Criterion dates Burnout Paradise 'Cagney' update
Burnout Paradise's forthcoming "Cagney" patch will peel out on Thursday, July 10 according to developer Criterion Games, finally letting Paradise City motorists take the game's Stunt Run, Road Rage, and Marked Man events online in FreeBurn.
The previously announced update will also introduce 70 new FreeBurn challenges, a handful of new liveries, a trunk full of bug fixes, and a pair of new vehicles just waiting to be wrapped around a light pole. Once applied, PS3 drivers can also look forward to finally being able to orchestrate their crashes to custom soundtracks. As the first of three new expansion islands, "Cagney" looks to include plenty to keep our four wheels spinning, at least until August when we begin to send motorcycles careening onto oncoming traffic.

After this patch comes out I might pick this game up.

I really need to get a copy of this. It looks good and yet I still resist.

and this is why paradise is better than halo to me now. these updates make this game better and better all the time.
Slayer @ Jun 9th 2008 1:23PM
Paradise and Halo are two different games. Halo probably doesn't need many updates.

in reply to slayer:
yeah, they are two very different games that are also both very good games, but criterion is adding to the gameplay with new modes, gameplay tweaks and such. while matchmaking updates from bungie are fun, burnout paradise just seems to have appealed to me more than my old favorite, halo, as of late. still love them both, just burnout more so now.

Just a quick correction for you - there is only one (announced) expansion island, which will be a free as part of the Eastwood update (eta autumn this year).
Criterion are doing an amazing job of being open about their ongoing development adding Game Changing Content to Burnout Paradise but sometimes that leads to confusion because they are already working on features 2 or 3 updates away :-)

On Criterion's blog, they talked about 3 islands with different gameplay on each. Where did you see they cut it down to 1?
And I have to agree with everyone else. Criterion should get some kind of award for the post-release work they are doing for this game...all for FREE. Other developers should really look at what they are doing as shining examples of caring about gamers and not gamers' pockets.
With that said, where's my Black 2?

I have to say I am really impressed with this game. I bought a PS3 yesterday to go along with my 360 and Wii so I can sit on all sides ot the fence now :D But I can say that this game is alot of fun so far. I thought I would be annoyed with the drive around to get to the challenge thing but I find my self failing one and just doing what ever is where ever I am. It is so great for just tooling around with. And it has been great for turning my little kids loose on with its free for all just do what ever smash it all sandbox game play. My son gets frustrated with most race games since its point a to b and then he looses but here he can do what ever and have fun. He's 5 by the way. Either way it was a great first choice for my PS3 to hold me till MGS4 this week.

Did everyone who played this game register for the EA account? Why does EA have to do things differently with their games? I will probably put the disc back in my 360 once this update hits but I'm still going to be left out of multiplayer because I will not agree to let MS send information about me to EA with the hit of a button. I just don't think this should be the norm.

EA runs their own service outside of Live. It's part of their contract with Microsoft so they can kill servers to outdated games to force consumers onto the latest year. To play an EA game online, you have to agree to those terms. As to what info they collect, are you really that worried that EA will find out you played Avatar that you won't agree? Basically all the info they gather is already in your gamercard. It's like saying "I am completely outraged strangers have been reading the phrase on my clever T-Shirt."

So is this why I could not play on line last night. I hit no on the give my info to EA partners? I got online then it kicked me off right away blaiming my network connection. Which I have never had any problem logging online with any online games. I am using the PS3 version by the way.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jun 9th 2008 10:16PM
I've had an EA account since THPS4 (which predated Live, btw), and EA hasn't been bugging me. I have all the "contact me" options turned off.
It doesn't kick me off for no reason either.
Don't sweat this stuff.

awwww crap I'm off abroad unconnected for the entire month of July... was looking forward to playing the update when it came out, now I'm going to have to wait a few weeks :(
