Born for Wii: new column reimagines franchises on the Wii
Always willing to entertain the question "what if," our friends at Nintendo Wii Fanboy have introduced a new column, Born for Wii. In the first edition, Panzer Dragoon Orta is re-envisioned as a Wii title. Control scheme diagrams are included, as well as a proof of concept with the PC version Panzer Dragoon played on the Wii remote. Go on, let your imagination run wild.

You know what was born for the Wii?
&rew @ Jun 11th 2008 1:15AM
Seriously, I don't know.
&rew @ Jun 11th 2008 1:24AM
Oh! I know: Halo DS!
Wait...
Scott @ Jun 11th 2008 2:19AM
wut?
DVersion @ Jun 11th 2008 1:18AM
The graphics for PD: Orta were so great for the time. I'd hate to see it brutalized on the Wii. and boy, would my arm get sore after awhile, that game's intense.
Besides, doesn't Nintendo have a rail-shooter franchise? remember Star-fox? he's not just a cheap-ass smash bros character. Get too it Nintendo!
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Jun 11th 2008 1:22AM
....?
Lol what? I don't think the Wii would have any problems running Orta.
&rew @ Jun 11th 2008 1:31AM
Does anyone else think that dragon looks a lot like a covenent elite.
america head charge @ Jun 11th 2008 8:22AM
Or the Covenant Elite looks a lot like the dragon.
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Jun 11th 2008 10:06AM
OR....the covenant elite and the dragon look alot like wrex from mass effect. OOORRR......

As much as I have disinterest in the Wii, would rather have the games for PS3/360, how about resurrecting some Dreamcast franchises like Power Stone? Nobody liked Power Stone? : (
Scott @ Jun 11th 2008 2:20AM
I loved powerstone. It was another kick-ass Smash Brothers type game
=)
Many hours were spent in powerstone 2
Tiptup300 @ Jun 11th 2008 2:24AM
The last boss was such a cheapass.
BPM [MKWii: 2578 3585 8392] @ Jun 11th 2008 3:47AM
PSP has that Power Stone Collection.
Though, what I heard from someone who got it, the loading times on it really kills it.
(wonder if it's better on PSP-2k?)

Powerstone was what sealed the deal on me getting a dreamcast. At the time when i first saw it the best games graphically i had seen wereon the N64. Powerstone looked so smooth tasty that i just wanted to make love to the screen.

The problem with ports is that I wouldn't buy it again just for added waggle-o-matic controls. If it was a spinoff or something, sure!
shouryuuken @ Jun 11th 2008 2:55AM
ive been thinkin about this for awhile.
-panzer dragoon
-virtua cop (trilogy would be nice, and maybe a fourth. but since we didnt get a port of the third..)
-punch out
-starfox
-lost world arcade by sega
-waverace (or even waverunner by sega)
-pilotwings
-space/planet harrier(s)
-jet set/grind radio
-virtua on (using 2 wiimotes as control sticks that mount on an official arcade stick type peripheral)
and a few games using the balance board..
-1080 snowboarding
-top skater by sega
-air trix
-motor raid (i think sitting in a chair with your feet planted on the balance board would make for some nice motorcycle games.)
basically.. i want the wii to be the next dreamcast... itd be a nice system for old arcade ports that we never got to have on a home system. itd also be ideal for 2d fighting games, beat em ups, or shmups if devs wanted to make them. only way i see on rail/light gun shooters, shmups, 2d games, and arcade style racers and such survive without a sega console is through the wii.

"-virtua on (using 2 wiimotes as control sticks that mount on an official arcade stick type peripheral)"
That would be painful on cost, especially as vs. mode was what kept my interest up in those games. I think you could have a well-implemented control scheme with the wii-mote and nunchuck, and it's a game i would long for.
shouryuuken @ Jun 11th 2008 9:42PM
yeah true, but u know they release ridiculously priced peripherals all the time for games that wont have a huge following (steel batallion). im just sayin though, i know plenty of ppl with wiis that have at least 2 remotes, all im askin is for a base for you to plug your remotes into that has the triggers facing away from you, i think that would emulate the twin stick pretty well. put a big button in the middle and there you go. im sure they could get by with bundling that with the game for only 70 or 80 bucks, and that would be similar to a "collectors edition" of any other game. but yeah i know it could get expensive, so having an alternative like a wiimote/nunchuck control scheme would be needed.
DarkMan08 @ Jun 11th 2008 8:06AM
Overly complex controls for a overly simplistic game. To tell the truth, those controls make the game less fun to play. All you have to do, with the Wii controls, is Point a Shoot; Unlike the joystick controls of dodge and shoot(fight and aiming is done by the same analog stick). Motion controls aren't needed for a rail shooter like Panzer Dragoon, due to it simple control scheme.
samfish @ Jun 11th 2008 9:07AM
Really? Can I buy your copy of Panzer Dragoon Wii off of you, since you think it's boring, then?
waynski1457 @ Jun 11th 2008 8:48AM
Man, this was one of the first games I thought of when I heard of the Wii controls. And I REALLY wish it would happen...
samfish @ Jun 11th 2008 9:10AM
WHERE'S MY GOD HAND WII, CAPCOM?!
samfish @ Jun 11th 2008 9:11AM
