Following Sega's
Super Monkey Ball iPhone demo during
today's WWDC Apple keynote, Pangea Software's Brian Greenstone took the stage to show two games they have been working on,
Enigmo and
Cro-Mag Rally, both games that date back to
at least 2003 for the developer. Said Grenstone, both games took "three days to get each game up and running -- totally playable."
No other news is available
. Monkey Ball notwithstanding, it's kind of disappointing we haven't seen anything from known iPhone devs
Ubisoft,
Electronic Arts,
id Software or Gameloft. Pictures of
Cro-Mag Rally for iPhone after the break.

Blech. This was the worst Apple Keynote ever, I think. I have zero interest in anything that was announced.

I agree, im kinda tempted to upgrade my iphone but 3g and gps isn't that big of a deal when theres friggin wifi connections everywhere here, plus you can get 3rd party gps apps for free. The games do look semi sweet though.

Cro-Mag Rally? What year is this, 1998? Snood is cute, but Cro-Mag Rally sucks. A lot. I'd rather play the old Tron game where you simply navigate a colored line without intersecting another. At least it was multiplayer and had neat avatars. Cro-Mag Rally, I spit on you.

Enigmo's really quiet fun I've been wish for it to come out for Wii Ware with the Wii remote I think it would work well. I've had it for my Mac for a year it's been one of the only Mac games I've ever bought. Also iPhone 8GB $199 I'm pretty happy I've been wanting to buy an iPod touch as my mini is 3 years old now.

I think perhaps the important thing to recognize here is not these specific games, but apparently how easy it is to code for the thing, the ease of app delivery, the new lower cost and the apparent world-wide release (70 countries). What that means is that there will be a lot of these in the marketplace pretty soon, and larger companies like UbiSoft and EA, who've already committed to the device, will now have greater incentive to publish on the platform. Could we get a load of crap for the thing? Sure. But we might get a few good games in the mix, perhaps some that are even pretty interesting if they can incorporate the on-board GPS, camera, etc., functions of the device.
The games presented today, for the most part, were quick ports designed to take advantage of early-adopter dollars. The device does seem to show promise that larger developers, with more resources and more time, might be able to ship something new and worthwhile on the platform. Any platform that can help push gaming forward is a good thing, no?

I remember Enigmo! Man, I gotta go re-install it on my X51V! Oh that and GeoRally EX, and ToyGolf, and the other few 3D-accelerated games!

Can somebody say 'Trism'? Kthx.

No why, what was it? Was it also a massively popular phone that's about to pwn the market? Was it also a 16gb iPod, and have wifi, GPS, and a 3D graphics chip to match the Dreamcast?
