Super Monkey Ball for iPhone shown at Apple keynote
In case you're currently not tuned into the WWDC Steve Jobs keynote, Apple's Scott Forstall and Sega's Ethan Einhorn showed off Super Monkey Ball for the iPhone. According to Einhorn, after eight weeks of development, the developers have created 110 stages.
While we haven't had a glimpse of the game in action, Engadget had this to say: "Crap, these graphics look unbelievable compared to anything we've seen on a cellphone before. Seriously, these are DS-quality graphics, easily." We'll update with more info and video as soon as we can find it. [Update: video posted after the break!]

I think I must be the only person in the US who is neither obsessed with the iPhone, nor interested in getting one.
Once you get past the touch screen, what's the big deal?
Maverick Saturn @ Jun 9th 2008 1:54PM
I'll be the only one in the UK, lets be anti iPhone pals :)
Hashbrown Hunter @ Jun 9th 2008 1:54PM
It's a dumbed-down version of a dumbed-down smartphone. People are idiots, and Apple capitalizes on that.
tjlenz @ Jun 9th 2008 1:56PM
I am planning on getting one soon. The idea of having my iPod and my phone in one device plus allowing me to show potential employers my demo reel. Then on top of that having internet in my pocket is a pretty big deal.
Marty @ Jun 9th 2008 2:02PM
If I were your potential employer, and you showed me a demo reel on your iPhone (as opposed to a laptop, like a real professional), I think I'd throw out your resume after you left.
NATO_Duke @ Jun 9th 2008 2:04PM
Yes, we get it: Everyone without an iPhone calls the rest of us idiots for having one. Can't we move past this being mentioned in every thread about one.
The phone is used and loved by millions, whether you like it or not. Its a convenient device to many of us.
xFenixKnightx @ Jun 9th 2008 2:15PM
Yeah I hear ya Marty. After the coolness of the touchscreen wears off the arghhhhh >:( at texting comes in. I fell for it, oh well.
deaftly @ Jun 9th 2008 2:18PM
I got one about 3 weeks ago and I do have to say its one of the most impressive devices I've ever had. Its my phone, I hook it up to my car's head unit for music and its a great video player when you're on the go. The amount of 3rd party apps that you can get after you jailbreak it is crazy awesome. Best. Phone. Ever.
rTwelve [xbl:chilblane] @ Jun 9th 2008 2:23PM
Why don't you actually read up on the product or perhaps go to an Apple store and check one out, instead of instantly assuming anything with the word "Apple" or "i" in it is crap. Your fanboyism (or anti, so to speak) makes you look like a fool. There's a reason you are in a very light shade of gray.
Co @ Jun 9th 2008 2:23PM
Deaftly,
Haven't heard of the Voyager then, I take it?
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 9th 2008 2:25PM
I have an iPod Touch, and it's a beauty. I prefer to carry my iPod Touch than my laptop.
I can listen music, watch videos and pics and use any WiFi spot to surf the web.
Jakka @ Jun 9th 2008 2:27PM
Well...Iphones are pretty much just like Ipods.
Yes,you're cool for the first few weeks but the truth is there are far cheaper and better smartphones.I'm semi-happy with my LG Viewty but I'd gladly trade it for a PDA.
Jakka @ Jun 9th 2008 2:29PM
"The amount of 3rd party apps that you can get after you jailbreak it is crazy awesome."
Name me one other phone that needs to be jailbroken in order to unlock it's full potential.
...
That's what I thought.
xFenixKnightx @ Jun 9th 2008 2:29PM
Co
I had the voyager, I miss that keyboard :( But overall I guess the Iphone is a bit sexier. lol
Co @ Jun 9th 2008 2:34PM
Yea Fenix I'll give you that, it is a sexy bastard. But man if the Voyager doesn't run laps around it in functionality. All I got is a 2 gig SD in it too, with plenty of room!
NATO_Duke @ Jun 9th 2008 2:41PM
"Yes,you're cool for the first few weeks but the truth is there are far cheaper and better"
The last reason I got this phone was to look cool. Is that seriously the logic you think everyone uses? I got it for the mobile web, email and music applications on a phone that was easy to navigate. It doesn't hurt that they keep raising the bar with the updates. Maybe you should read the conference note going right now and see that this phone gets a lot more new perks than most others.
KeenCommander @ Jun 9th 2008 2:46PM
I think it's a neat phones, but for me it would never be a practical iPod. My normal playlist is 2132 songs, about 15GB and a 16GB iPhone is just way too expensive, not to mention that it wouldn't be too awfully long before I exceeded that capacity. I do have to agree, though, that if I was going to hire you and you showed me something on your phone, Apple made or otherwise, I'd kick you out on the spot.
