So I log on to WiiWare this afternoon, and what do I see is the latest addition to the service? My Pokémon Ranch. A jolt of fear shot through me. "How did they find it?!" I shouted aloud. "Was it the FCC? The SEC? I know they've all been looking for My Pokémon Ranch, but I never thought it would come to this!" I had just called my secretary Beverly to warn her and to order her to start putting Caterpies into the shredder before the Feds got to them when I realized my error.
Apparently, My Pokémon Ranch (Nintendo, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points) is a game that lets you introduce your Miis and your Pokémon (they can be imported from Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl) and allow them to hang out together. It is not, literally, my Pokémon ranch, though I think it's an error that anyone could make. But don't worry, the shredding was promptly halted.
Good! I've just got 1000 points from the Stars=Points thing that I've been meaning to spend. Since I had no idea the Stars were of any use I'm getting this game for free. Or might get that Dr. Mario wiiware title (hate the game though). My Pokemans want to be on my new TV.
I suppose it's like Afrika (I think I spelt it right. At least sony-right) but that it connects to a game you already have. And you can also unlock Mew and some other rare Pokemon on it.
*shrugs* people pay for promotional podcasts and demos so I don't see the problem. Isn't it true that you also have to buy clothes and such in Home? For a mini-mini-game that furthers another game I have I'm not bothered.
Transferring them to Pokemon Ranch clears space in the DS card's boxes, so you can collect more creatures or experiment with different breeding combinations. Basically, it's for folks who are hurting for space to keep all of the critters they spent hours upon hours collecting and training. It's the same principle as Pokemon Box (which was for the GBA-generation games and GameCube), with the added bonus of a little more interactivity. Might be a little overpriced, but if you're a hardcore Poke-addict it's worth it.
I'm not ashamed to say that I am a hardcore Poke-addict.
I've had this game for almost 2 months now, and I do have to say, while I don't own Diamond or Pearl, the only fun in it is to turn the game on every day to see what Pokemon they give you, then turn it off to see a silhouette of the Pokemon they'll give you tomorrow. But I have alot of double on my farm, can anyone explain this to me, I have the Japanese version.

I need a caterpie-sized shredder at once! Just think of all the various things you could shred.
Kattleox @ Jun 9th 2008 9:55AM
They call it a "Bendtech Blender". The latest episode of Will it Blend was "Caterpie: Will it Blend?" It's up there with the glow sticks on my list.

SA2 Chao Garden > Pokemon Ranch
Nights Chao is infinitely more cute than any pokemon, even Charmander.

This doesn't sound like it's worth $10...but I'm sure it'll still sell like eleventy-billion copies.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Jun 9th 2008 11:31AM
i hear Nintendo is in court now trying to make that a real number for just such an occasion.
they also ran out of numbers to count their money with so it's win-win for them.
koehler83 @ Jun 9th 2008 10:07AM
They sure didnt spare on the polygons did they?
Mr Khan @ Jun 9th 2008 4:08PM
limitations of WiiWare
You have to support 493+ (for different models of Burmy and a few others) different models and stick them together into 43 MB or less
Burnt Meatloaf @ Jun 10th 2008 4:37AM
Models like that are in the order of 500 bytes each, not 500K.

So... I can transfer thousands of Pokemon from Pearl and Diamond to my Wii to take up memory space for the sake of... what?
No battling, trading, or experience.
It seems like it's just a screen saver...
Imaginationland Warrior @ Jun 9th 2008 11:45AM
Yeah, I'm with you, so you just put a bunch of pokemon in a ranch to watch them run around doing what? I don't understand it.

If the main point of this title is for off-loading extra Pokemon, then I get it and it and I think that its a good idea.
I couldn't really see how this was going to have any stand-alone gaming potential.

40 million?

I have to give props to Pokémon Ranch for one thing:
It's the only game to make big and tough-looking Pokémon like Gyarados, Dialga, Palkia, etc. look cute.
DON'T YOU JUST WANNA HUG THEM?!
Donald @ Jun 9th 2008 3:43PM
I tried to hug a Gyarados once.
It promptly charged its lazer and Hyper Beamed me in the face. ;_;

Im gonna fill my game with teh mudkipz, then when people ask me "i herd u liek teh mudkipz" I can whip out my wii and go "DUDE WTF TOTALLY MAN".

Yeah, I don't think people like it when you whip out your Wii around them.

Excellent Ninty. More content to waste our dough on before you actually give us what we *want.*
No, I'm not bitter in the slightest.
Burnt Meatloaf @ Jun 10th 2008 5:01AM
The Nintendo you knew is gone, man. That WAS the revolution.
Mr. Numeros @ Jun 10th 2008 2:43PM
This game needs more safari, less ranch.
Mr. Numeros @ Jun 10th 2008 2:47PM
So what you're saying is WiiWare is the size of 2 GBA carts duct taped together.
Mr. Numeros @ Jun 10th 2008 2:48PM
Boo to the comment not being a reply as originally intended. I wonder if this one will.
