This is one few good things that would happen if EA got Take-Two. We'd get Alpha Centauri II.

I don't understand. Does Sid Meier even still code? Why is he so amazing? I'm not trying to be a douche bag I just don't know.

yes he does actually still code, in fact he's had a hand in the AI and... something else, can't remember what in Civ Revolution. :)

But more importantly is his influence/impact on the game industry past & present. He co-founded MicroProse, and later founded Firaxis. He designed Civ and Pirates, 2 legendary franchises; I'm pretty sure he's invented a game genre or two along the way as well. I know he's done more but can't think of the rest off the top of my head. Seriously though, read up on the guy, he's a gaming god; like Miyamoto level, no joke.

That's a bit like asking, "Why is Peter Jackson so amazing? Does he even act?"

Sid Meier has phenomenal talents for game design, and I think the Miyamoto analogy is a good one.

Alpha Centauri, what a great game. Funny to think in 1999 that PC gaming was dominant. Alpha Centauri and Baldur's Gate came out, and Team Fortress: Classic was taking off.

I haven't bought a PC game since Half-Life 2. A new Alpha Centauri would definitely bring me back.

I just realized how memorable that game was after seeing that graphic; I remember each of those faction's general agenda's and heart-string pulling stories to get you to be assimilated to their thinking.

Anyway... those tech trees were always fun to look at. I'll take.

"I just realized how memorable that game was"

I guess it wasnt too memorable, since you had to be reminded. j/k

I liked it, but I always thought it was Civ in space. It did have original ideas, but still basically Civ in space.

I respect to epic following that the game has, I just dont get into space things easily.

I agree, but not enough to want them to takeover Take Two.

No, EA, gamers don't want you destroying any other franchises. The real tragedy here isn't that Sid Meier can't do it, but that EA got their hands on the franchise in the first place.

Wow, so I guess this would be the silver lining if EA manages to buyout TakeTwo? I'd be sad, but if it meant more Sid-designed alpha centauri... oh man I'm conflicted now >_

Just the thought of pummeling Sister Miriam and Lady Deidra into the stoneage with a Civ IV quality engine is enough to make me excited. I seriously hope this becomes a reality.

True that. As great as the Civilization series was (probably the best ever), the Abe Lincoln / Caesar avatar thing was always very campy.

Sister Miriam, however. That fundamentalist a-hole struck fear into my heart.

EA: Nobody is better suited to do Alpha Centauri 2 than Meier.

Us: No shit.

I always played as the Spartan Federation. Sister Miriam was a nutcase and the Asian chairman was a crazy fascist. Lady Diedre would act all naive at first, but then she would turn the entire planet's fawna on you.

The extreme personalities and pretty good AI made me really hate or like the different factions. I didn't realize how much I miss that game until now...damn you EA!...you better produce.

At least, it's an encouraging comment. They may not be doing anything about it now, but they're admitting they know how it should be done.

Alpha Centauri was the first civ-type game I ever played and I loved it. I got it a couple of years after its release, in a special-edition pack that included the expansion pack and the Prima strategy guide. I've never gone out of my way to buy those guides, but in this case, getting one with the game was a life-saver. After a lot of heavy reading, I couldn't stop spending entire week-ends playing that damn game.

A new Alpha Centauri based on the Civ IV engine would be amazing.

T2 should sell itself to EA immediately. At least for the time it would take to develop and publish AC2

I always liked Alpha Centauri better than Civ because of the awesome narrative and the fact that you could customize any unit in the game. The way it handled "pollution" was cooler (fungal blooms) and the planet buster actually changed the geometry of the map. Just a radical game, I can't tell you how many hours of my life it has eaten.

I still play SMAC at random intervals. It was the first civ game I ever played, and I love it to death.

I remember my friend actually gave me the game for free because he didn't like it. Best gift I've ever gotten.

SMAC 2 on Civ IV engine would be amazing, assuming they kept it true to the original.

All this talk of SMAC made me want to play it again. I'm trying to re-install it on XP now. I seem to remember you had to tweak it a bit to make it work. Any pointers?
