Though we're certain Square Enix's interpretation of words like "final" and "last" differs greatly from ours (o hai Final Fantasy XIX!), we think we're all in the same boat when it comes to "first," as in, "The Last Remnant will launch on the Xbox 360 first." Speaking at a Japanese Xbox 360 press conference (liveblogged by IGN), Square Enix revealed that the Unreal-powered RPG would be arriving on Microsoft's system first this Winter, with the PlayStation 3 version following at a later date.
The Last Remnant is still set to enjoy one of those newfangled worldwide releases, with North America, Europe and Japan receiving the Xbox 360 version simultaneously -- or at least, close to simultaneously.
well im a Playstation fan, and im saying, i dont care if 360 guys get to play it to as long as i still get to play it on my PS3 as well. Final Fantasy is one of the main reasons i own a PS3 anyway so i would be bummed if i lost it to Microsoft completely.
i dont mind sharing good games, but honestly, if MS somehow scooped FF exclusively, that would probably be the thing to make me wave the white flag and get a 360.
huh.....thats not even Final Fantasy. i dont know what i was thinking it was. oh well, i still feel the same way since it does still look pretty good to me.
I know it sounds stupid but when I read "unreal-powered rpg" the first thing that came to mind was final fantasy with characters like fenix from GoW andUnreal tournament guys. That would be awesome.
At this point, 2 days before MGS4, I think its time for Sony to go Sega and drop out of the console game.
Seriously, today, Sony should officially announce they will no longer be supporting the system. Well.. they should admit they they've never been supporting it all along. Just announce the imminent cancellation of the FFXIII compilation and lets move on.
Today is the day, in my mind, Microsoft wins the console war.
Yeah, I wouldn't go that far, but X360 has definately turn the corner on "shooterbox" only console. Definately got me thinking about getting a X360 if the price drop happens this year.
this is hilarious!!! I will remember this when PS3 passes 360 in worldwide sales next year, as every single analyst has predicted.
Just because the 360 dominates the states, doesnt mean it does everywhere, it gets outsold 8:1 in JPN, and recently past 360 in LTD sales in EU, despite the year head-start.
Gotta agree that any talk of someone winning the console war is silly. There is no way that Sony would drop their PS line. They are making lots of money, like everyone else, and thats what a business cares about.
This idea that you have to make more money than the others to keep going is plain insane. You don't have to be 1st in business to be the only one left. (See car industry.)
Let be honest here. I know that there has been a lot of other games than shooter on the X360 but to me its been half hearted attempts. With all the Kameos and Viva Pintas and Forza's, a lot of developers and publishers look to have "gun play" as the main feature in most of its games on the X360. Yea all of them were not FPS or 3rdPS but ones that weren't had to have a "shooting" mechanics. Crackdown, Shadowrun, Saints Row, Lost Planet, even WRPG style Too Human has gun play. It what sells, so much so, Sony is try capitalize on it instead of JRPGs, which left X360 a market to fill.
Yeah I don't think Sony cares about finishing first or last in a meaningless race as long as they make lots of money, which they are doing (as well as everyone else).
Also in one year the ps3 has already had way more good to great games than the ps2 had in its first year, and I'm pretty sure it's selling just as good if not better than the ps2 did in a year.
Dude! Dont bust on Viva Pinata. How was Forza half hearted?
Here's what I detect in these posts - people say that MS has done a lousy job with non FPS games, but then they haven't played them because they aren't their style of game. So how can the game be half hearted if you haven't played them?
Remind me again, how many times have the analyst told us that? I see you have givin up on this being "TEH YAR OFF DE PSTRIPPLE!" and started pumping next year.
It was suppose to take off when it started selling. It was suppose to take off after [Game name here.] was released. It was suppose to take off after a price cut. Meanwhile, Nintendo and MS are making a profit on their consoles and release a steady stream of decent games. Why does Sony have to "win" so bad?
WOW, they lost 28 millions this past year, and now their putting rpg's on the 360 first, not a good idea. Ill wait for the ps3 version if its any good, since i like the controller and don't know if ill have a 360 by then. SONY needs to start throwing some money around, but then again i guess aquare is trying to be square, lol, since the ps3 has two ff 13 games, which we know nothing about, nice one square.
