Instead of a decent, playable VC game, we get a glorified Tamagachi piece of crap. Thanks, Nintendo. I haven't downloaded a single thing since Bubble Bobble...

Fans of pokemon don't need any more pokemon crap. Hasn't that series distracted enough attention and energy from the classic Nintendo franchises? You know, the games that don't suck?

That's about what i figured, but then again Electroplankton proved the worth of a game with no objective or any apparent point, so i suppose the worth is ultimately up to the user

And also dependent on how awesome your pkmn collection is

A Pokemon fan should be the only one reviewing this title. Not to praise it, but to point out the horrible shortcomings this 'storage' offers compared to the previous 'Box'. No offense meant.

I agree. I would accept the bad graphics if it had as much functionality as the original Pokemon Box.

Yeah that's something that's been missing from every review I've seen of the title, and THE most important feature of the entire 'game'.

So it's Pokemon Box for $10? SWEET!

Also, a little extra info for the PokeHeadz out there...if you can max out your ranch with 1000 pokemon, you will be rewarded with a legit Mew!

You can't even fit 1000 on one file. I believe there's enough to hold 500 pkm in all your boxes

What? You mean one file on the DS game? Well yeah, hence the reason why Pokemon Ranch is even relevant. But you CAN import from more than one cart. So the Real PokeHeadz who are rocking multiple copies of Diamond and Pearl and into all of that breeding and stuff, they could could EASILY max out their Ranch.

Plus, if you only have one cart, and wanna start a new game and retain all your pokemons, you can do that too.

For me, I let once of my buddies hang on to a bunch of my legendaries....this i'll be an easy way to get them back without giving him the Bidoof Nation.

*looks around then chokes his inner PokeNerd back into submission*

....wha?

Sadly, that's not true. They have to go back to the game they were transferred from or they're stuck forever.

But whatever you do, don't turn into this guy:

I should point out that you can get extra pokemon depending on the number of monsters you transfer over. You can even get a rare Mew if you send 999 different Pokes on the Ranch.

Whaddya mean by 999 different Pokemon? There are only 500 species so far....unless you meant like the female ones too? Or all the Unowns or something?

You can send more than one of each monster, like 999 'karps.

No I do mean different monsters, you can't send a Magikarp, take it back and send it again to increase your count. So you'd need 999 different monsters (each one has a different secret ID code) to unlock Mew.

That's a lie! My friend (who knows someone whose brother works at Nintendo) told me the only way you can get Mew is if you push the truck by the S.S. Anne!

I remember all the hours spent trying to decipher that truck. I deliberately lost a battle after beating my rival on the SS Anne so that i would be teleported off the ship without the ship leaving, and so i could return to ponder the truck

Did Game Freak ever even explain the truck?

Oh... But my mii would get a rucksack and plaid shirt..
Plaid shirt...
Plaid shirt... Oh, and a vest! Dear me!
A vest and a plaid shirt... and boots? Are those boots? Oh.. my!

Oh hell can't they just release a DLC expansion pack for the Mii Channel? 'Cause like, that I would actually buy.

This is somewhat relevant to my interests.

So could I say, upload my legendaries up onto this thing from Diamond and start a new game and get them back? or would they be stuck there for three forevers?

It would be nice if this had some GTS integration as well.

Notsayin, justsayin, nomesayin?

Nope. The game stresses that you can *only* withdraw Pokémon from the same game save you deposited them with. So unlike Pokémon Box, you can't transfer your Pokémon from game-to-game.

Which sucks. But it makes for storage...

Yeah, I ended up buying it. What's nice though is the fact that Hayley will trade rares with you just for filling up her ranch, which is going to (slowly, stupid 20 a day cap) become the People's republic of Bidoof in order to get me a Mew :D

So could I delete the savegame on the wiiware and start over to get another Mew?

The number you can upload a day actually levels up. Assuming you upload the maximum each day: 20, 30, 50, 100, 200, all the way up to 999 a day. Once you have 999 pokemon Hayley will trade a Mew for any egg. I totally bought it for that.

