Soul Calibur IV gameplay video dump
In addition to yesterday's cinematic trailer, which gave us a fantastic look at the game's three combatants from a galaxy far, far away, a plethora of gameplay videos for Soul Calibur IV also recently made their way into GameTrailer's expansive archives. Other than the addition of a few new characters and a graphical overhaul, it's tough to pick out any changes that Namco Bandai has incorporated into their armament-rich fighting franchise -- we suppose the Soul Calibur series has adopted the official mantra of the fighting genre: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The above preview and those embedded after the jump certainly don't look broken, and have imbued in us an insatiable hunger for well-timed counters, guard impacts, and incredibly overdramatic dialogue.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
More like "If you don't want the fan base bitching, don't fix it."
I love fighting games and all but goddamn. Some fans...

And here I thought it was just a game with boobs and star wars...
I haven't followed SC for a while, but I might jump back in with this iteration. Has there been any news on why I would get the 360 version over the PS3 one (other than Live?)
Tatticus @ Jun 7th 2008 3:24PM
Vader's on the ps3 version, yoda's on the 360 version
SoulBlade @ Jun 7th 2008 8:11PM
That is seriously lame.

"three combatants from a galaxy far, far away"
Isn't it just Darth Vader and Yoda?
Naota @ Jun 7th 2008 2:54PM
apprentice is the one you've forgotten
izzy @ Jun 7th 2008 2:56PM
Vader's apprentice, who is the main character from The Force Unleashed, is also in the game.
kataztrophy @ Jun 7th 2008 3:04PM
If you don't want to get more fighting game fans interested, don't fix your overrated, weapons based game.
Jin @ Jun 7th 2008 3:09PM
I think anyone who's anticipating this game should really watch yesterday's 1up show preview. It addresses the changes being made to the game which I found quite eye opening.
Maverick Saturn @ Jun 7th 2008 3:29PM
Worship the Calibur :)

It looks fantastic, I just hope they kept the ability to switch over to the Japanese dialog. It just does not have the same feel when they are spouting off in English.
doom saber @ Jun 7th 2008 5:06PM
So true. I always play SC in Japanese just because the acting is so much better. I mean the english voice of Ivy sounds like a freakin old woman in SC3. I remember some kids (who happens NOT to work at the place) hanging out the metron were pretty pissed at me when I playing SC3 in japanese rather than english. LOL
Sure, I don't understand japanese, but the english dialogue in SC isn't as good as Kingdom Hearts or Metal Gear.

I hope they also include jedi and sith souls into the create a character mode. How cool would that be! Anyways Hilde is seriously giving Talim a run for her money as my new favorite SC girl.
silverfox @ Jun 7th 2008 5:18PM
for me, its not msg4, kz2, or ff13. For me this is the excuse to finally jump the fence and buy a ps3. I just love fighting games and ever since playing the first one on DC, this series has been one of my fav's. Can't wait to play online.

Buy a 360, yoda ftw. Plus, I just see the list of games on 360 and immediately know why I bought it.
ChooChooCharlie (MK 0430-8740-2222) @ Jun 7th 2008 8:26PM
That looks friggen beautiful.
I really hope Hilde isn't supposed to replace my boy Kilik. I mean, she looks like she might be an interesting fighter with both a short and long range weapon, but I needs my Kali-Yuga.
Kizzle @ Jun 7th 2008 10:27PM
...this looks like Soul Calibur II, which was like Soul Calibur, which was like Soul Edge with prettier graphics.
Love the games, but how many times do they expect me to buy the same thing? This thing looks like it has fewer changes than a Madden game for christsake.
Darcrequiem @ Jun 7th 2008 11:27PM
I could have agreed with you if you left Soul Edge out of it. Soul Calibur plays much differently than Soul Edge.
izzy @ Jun 8th 2008 3:09AM
Online
CJLopez @ Jun 8th 2008 4:55PM
New characthers
Better mamarian physics (We know 70% of the money put it on the game goes here)
New designes
David @ Jun 8th 2008 1:18PM
Wow, they made Mitsurugi terrible. Fix that before shipping the game, Namco!
ihateemo @ Jun 8th 2008 2:03PM
Bleh, why is it that GameTrailers videos always keep freezing on me? The video's loaded it just keeps locking up. :(
sniping_dreamer @ Jun 8th 2008 4:46PM
Looking really fantastic so far. To those who were worried about having no Yoda in their PS3's, I read in Game Informer that they are available DLC sometime after. Kinda lame, but oh the things we buy for our video games.
CJLopez @ Jun 8th 2008 4:57PM
I heard only the special editions of the game will have DLC.
I'm not much into special editions of games, but having DLC is worth it
DancinGolem @ Jun 10th 2008 10:34PM
Is it just me, or is there an annoying high pitched metal clash sound that just overpowers every other sound on almost every hit, like it's to signify armor damage or something.
Really noticable on the "High Impact" video, espcially on the last fight.
