Wii Spray transforms Wii-mote into grafitti spraycan
We know what you're thinking, and this isn't it. Rather than being an awesome Jet Set Radio-style game where the Wii Remote functions as a spraycan, this is actually an equally awesome art project. A student at Bauhaus University in Germany modded a Wii-mote, putting the waggle-happy components in a spraycan for an interactive graffiti project.
According to SlashGear (because we don't speak German), the Wii Spray device allows users to virtually spray-paint walls -- presumably using some kind of sorcery. Neato, but we'd still like Jet Set Wii-dio, please (and we even figured out a name for it!).

Interesting enough, this wii-mote spray can has a triangle and square button.
it doesnt even have anything resembling a wiimote, perhaps only the white color heh.
Dr Handsome @ Jun 7th 2008 11:10PM
If I am reading this correctly, the innards of a Wii-mote were used as the motion sensors inside the virtual spray can. Though it is a bit strange that they wouldn't just use the 1 and 2 buttons, the whole Wii-spray name makes enough sense.

Actually According to this pic-

-the Wiimote is housed inside it. Which is good cause I don't want to buy a modded Wiimote to play JSR Wii.
Psaakyrn @ Jun 7th 2008 2:28AM
Seriously, that's a horrible (in that it simply doesn't work") pun. Phonetics is wrong, number of letters is different, similarity of shape non-existant.. Rhyming isn't going to make the cut.
Scott @ Jun 7th 2008 4:22AM
You're just jealous because they get paid to come up with that ;p
I would be.
NukeAssault @ Jun 7th 2008 2:32AM
Now i want a new Jet Set game. =(
ZenGaijin @ Jun 7th 2008 10:56AM
Jet Grind/Set Radio is the only francise that I love that hasn't been revitalized this year.
*crosses his fingers for E3*

The only Jet Set game I ever played was Jet Set Radio Future. Awesome game, but I am upset that I sold my Xbox :(
Quite possibly the best free game to be included with the Xbox! (That bundle also included Sega GT 2002.)
Now, about that sequel... for Wii! Imagine the motion-sensing possibilities!!!

Jet Grind Radio: Wii Edition, confirmed.
liquidninja @ Jun 7th 2008 10:49AM
Yeah, I wish.
Come on SEGA! Come on!
Mr Khan @ Jun 7th 2008 3:48PM
Well, look at the track record:
NiGHTS
Samba De Amigo
House of the Dead
The only things Wii's missing is Jet Grind and Burning Rangers

"Burning Rangers"

I personally wouldn't mind a Shenmue for Wii, either. Be it a remake/compilation of the first two, or finally Shenmue III....
Dr Handsome @ Jun 7th 2008 11:10PM
Oh, and yeah, Jet Grind was one of my favorite games and would be a more than welcome addition to my Wii lineup.
Deck @ Jun 7th 2008 3:24AM
Oh I want my Jet Grind radio! That would be so great!
I played it so much back on the Dreamcast!
KeenCommander @ Jun 8th 2008 1:16AM
I still play that so much on my Dreamcast! That's the main reason I keep it hooked up still.

Damn you Wii and Jet Set Radio, how well you would fit together and be well, yet I know you shall never meet.
Why SEGA? Why?
t_m @ Jun 7th 2008 9:22AM
JSR was awesome. I only played it for the first time a year or so back, but it rocked.
I'd like a wii version, but a DS version would also totally rock. I just found out theres a GB version, so i'll have to keep an eye out for that!
Michael @ Jun 7th 2008 9:48AM
Wii would like to spray...
kataztrophy @ Jun 7th 2008 10:54AM
I'm glade ti's not for a JSR game. SEGA keeps dropping the ball when it comes to making long running series. What makes you guys think they wouldn't mess this one up? Just buy a Dreamcast and play Jet Grind.
Lijik @ Jun 7th 2008 8:14PM
Four words my newly met acquaintance: New Hideki Naganuma Music.
Even if Sega screws up the game, theres no way in hell Hideki can screw up the music, and that alone is good enough for me since that dude rarely does music in games.
Aberu @ Jun 7th 2008 11:28AM
THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
They will learn to graffitize everything in their little podunk town...
Where's my hero Jack Thompson when I need him!?
GearSecond! (a.k.a AwesomeStuff) @ Jun 7th 2008 11:52AM
Looks/sounds interesting. I'll add this to my 3rd Party List to look out for
Lord Bowser @ Jun 7th 2008 11:58AM
Awesome reading comprehension.

Ahp. Got me.

Am I the only one who thought of the following song when they saw the image?

Um... yeah... that was the intended cleverness of the annotation.
Wow... the hours and hours and hours and hours of listening to that soundtrack. I hated it when I first picked up the game, but grew to totally love it. I bought the soundtrack which contained about half of the songs. Definitely grab the soundtrack torrent if you can find it!
"Like dis, like dat, like dis, dis, like dat... It just feels good!"
pasht @ Jun 9th 2008 9:41AM
Yeah... after playing JSRF for about a billion hours, I had those songs stuck in my head for months. I took the time to hook up my xbox's audio out to my pc and record the songs one by one 'cause I didn't know they had released a soundtrack. I still have some of those godawful mp3 recordings around here somewhere...
I think this joystiq post has convinced me to seek out the OST though. As long as it's not stupid expensive.
Autopsy15 @ Jun 8th 2008 4:41AM
I'm so glad JSRF is backwards compatible.
neoREgen @ Jun 8th 2008 7:04PM
I came up with a similar idea for a Wiimote add-on a few months ago that would be used specifically for Jet Set Radio.
Mine was just a shell that you put the Wiimote in... not a mod. Like the wheel, the B button would have some additional plastic over it to slightly reorient how you press the B button. In this case, the B button would be placed in the same location as the button atop a spray can.
Underneath the top of the spray can shell would be a slanted reflective surface used to redirect the laser from the Wiimote at a 90 degree angle so that you can use IR while holding the Wiimote vertically. (I'm not really sure this would work.)
This way you can use your right hand to begin spraying via hitting B (Dreamcast motion style) and actually perform the motions (or in some cases, free paint).
The nunchuck would be used to control the character, C would reorient/hold to free view, Z would jump. Shaking the nunchuck would boost. Shaking the Wiimote would change tricks. That's about it for controls needed, right?
Anyway, I wouldn't know how to get credit for this idea in the first place (I'm no one would listen to me if I sent letters), and I also kind've doubt Sega will decide to do another Jet Set Radio, so I'm not exactly worried about anyone else stealing the idea.
If you like the idea, feel free to perpetuate it.
I would really love to see this (or something similar) happen.
This post got my hopes up a bit.
