hahahahaha...

Sony doesn't own Bluray. It's controlled by a group of like a dozen companies. Samsung, LG, Sharp, Hitachi are all in it. They'd rather care about the expansion of their HD format instead of a petty fanboy bullet point for the ps3. It's best to have plenty of cheap options for consumers to buy in on bluray, if it's the ps3 or 360.

I still don't see MS doing it though, as it goes against everything they've done to date. If anything, they should just put out another addon drive for the people who want it instead of spending time and money making up yet another 360 model.

MS would sell many more consoles if they just revised the 360 to end RROD issues and lowered the price. It's almost a joke how going on year 3 later this year, that the console in it's barest form isn't even down to the price of the wii. A $250 xbox 360 would sell tons more than a bluray model at christmas.

Robbie Bach (head of the E&D division at MS) made a non-denial denial on this today.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/06/08/BUPF11383J.DTL

He said "most people say they won't pay extra for BluRay".

This leaves a lot of wiggle room, both in that they might not charge extra for it and that "most people" buy a model other than the Elite anyway.

I still don't believe the rumor, but people who say MS denied it today I think are overstating the strength of the denial.

MS would never do an internal BD drive. Read speeds are too slow, and the hardware isn't made to accomodate that. Also, even if it were, it would mean HDD installs for games, which is a disaster. Not happening.

i upgraded to the Elite for no reason, and i will upgrade to the blu-ray version for no reason also.

Can't wait to get a loud ass, guaranteed to break, blu-ray player.
Seriously, I'm doubting Microsoft is going to bother. Companies are already working on games for the next Xbox. It'll probably come out in Novermber 2010. It'll have a blu-ray player. People will move quickly to the new Xbox, because Microsoft will start offering incentives to upgrade instead of repair, as their 360's inevitably die.
I'm thinking Microsoft is really not going to bother messing around with blu-ray for the 360. Maybe I'll be proved wrong at 9am Pacific time, but I doubt it.
