This Wednesday: Commando 3 and Frogger 2 hop onto XBLA
Xbox Live Arcade, ever the service to indulge the inner omni-directional shooter fan we all obviously have, is getting another dose of run-one-direction-while-shooting-in-another this week – with an extra-special added bonus. Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 (800 MS points) is just one of several Capcom retro resurrections hitting Live this year and provides a highly stylized new take (with three-player coop) on the arcade classics Commando and Mercs. Of course, that added bonus we spoke of is a "golden ticket" into the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix beta, which will be available for download on June 25 to anyone who purchases Commando 3. Is that a deal anyone can pass up, Ryu? "Sho-you-can't!"
Wolves (or shooting) not your thing? Voltex (the developer, not a Ukranian pop star) has you covered in ah-dorable little frogs this week with Frogger 2 (800 MS points). This spiritual successor to the coin-op classic (also available on XBLA) features new levels, new artwork, and what no XBL game can be without: a co-op mode (for up to four players, in this case). This release should at least make the parents of young'ns hoppy.

I bought commandos 3 on PSN last week and I do have to say it's a great game with one minor problem. If you're playing single player, you have to beat the game all the way through on one credit since hitting "X to continue" drops you back into the main menu. Hopefully that's a PSN exclusive and they'll patch it soon but forewarned is forearmed....

Can we take bets on how long it will take before that Frogger game gets delisted?
Jcarpio @ Jun 9th 2008 2:57PM
Sure, i'll take that bet.. 6 months ;)

Oh C'mon guys... it takes sheer nuts to release a game who's graphics were made in MSPaint onto XBLA and talk about HD.

I'm waiting for the 200 point "level expansion pack" for Frogger 2, or the 250 point "alternate skin" for the frog that "transforms" it into Alfred Chicken.

I'm one of those guys who will probably buy Commando 3 just to play SSF2THDR. So how much will the full version cost? It would be ironic if it cost $10 as well.

This whole Beta thing is a marketing ploy. I can wait. Why would this game need a beta for mass testing? Really why?

SF2:HDRM clearly needs a beta for net play as the success of the game hinges on good net code and the only way to properly test that is real world beta. Considering how successful programs like GGPO are at hiding lag in these games, we can only hope the beta will nudge SF2:HDRM to its level.

How many times has a Capcom game with an online component shipped and worked day 1? I have to ask because I beta'd their first three online games with Auto Modellista, Monster Hunter, and Resident Evil Outbreak on PS2 and based upon my playtime with Lost Planet on 360, things haven't improved.