The funny thing is that square would be making less statistically if they were to come out with rpgs on the ps3 at least at the moment. It's a common misconception that the ps3 is selling well in japan. The Psp is (new trend), the ds is and the wii is. That's it. It's obvious that microsoft is funding these projects a whoooole lot to get these exclusives. That's something sony wouldn't do. Square's situation is like being between a rock and a hard place. "Next Gen" in japan just isn't happening..and square relies on that to push their software. A lot of it is their fault. They still are making the same darn game over and over again. They used to be ahead of the curve graphically (which meant sales in america and europe at least) and that seems to not be the case anymore. They spit in nintendo's face when they went to sony and now nintendo might be the only viable money making scheme. That, or keep pushing that 360...it very well might revive square when/if a cheaper, more reliable generation of consoles comes along.
Nicely said and it's something that I've been saying for awhile. I mean console gaming in general isn't doing so hot in Japan. Why else do you think Japanese developers such as Capcom are making western influenced games?
If we consider your "logic" in your post, maybe RPG fans saw that LO and Blue Dragon was a "nice try" by Microsoft to publish a couple of JRPG but never took it as a commitment to the genre. But with SE pushing four titles to X360 title with in a year (Infinate Undiscovery, Tales of Vesperia, Star Ocean, and now timed exclusive The Last Reminant) and Sony can't tell you when their two big JRPGs (FF13 and White Knight) are coming out, it showing for now that X360 is the place JRPGs for the moment.
Why is what Name is saying so outlandish? Both these games were touted as the next big thing, and neither one was.
We have nothing to base how these new RPG's are going to do off of except how the past RPG's have done, and its not pretty. Just because there is now a more wide variety of games on teh 360 doesnt mean it isnt still the shooterbox, as those are the only games that sell well.
While PS3 games dont sell nearly as much, because the install base is much lower, you still have shooters that sell well, like COD4, but you have games like R&C, Uncharted, and Heavenly Sword that do well also, and MGS4 will be the best selling PS3 game in a matter of days.
Ok, seriously if people don't get off the "shooterbox" thing then we're going to have to bring back the "PS3 has gamez?!?! LOLZ!!!" crap too.
Both are just as old, outdated, and irrelevant as the other.
Only shooters sell on the 360? 3 of the top 10 selling 360 games are shooters. 2 of the top 10 selling PS3 games are shooters (and another is Uncharted which is pretty damn close to a shooter). Wow, huge difference *rolls eyes*.
Just because a console does one thing really well doesn't mean that it doesn't do everything else well. That's just as stupid as saying the the PS3 does games poorly because it plays Blu-ray movies so well.
Anyone that uses the term shooterbox is no better (or less blind and foolish) than the schmucks who say "LOL I THOUGHT THE PS3 WAS JUST A BLU-RAY PLAYER!"
"So you're going by sales as to whether games are good or not?"
uh, that wasn't what he stated (at least I hope it wasnt), I think what he meant by showing the sales numbers wasn't to say that they were no good but to show that they just weren't successful...
And although name123 mentioned it with a hell lot of fanboyism, the statement still stands, RPGs aren't successful on the console...
Blue Dragon, even with a freaking anime, wasn't successful
Yup, 360 is all about the FPS's...err, NOT! Not only does it have the most diverse library. It has the best library. Amazing what almost 1 year headstart can do.
*Waits for RROD comment from a Sony fanboy, sadly I know which ones will do it too haha.
These 360 RPGs are just calculated, uninspired attempts to broaden the 360s appeal (so are Viva Pinata/Kameo/Banjo). They are proof that the 360 is struggling to appeal to non-FPS players.
It's true that the 360 has more than FPS games, but if you aren't into FPS games there's no reason to get a 360 over a PS3.
The 360 isn't "struggling" for shit(well, the Wii's casual market, but that's something entirely different).
Also, anyone who has actually *played* Viva Pinata would not call it "uninspired." It was a clever, beautiful game of which I put more hours into than every PS3 game I've played so far *combined* (even though somehow I did get screwed out of my 50 HR achievement...)
It's not about what genres the 360 has, it's about what genre (singular) actually gets played, and furthermore what the console is soley known for. And THAT is FPS.
Looks ok I guess, but I'm not falling for JRPGs flashy cutscenes anymore. I need lots more details on the gameplay before I get suckered into buying another JRPG like I did with Lost Odyssey
It would have been a lot better if it didn't have gameplay from 1992 SNES RPGs. I can't believe I managed to beat the game AND spend 40+ hours playing it with such boring combat. Amazing what achievements do to me :(
