Don't misinterpret that headline -- the much anticipated update for Valve's cartoony multiplayer run-and-gunner, Team Fortress 2, will not see the dismissal of the game's most burninating class. No, we simply mean that Valve has revealed one of the unlockable weapons for the Pyro: the mighty Axtinguisher. Well, the sometimes mighty Axtinguisher -- Valve explained in a recent Steam blog post that the weapon only deals half as much damage as the standard fire axe, unless used against engulfed opponents, in which case it deals a guaranteed critical hit.
We've yet to learn the achievements required to unlock this powerful armament, or the other equipment that will be made available to the flame-obsessed archetype -- though in the same news post, Valve confirmed the Pyro-centric update will be accompanied by one of their popular video introductions for the most steady-handed TF2 character, titled "Meet The Sniper". Also, Valve confirmed that they've "almost completely wrapped up" the update. Arsonists, rejoice!

Well I imagine you'll be able to disguise as a pyro... since if it's anything like the medic update most of the people suddenly playing the class won't be good at it, it'll be easy to take 'em out. If only the spy update came at the same time, since I bet one of the achievements for the spy will be 'back stab 'x' number of pyros'.

Team Roomba's gonna have fun harassing snipers in their team with Pyros once this update lands. Hehehe.

Right Gen. I'm dreading the Sniper update. Like useless people needed a reason to play that class as it is? I'm not dissing good snipers, just the %99.99999 of them that are shit.

This will become the background music once you've got the 11 vs 11 pyros: http://youtube.com/watch?v=nNu-8e4Z6YY
That's assuming at least three per team are somewhat competant, obviously..

So they're going to start working on it soon. That's good, we're getting somewhere.

Man, about frigging time. Whenever I play Pyro I do disgustingly poorly in terms of points, even when I know I'm at the top of my game.
Conversely, when I play as medic I'm guaranteed first place of my time.

NO! BAD JEFF! I hate people that look that their score all of the time. I want to WIN, so I have little problem throwing myself at the goal if it means winning for the team.
People that hold back just to maintain their kill/death ratio that no one but themselves gives a shit about, drive me nuts!
(so I'm not a huge fan of camping snipers and sentry whores on attacking teams)

I guess there's something to be said for being suicidally aggressive. I'm routinely near the top of the score board for my team, if not the whole server. Why? Because as a pyro I know I'm not exactly a killing class. Sure he's listed as offense, but what is his real purpose? To cause mayhem! I will run in, set everything on fire, send everyone into a panic, and then typically get killed. I almost never have a K/D ratio over 1, and more often than not the only way I return to base is in little bits and pieces. Do I care? Not particularly. If I'm confusing the enemy, I'm creating openings for the rest of my team to come in and raid the place.

Yes, yes, yes God yes! Finally, another "Meet the" video, and with one of my favorite classes! It's about damn time Valve gave some fame to the support classes of the game.
I'm also excited about this new Pyro update too, the axetinguisher sounds nice, but I'm wondering how's the flamethrower going to be updated.
I can't wait for these two things to come!

One thing I managed to notice after the first medic update was that disguising as a medic works a lot more now even if there aren't that many medics on the enemy team. Apparently people just expect to see a lot of medics and in a group of enemies...you'll blend right in.

It is poor journalism but it's what we've grown to accept.
And why the hell would you say "Pyro gets the axe"? He/She's always had an axe. Press 3 on the keyboard when you're a pyro to bring it up.
