No Ken or Ryu in the Street Fighter movie

Though they're probably not your favorite characters in the Street Fighterverse (that's Zangief, obviously) you probably can't imagine it without the Shake 'n' Bake of urban fisticuffs, Ken and Ryu. So it'll probably come as something of a surprise that Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li producer Patrick Aiello says that the duo won't appear in the movie.

Official movie blogger Aaron Horwitz attempts do a little damage control, reminding that "Nightcrawler, Pyro and Beast" didn't show up in the first X-Men movie. It's an appropriate comparison as Nightcrawler, Pyro and Beast were the original team of X-Men. Just the three of them ... bamf-ing around, starting fires and being smart. Those we are the X-Men they had back in the 60s and they liked it.

To be fair, they would steal the show from Chun Li.

The fight after the shower scene was more amusing. Or the staircase which takes Guile longer to go up than the car ride over there, heh.

They better have a shower scene with Chun li I mean is the only thing that could possibly save the movie.

In fact what they don't turn it into a porno already I mean there is no way this could possibly be good and I'm sure they will get more audience that way.

Yea, but Wolverine was in the first X-men movie, and he's one of the first X-men everyone thinks of at the mention of the franchise.

SF w/o Ryu and Ken just doesn't make much sense to me...

Sorry but thats a deal breaker for me. Don't care how hot Kristin Kreuk is I want to see all my favorite Street Fighters and if they're not in there its not a real movie to me.

Only, Pyro WAS in the first X-men movie...

But Pyro and Nightcralwer weren't in the original X-men team... The members were Cyclops, Beast, Angel, Iceman and and Marvel Girl....

How did this guy get the idea that Pyro was an original X-Man? Much less that it was JUST the three of them? Weird. It's not hard to find the original comics on the internet and confirm your info.

I think that's called sarcasm. At least, I hope it's sarcasm. Otherwise he's a fucking moron. And Ryu IS Street Fighter. I hate the shit, but that can't be denied.

Seriously, people? Was there like a massive crash in sarcasm detectors today? The ellipsis alone should've been enough of a tip-off, and then of course there was everything that followed it.

Beast definitely was one of the original x-men, he just wasn't blue and/or furry in the beginning.

And, no, Brian, Pyro was not in the first movie...unless you count a little 3 second clip of somebody who may or may not be Pyro melting an ice flower.

actually pyro was in the first movie. he was in the class scene where he creates a fire ball behind his back which iceman turns it into an ice ball

You can't have a Street Fighter Movie without the No-personality having flagship character, and his cool, pyromaniac of a sparring partner. I thought the original live action flick failed on all accounts, why the bloody make another one?

Pyro and Beast were in fact in the film,albeit in a miniscule appearance.

Beast even had a few lines in the first flick.

That's very disappointing. What is the story about? Kristen Kruek is already a horrid, horrid actress. And I have to deal with an "edgey" Taboo as Vega. This is going to suck really bad. I'll wait out the 3 weeks it'll be in theaters and maybe catch it once it hits the $5 dvd bin at Target and I convince someone else to buy it.

Why would they need to be shown in this movie? Kristin is all I need.

Most every S.Fighter fan is going to botcott this movie if theres no Ryu and Ken Im a diehard S.F Fan and If they are not in it I wont even buy the bootleg lol and thats 4 dollars let alone go to the movies. But if they are in it I will go to the movies to see it

You don't need an all-star cast to make a movie good. You had an all-star cast with the first movie and look how bad that was.

I honestly don't care. I had no intention of seeing the movie unless it turned out to be really good (and hell freezes over).

In my opinion, Street Fighter is nearly impossible to translate to the big screen without reworking the franchise's characters and storyline. Ken and Ryu are fun to play as, but aren't compelling characters. Their relationship is too shallow. Pretty much every video game franchise has the same issue.

The guy is obviously mixing up his X-men Comics with the X-men Arcade Game.

The Japanese didn't seem to think that way Antonio. The tv show was mildly interesting

Well I said it's impossible to translate to the big screen, a TV show is considered "small screen". And "mildly interesting" (which is a generous description of the series IMO) is hardly the type of description I'd want for a major motion picture.

I call smoke screen on this one, at the very least there will be a cameo ala SLJ in Iron Man...

Seriously. SF without Ken and Ryu makes doesn't really make sense. They ARE SF. Ignoring them is really stupid.

You knew the movie was called "The Legend of Chun Li" How is it a shocking revelation characters not named Chun Li are not in it?

because it's also a movie named "Street Fighter."
