly, I've never been into RTS since Warcraft 2 (constantly rebuilding the same base and basic units every mission bores me), but 90% of homeworld rocked.
Been meaning to check out DoW for a while.. but right now i'm keeping my eye out for a cheap homeworld2.

Homeworld 2 is IMO a lot better than the first one, so if you liked that you're in for a treat. Company of Heroes by the same company is also awesome.

Meh, I don't know, tryed playing the original DoW, but it was just too easy and repetative.
Story on par with Cartoon Network cartoon didn't help either.

matt, that's not the game breaking bug. The REAL game breaking bug is that automatch will match you with ANYONE, not just people +/-200 your own rank.
Also, I've seen countless replays of glitch abusers losing. Fact is, the glitch distracts you from key micro and macro management, and in the long run you'll never win a game among upper/higher ranked players.
