Though we're certain Square Enix's interpretation of words like "final" and "last" differs greatly from ours (o hai Final Fantasy XIX!), we think we're all in the same boat when it comes to "first," as in, "The Last Remnant will launch on the Xbox 360 first." Speaking at a Japanese Xbox 360 press conference (liveblogged by IGN), Square Enix revealed that the Unreal-powered RPG would be arriving on Microsoft's system first this Winter, with the PlayStation 3 version following at a later date.
The Last Remnant is still set to enjoy one of those newfangled worldwide releases, with North America, Europe and Japan receiving the Xbox 360 version simultaneously -- or at least, close to simultaneously.
Ugh fanboys. 1. Who cares what it comes out for first as long as it comes out for both. 2. I would rather have a good game exist on a system I don't have (yet) than crap that is exclusive.
Or the hundred thousands of JRPG fans who want something to play while Sony get its thumb out of its butt.
Outside of MGS4 and my PS2 backlog, I am starting to wonder if I jump on the wrong first console this generation. Oh course if you told me that X360 would triple in the number of JRPG's then Sony, I would have called you a high little fanboy.
All these people in destroyed worlds fighting villians and monsters, yet they can keep their hair so effortlessly styled and gelled. I'm not just talking about this game, but the whole genre. It's like every world has no peace, but copious amounts of hair gel.
I must really not be paying attention, because last time I knew anything about this game it was a PS3 exclusive. As I understood it PS3 was getting Last Remnant while 360 got Infinite Undiscovery, which quite frankly annoyed me. I'm glad one has gone over (not so glad at the delay, but hey it's no Bioshock), but I guess Infinite Undiscovery is still exclusive.
I'm of two minds about exclusive titles. On one hand I think every console (and most throughout history) has very specific strengths and weaknesses and I love the variety wet get with hardware. There are probably some games that just aren't easy to transfer without doing major reworking that isn't as easy as it used to be, like back in the day you could make Gameboy versions of things and they were way toned down, but had basically the same things going on.
However, if there's no good technical and development reason (and I think sometimes this is the case) then either the developers hate money or someone is slipping some cash under the table, which I don't think we need. That's a pretty conspiracy theory look at the world, though, and might be as real as Bigfoot.
Point is, Infinite Undiscovery would be nice to have on PS3. A lot of words to say that, but whatever.
Im not sure if its because they are using the unreal engine or the fact that all the character designs look exatcly the same as the ones found in modern FF games (and a lot of other rpgs lately) but this looks incredible generic.
Jesus christ, Square Enix really has to think up some new character designs, these look directly ripped from FFXII with dye jobs. It's getting bloody ridiculous.
Just to jump into the RPG discussion here; has anyone else played Mass Effect. Hands down one of the best games I've played (not really an rpg guy, at all) but it combined so many gameplay types so well (including shooting, yes I know) with a superb story.
I know that games like Star Ocean and of course FF have their dedicated fanbase and are good for the most part they're just not my cup of tea. But more games like Mass Effect? Yes, please. It seems like it was the true evolutuon of that genre.
I'll have to go back and play KOTOR which I know is loved but I never played it.
Good for Microsoft though; say what you will about sales figures, shooterbox, blah, blah; they are clearly trying to diversify their library even further and reach new fans.
I am now going to play C&C and the Civ demo - I guess those are shooters since they have guns in them. Tonight some harcore VF5 online then Guitar Hero, you know, more shooters.
Sincerely, you fools think XBox will get anything from this? If it was the Wii, it'd be another story, but the XBox?
XBox is an American console, as apple pie as fraggin' on your LIVE account. It sucks outside the states where RPG are more dominant. Many of Sony's faithful are RPGers. XBox can't say that. Be thankful that FPS players are XBox's faithful.
And I own and play all three. Consoles rule. Fanboys can suck it.