xFenixKnightx @ Jun 9th 2008 2:47PM
I had a 4 gigger Micro SD mem card in there too and had a crap load of stuff. Yeah the functionality of the Voyager and even probably of that new Samsung Glider as a pure phone beats the Iphone.
Marty @ Jun 9th 2008 2:50PM
Gosh, I didn't call anyone an idiot, I just said I wasn't interested in the iPhone. Seems the people who own them are more hostile than the people who aren't!
If you're that un-confident in your purchase of the phone, why buy it in the first place?
deaftly @ Jun 9th 2008 2:53PM
11:46 am The iPhone 3G will be available July 11th in 22 countries. The maximum price around the world is $199 USD. Now showing an ad.
11:45 am $299 for the 16GB -- a white version of this size will be available too.
11:45 am Now on to the final challenge -- affordability. Started at $599 for an 8GB iPhone, now $399. The iPhone 3G 8GB will sell for... $199.
Looks like i'll have to upgrade :(
NATO_Duke @ Jun 9th 2008 2:56PM
Marty, give it a rest man. People get all pissy over that phone around here and you know it. Don’t even try your backwards psychology with me, saying I'm not confident in my purchase because I remark that it’s lame for people to always talk smack about it.
I bet if I do a search over your past posts, I will see that you've made comments like the one above each time the iPhone is mentioned.
rTwelve [xbl:chilblane] @ Jun 9th 2008 2:56PM
hostility =/= lack of confidence
your trolling is failing.
Jakka @ Jun 9th 2008 3:05PM
@ NATO
Actually, you have a point there.
Bear in mind I'm writing from UK though. Here IPhones are so expensive that it's better to get an HTC PDA for 12 month-£30/month than buy an Iphone for £250 THEN be forced to have a £45/month contract.
ogvor @ Jun 9th 2008 3:21PM
I don't care for the iPhone (super expensive contract) but the iPod touch is a great Mp3 player that can access the internet from any Wi-Fi hot spot. And its the real internet, not fake "cell-phone" internet. You can do a ton of stuff like check out gaming blogs, send email, check google maps, weather, stocks... It's just real nice having the internet any where their is Wifi (which is a lot more prevalent now).
Co @ Jun 9th 2008 3:25PM
Yea, it's the "real internet" not the "crappy phone internet" because here in 2008 theres this thing called "mobile internet" which brings the "real internet" to your mobile device unlike in the days of "crappy phone internet".
Trust me, more than the iPhone and your iPod Touch have access to this "real internet". And 3G over WiFi anyday.
Scott @ Jun 9th 2008 4:11PM
The Voyager is worse than many "normal" phones, much less "smart" phones. The web browser is terrible, and the app support is non-existant. Does anyone make BREW apps anymore?
Paul (PSN: heypaul) @ Jun 9th 2008 4:20PM
What Apple has done so well recently is take products that have existed for ages, create a more "user friendly" version, and market it so brilliantly that everyone is convinced that their product is not only brand new, but revolutionary. I have an O2 XDA II that does 95% of what the iPhone does. The difference? It was released four and a half years ago.
Co @ Jun 9th 2008 4:42PM
Scott,
I see you've never used a Voyager before.
My internet when using one of the million mobile-tuned web pages (or just searching thru Google mobile) is lighting fast.
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 9th 2008 1:52PM
I love Super Monkey Ball. I have every version and it's a very fun and challenging game.
Me hearts AiAi and MeeMee.
=p
Maverick Saturn @ Jun 9th 2008 1:54PM
Urgh, monkey ball again? When will this game crash and burn ¬_¬
Ken Seang @ Jun 9th 2008 3:00PM
Or fall off a edge over and over again and never come back...
FOXHOUND @ Jun 9th 2008 2:08PM
No Banana Phone joke? For shame! XD

Jakka @ Jun 9th 2008 2:30PM
Banana Phone!

"Seriously, these are DS-quality graphics"
I think most DS games look like cellphone games. By they way, here is something similar from two years ago: http://wireless.ign.com/articles/741/741844p1.html
required @ Jun 9th 2008 2:20PM
Also if you enjoy playing games on your phone you should try http://wireless.ign.com/articles/750/750258p1.html it's truly a great game.
KeenCommander @ Jun 9th 2008 2:50PM
This is probably the perfect game for iPhone because it should work with the controls, but ultimately I don't think the iPhone market is a major videogame market and I don't think anything but casual games would ever work with those controls, or rather lack of controls. You'll probably get a better caliber of games than on a normal phones but, regardless of how nice they may look, DS or PSP this is not.