There is a cloning trick in Diamond and Pearl, if you really want to multiply certain types

It involves, harkening back to the days of RBY, manipulating the Global Trade Station somehow

Wow! Those graphics are bad, like even worse then the graphics from some of the earliest N64 games. That's pretty shameful.

You do have to take into consideration about how small the download is and the fact that they render all 493 Pokemon. I wish It could be battle revolution-style graphics myself, but that would mean selling it on a disc and using a save file as the storage, which wouldn't be a bad idea either. the Mii integration is great though, I have Myself, Chuck Norris, Bill Clinton, Steve Urkel and William Murderface watching over my pokemon.

Not worth $10, but I'm a sucker for anything Pokémon, so I got it anyways. It would be nice if the graphics were at least as good as the very first Pokemon Stadium/Snap games on N64, and a couple mini-games don't seem like they would be too much to ask for either. Pokémon seems like it's just as popular as it was when it first came out, if not more. I'm sure the company has plenty of money to put into more in-depth development, but I guess they're choosing to just cash in on the success of the games. Hopefully someone will step in and take the series back to its roots, otherwise, I'll have to try and get really good at making video games and apply for a job with Pokémon.

I bought this game mostly for the storage space, but I'm finding that the Wanted Pokemon feature is very helpful in helping me complete my Pokedex. It's like getting missions, and you get Egg Move pokemon sometimes when you trade them in. I also enjoy the background entertainment while I'm beating the Elite 4 for the 100th time to level up my Snorunt. Worth $10 for me definitely.

The games definitely worth getting it's so fun seeing your Pokemon goof around attack each other to me it's infact the best Wii game out there you can also get Pokemon like Mew and Phione from the game it's also a very good storage system for someone like myself whos boxes get full all the time.

Ahh, once again I find myself loving something that everyone else thinks sucks. Everyone's evaluating it in terms of an actual game, but it really isn't. True, this is a sit-n-stare, low-interaction, glorified virtual fish bowl with Pokemon. If we break it down even further, it's more a utility than a game. And for a utility, I think it excels.

Granted, this doesn't mean there's nothing I'd change about it. I would like a little more to do in it, and I think it would be neat to see the Pokemon to scale, rather than all of them be tiny. But I don't mind the Mii-style all that much, and it makes it so that it won't take up much space.

People complaining about the low graphics quality really should get their head out of their asses and realize that if they went for detailed graphics, the game would take up too much space to be practical, or would need to be a proper disc-stored game.

In the end, though, I'll say what many say: If you really love Pokemon, you'll probably get more than your ten bucks worth. If not, of course you're not going to like it. Go play something else. ^_^

I'm a self-proclaimed Pokemon addict, and so of course I bought the game. I agree with a lot of what's been said in both the interview and in the comments, and I'd even go so far as to say that a 6/10 score is being extremely generous; I wouldn't have given it more than 4. However, that doesn't mean I'm not enthralled by this game. Far from it! I've actually logged more time on MPR than Lost Winds, even though LW is superior to MPR in every conceivable way.

The Pokemon series isn't known for being especially flashy or mature. At its roots, it's about collecting creatures, befriending them, and enjoying their company. And in that respect, MPR is a complete success. I know that's a childish way of looking at this "game," and so I believe that that's why a lot of online reviews have been slamming it for its extremely limited functionality.

If you've never played Pokemon, this isn't for you. If you only play Pokemon for the (surprisingly complex) battle system, this also isn't for you. But if you're one of those lifelong fans who grew up watching the anime, collecting plushes, and putting together teams of your favorites instead of OU hard-hitters, this game is for you. It's adorable, and it's fun in its own laid-back way. If nothing else, it's a cheap conglomeration of Pokemon Box and Snap. Is it the best it could be? No. But is it an abomination to Pokemon fans everywhere? Nah.
