Delayed horrification: Alone in the Dark finished

Atari has sent along word that its entry into the next-gen survival-horror action-survival fray is all wrapped up and ready to (*fingers crossed*) scare up retail bucks on June 24. (For every platform but PS3, that is.)
The oft-delayed Alone in the Dark series "restart" explores an even darker side ofSilent Hill NYC's Central Park. Based on our recent hands-on with the Xbox 360 version of game, the unique "TV episode" style mission structure and varied gameplay situations (not to mention lots of pretty fire) should help it stand out during a relatively slow spot in the release calendar. PS3 owners will have to wait until "autumn" (we hear, November to be exact) for their share of scares.

I don't know, Nato. That doesn't seem like an uncalled for reaction. There are lots of cool elements in AITD, but we really haven't seen much gameplay from it. There were the tech demos, a "gameplay" trailer with more cuts than a Dashboard Confessional concert, and a really horrible looking driving video. The way you manipulate objects in the game looks great for puzzles, but not at all good for combat and it's being shown off as an action game.
System garbage aside, I really need to see this one prove itself before I get excited over it. Once I get some review scores and 15 minutes of uncut gameplay so I can see how it actually goes and I'll be able to start making up my mind about getting it.

from the gameplay videos Ive seen, not too impressed. the driving aspects look VERY suspect, and the gameplay seems ok not great. It not like survival horror-type games are rare these days.
We havent seen much, so the jury is definitely still out, but If it is too good to pass up, I will just pick it up on PS2

I know what you mean, Veg, I'm just not sure this has what I would call above average gameplay. I haven't seen any.
A game "feeling" different is one of the reasons I will like it. Even something that's comes out rather average like Army of Two, which I enjoyed for the above reason, can strike right if it doesn't feel like more of the same. AoT, little issues aside, has a really neat, transparent kind of cover system and allows you to actually use the "I'll go out and distract them" plan friends and I have been trying out for years. The 3PS is hardly new, nor did AoT innovate all that much, but it felt different.
Compare that with Assassin's Creed. All sorts of fancy new climbing mechanics, counter attacks, rhythm-based attacks and crowd interaction, but you just went from point A to point B with some busy work in between. All the assassination target bosses were psychic and almost impossible to sneak up on and the basic guard was both impossibly stupid AND as agile as Altair, so all his freerunning skill was commonplace. It just wasn't the sum of its highly touted parts.
AITD has a system to combine items, dynamic fire and a oft-mentioned episodic layout, but I'm just not sure it's going to feel different than anything else. I have similar concerns with Dead Space, but it sits a little better with me because they're not pushing fancy dynamic fire or anything to sell it.

The physics and graphics impress me (this game makes my inner pyro jump for joy), but as for actual gameplay all I've seen ranks as "ehhh" so far. Definitely gonna at least rent it, but if the reviews are great across the board I'll likely buy it

For what I read it seems none of you are Alone in the Dark fans.
Make yourselves a favor and play "A new nightmare" before posting kthnxbi.
I really want to play this game Alone in the Dark A new nightmare was pretty cool and weird but in a good way.

Three cheers for Phil Harrison. Man that bastard really knows how to shake down a retarded company and make things happen!...Ya know...unless said company is beyond repair. In which case he just leaves...ahem.

*sigh* Why the hell did YOU have to read my post. If you'll notice by my avatar, I am a strong supporter of Sony, but more of a PC gamer.

I gotta say I don't think I'm gonna like how literally dark this game is going to be. Like, as in lighting. I don't think the wowzers fire effects are gonna do enough either.

No kidding... I'm pretty interested in this game, but I saw a trailer for it while waiting in line in a Hollywood Video and couldn't see anything except for the fire. It was pretty bad (how dark it was).
Of course the trailer came on right after a music video for some kind of neo-country song with a chorus of "Hollywood's not America". I got dirty looks from behind the counter for suggesting that it was an "interesting choice" for a music video to be played at a Hollywood video. Oh well...

pre-ordering tomorrow i believe. Gamestop.com gives you a Shirt, a Soundtrack CD, and 10 bucks off if you pre-order.
It was hard not to pass this up and buy Battlefield: Bad Compay, but for this offer i couldn't help but get this first. BF:BC will be a june purchase for me.

Well personally I'm really waiting for this game. And wait I shall since I only own a ps3 (well ps2 too actually). But that's really not a problem, I just hope the end product will be good.

Was looking forward to this on the PS3, but now that I think about it I will be busy with MGS4 and after that SIREN, plus the back log of games I have. By the time this comes out Ill be busy with Bioshock, Fallout 3, Silent Hill, Little Big Planet, and Resistance 2.

Hardly, I just listed the games that I am getting just to illustrate that I will have very little time come November to play this game. If it wouldn't have been delayed I would've had a chance to play.

*Sigh*.
Everybody is saying "uh, I'll be on MGS4 ofr the rest of my PS3's life..." But what if, MGS4 REALLY sucks? Like, worse than the MGS on the PSP? And I know that all of the reviewers are touching themselves in unthinkable ways over it, but they've been overhyped before. (Assassins Creed, Haze.) Konami may have paid them to say that, much like I think MS paid reviewers to highly rave over Halo 3, which was tripe.
Not trolling, just saying something about all of your eggs in one basket.

There is enough info out there that I think most people can make an educated decision that MGS4 is going to be epic. Just like GTAIV, or Halo 3, or COD4. Enough gameplay footage is out there, enough reviews have played through the entire game. Hell EGM had a 4-page write-up that wasnt even a review. Enough info is out there that people know what to expect.

I never go by what reviewers say, there have been plenty of games that I have enjoyed in the past that have gotten horrible review scores. I think Im going to enjoy MGS4 very much based on the "non-review" info and gameplay footage I've seen so far.

Probably for the best that the PS3 version is delayed. MGS4 hogs the June spotlight.

I hope they release a demo before it hits retail. It looks interesting, but a demo would do well to sway me towards a purchase (or possibly deter me if it ends up sucking, we'll see).
