Vid-splosion of Metal Gear Solid 4 gameplay

I'm noticing that with a lot of gameplay videos, actually. Prior to MGObeta, it had me worried that the gameplay in this was too difficult. However, after MGObeta, it *has* to be the fault of the user. The controls are no more complicated than CoD4 or even the 3-5 different schemes of GTA4(walking, driving, flying, etc.)...

I will mention this though -- and feel free to delete the comment if this is deemed a spoiler, mods! The gameplay video of Snake and the FOXHOUND/Rat Patrol squad fighting the FROGS unit was pretty intense. Even with the player in the video having piss-poor aiming skill and cover tactics. Those PMCs have to be some of the swiftest, toughest enemies ever fought since those RE-licker resembling enemies in RESISTANCE:FoM that jumped wall-to-wall in the same way. I hope Snake has a P90 by that point in the game...

When's the last time this happened? I don't remember any other game getting this kind of a privilege so it would make the joystick team look a little bit like a bunch of hypocrites.

You can buy things with a credit card even if you don't have money. It's uhh..not the smartest thing to do but most of America seems to not care.

watch it, it wasn't that impressive. Not to hate on the game, but those gameplay videos kinda sucked. I'm sure the game as a whole is much better.

Don't put yourself in debt over anything videogame related. Especially when gas prices are destined to do that anyway.

I completely agree about that repetitive 'ah' sound when he gets hit. I've watched these few movies now for only a few minutes total and that sound is seriously starting to annoy me. Couldn't they at least add a bit more variety in that sound... It almost sounds like some cheesy old arcade game.

The other thing that doesn't make much sense to me is when he uses his scope. It appears you can barely see anything at all through that scope. Kinda defeats the whole point of using one. I think you'll see your enemy almost better when not using that scope.

So far these movies have only make me feel slightly disappointed of what to expect...

Doesn't look like the player is trying to do well but trying to show parts off. He really isn't that bad as people are making it sound either.

I hope this game is not as action oriented as the rat video makes it seem. It will ruin the point of the game being a stealth game.

It does look amazing and I'm glad that it does look somewhat more action oriented even though I personally never complained about that.

They just made the game so you can use multiple styles of game play. In the Playstation blog, the one guy mentioned there is a way to beat the game without killing anyone, so there has to be a way to win that fight with stealth or something.

Wait a year. If it doesn't boost PS3 sales, one would expect Konami to port this game to PC and Xbox 360.

Yeah, with only 14 discs

No recent game needs "14 discs" when it's at standard 4.7GB size. (Especially considering the maximum size of a Blu Ray disc is 50GB... 4.7 * 14 = 66)

You're also forgetting that 50GB is only achievable using Dual Layer Blu Ray discs, the standard size of a BR disc is 25GB which is actually more like 5 4.7GB DVD7 discs or 3 8.54GB DVD9 discs. Of course, if you still think PC games are still primarily using CD ROMs, you've got your head so far stuck up your own or Sony's arse to realise DVDs have been in mainstream use for PC games for YEARS now. A high percentage (about 96-98%) can READ DVD9 discs.

DL BR discs also will cost the publisher more at the factory, and since 50GB is a HUGE, amount of space for any developer to take up right about now, optimisation is the best option to get the disc within 25GB.

And also, just to strike a nail in the head of all this fanboy bullshit that's flowing around with MGS4's game data size, I will LAUGH at you when the game comes out at no more than 12GB in size. I don't recall any PS2 games at this period of time into the PS2's lifespan utilising the whole 4.7GB DVD disc space open to developers. Even Capcom's "Devil May Cry", a very visually attractive game only came out at around 2.5GB in size. Even games near the end of the PS2's life span such as Square Enix's "Kingdom Hearts 2" came out at 3.7GB, "Devil May Cry 3" at 3.8GB and MGS3: Snake Eater at 3.8GB. All games not lacking in visuals, content and play time. All these games also have reasonable loading times because they compress game data so it's read off the disc sector faster.

So please, get your facts straight, stop being a useless troll and just enjoy the fact you have the game. (If I wanted to be mean, I could mention that 4.5GB install you'll have to sit through and the fact that exclusivity isn't guaranteed by any means, but I'm not petty, unlike some.)

Most games use dual layer DVDs now anyway, which are 8.5gigs, not 4.7. That makes a 50gig game, about 6 disks. There'd be no disk swapping in game because, well... PC games install as standard.

In fact, back in the CD era, there were a few games released with that number of disks. So it's not impossible.

Yeah, I saw it. It's got that yellow filter and cranked up contrast to cover up a lot of the early, unfinished look of things. It's especially noticeable in the closing title shot, where the 06 trailer has a few columns of smoke and muddy buildings, where the final has lots of smoke, fire, and more pronounced cracks and mottling of the colors on the buildings. They blur the background of the graveyard a lot so you don't notice the lack of flowers. I also notice the final build is much cloudier at that point, so you don't get the lens flare like in the '06. They accentuated what effects they had to hide what they didn't.

While I can be a sucker for fancy visual effects, I like the final more. It's got that hyper-real thing that Metal Gear Solid games have had in the past, so it's crisp instead of shiny or smoky. The subtle color makes things look really bleak, which is good for all this "hired killer, final mission" grumbling they've got Hayter doing. The screens that would appear to be on S[don't kill me fore spoilers] Island have plenty of contrast, so I think the desert is just supposed to be hazy.

They should have at least found a middle ground between the 2 vids. Would have been perfect. Anyway...

This isn't really a spoiler as it's been posted everywhere by now in news articles, but there's several other areas besides the middle east setting. I won't go into specifics in case people do think of it as a spoiler, but with a little searching I'm sure you could find it.

I just realized that. I don't know but that game does not look ground braking to me nor mind blowing... Actually from those gameplay videos I would say that COD4 looks way better and more fun.

I won't even mention the fact that MGS4 has no color at all.

I was about to say that, but didn't want to mention it because I know how EVERYONE LOVES MGS4. But I think those controls sucks really bad.

Oh well. There goes the Holy Grail for the PS3Fanboys.
