Rumor: MTV ad 'leaks' new Rock Band tracks

Has MTV let the tracks out of the bag? An eagle-eyed poster at the Bemanistyle forums captured some stills from a commercial airing on the network promoting today's newly released MTV2 track pack. What's interesting: whoever made the video used in the ad seems to have forgotten to omit bits that show four new, as-of-yet-unreleased tracks for Rock Band.
We haven't seen the ads ourselves, but the grabs look legit. If they are, here's what Rock Band groupies have to look forward to at some point in the (probably) not-to-distant-future:
• "Aesthetics of Hate" by Machine Head
• "Afterlife" by Avenged Sevenfold
• "Breed" by Nirvana
• "Burn" by Nine Inch Nails
[Thanks, Jon D!]

Burn?!?!?!?
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
matahtak @ Jun 11th 2008 4:36PM
Avenged Sevenfold?! Yes!
Ben @ Jun 11th 2008 8:06PM
Afterlife, is that from their newest album? Eww... I swear, they've went downhill ever since Shadows had that throat operation. They need some more of their old metalcore songs, like Chapter Four or Unholy Confessions.
FemaleOrca @ Jun 11th 2008 4:39PM
Breed? Yes!
Richard 2.4 @ Jun 11th 2008 10:29PM
I agree. Breed's always been one of my favorite Nirvana songs.
Prof. Hinsley @ Jun 11th 2008 4:41PM
That other song Yesssss!!!!
OMGOMG @ Jun 11th 2008 4:42PM
Breed. OMFGOMFG!!!
Such a great song from a great album.
I know, I know, it's cool to hate on Nirvana, but they were easily one of my top 10 favorite bands of the 90s, with Nevermind being one of the best albums of the decade, as well.
*Prepares to hear how Nirvana is [insert synonym for bad] and how they ruined [insert music genre here]*
deaftly @ Jun 11th 2008 4:50PM
Fuck that, Nirvana saved music for a little while then it eventually went back to shit
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jun 11th 2008 4:50PM
Nirvana is atrocious and how they ruined pop.
Sora267 @ Jun 11th 2008 5:19PM
God, Harmonix, give us some Linkin Park! Use the old stuff too. Well, you can use Given Up too, as I want to hear someone do that long, long scream near the end of the song on vocals.
Sora267 @ Jun 11th 2008 5:26PM
That...wasn't supposed to be a reply. O.o
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ Jun 11th 2008 5:29PM
In Utero is way better than Nevermind. And that's a fact!
OMGOMG @ Jun 11th 2008 7:38PM
Cesaira, I agree. While it wasn't the sales success as Nevermind was, I think In Utero was a better album as a whole. Nevermind at times feels just like a bunch of songs put together. Yes, I know that's what an album is. But In Utero had a much better flow to it.
StevenRafael @ Jun 11th 2008 4:41PM
Burn???? So far, I don't like any of the NIN song selections for Rock Band.
Better choices in my opinion would be Physical, Hurt, Closer, Vessel, With Teeth, and Right Where It Belongs.
beatboxtaun @ Jun 11th 2008 5:10PM
That's what I'm saying! They'll get a good artist or band and not pick the great songs. I can't think of Burn right now. I'll have to look it up.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ Jun 11th 2008 5:44PM
Burn is more of a B Side kind of thing. Great song.
But I will state this again. When Harmonix choses songs for Rock Band, they have a hard choice. Do they target only the band fans that would be familiar with the song (Physical) or do they target the casual radio listening audience who know of Nine Inch Nails and has heard of their music, but they're not exactly hardcore (Perfect Drug).
The advantage of specializing is you get to make the hardcore fans happy that they get to belt out Wish. The disadvantage is a small percentage of your userbase even knows what the fuck Wish is. On band specific packs, if I'm not a big fan of the band but their singles (read: Oasis), then it's a good thing not to have specialized.
Besides, NIN has a numbered pack, I'm sure another NIN pack is in the future and considering March of the Pigs made it in the last, maybe an obscure track will find it's way in again.
Richard 2.4 @ Jun 11th 2008 10:43PM
And not to mention they have to choose songs that are actually engaging for vocals, guitar, bass, and drums, which is why most those songs would make awful choices for Rock Band. It's not so simple as "I really like this song, so it should be in the game."
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jun 11th 2008 4:43PM
Other band? YEEEESSSS
deaftly @ Jun 11th 2008 4:48PM
Machine Head? AWESOME!
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jun 11th 2008 4:57PM
Had the song been "Imperium", it would have been a purchase, no questions asked.
KrazyIan @ Jun 11th 2008 6:08PM
Aesthetics of Hate is an awesome choice. Imperium, Ten Ton Hammer, and Davidian are must-includes as well.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jun 11th 2008 4:52PM
Whoever made this ad should be fired. I could understand accidentally showing the other bands, but the song that says "NOT READY TO TEST"?
mundox @ Jun 11th 2008 4:53PM
I wish they would add some metal to the game...
jsn @ Jun 11th 2008 4:56PM
you mean like all that metal that's already in the game? Maybe you mean your slim definition of metal?
Jomolungma @ Jun 11th 2008 5:05PM
Do you mean precious metal, like gold? Because that's about the only metal not in RB right now.
mundox @ Jun 11th 2008 5:28PM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_in_Rock_Band
I only see 3 or 4 metal bands that have more than 1 song. So yeah, MORE metal.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ Jun 11th 2008 5:45PM
That's hardly conclusive of evidence has a vast majority of the bands on Rock Band still only have 1 song...
TehAdz @ Jun 11th 2008 8:01PM
Wait.. So just because there are already a few songs of a particular sub-genre, you raise hell at the proposal of adding some more?
...Needs moar metal.
GibGirl @ Jun 11th 2008 8:50PM
I wish they would add some goth music. Yes, seriously. It's the only of the four styles/attitudes that has no music whatsoever present. So until they have SOMETHING goth, I'm not going to take seriously requests from people to add MORE of something else that's already present.
beatboxtaun @ Jun 11th 2008 5:08PM
Come on! Everytime, just so-so songs. Gimme some Fugazi (old school Fugazi), gimme some RUN DMC and Aerosmith's, "Walk This Way". Some Pink Floyd, so I can play David Gilmore's leads. I know they have to buy the rights and stuff, but there has to be some better stuff out there.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ Jun 11th 2008 5:47PM
I guess I'm the only one asking for this but I'd love to see some Marilyn Manson, Gravity Kills, Stabbing Westward, Refreshments, or even... dare I go there... Sugar Ray?
TehAdz @ Jun 11th 2008 8:01PM
I wouldn't say no to Marilyn Manson.
mistian @ Jun 11th 2008 11:37PM
Sugar Ray?? -1
Mike T @ Jun 12th 2008 10:58AM
Nope, +1 to Sir Fid. I thought Sugar Ray sounded stupid until I thought about it and realized that there are more than a few of their songs that would be engaging for all four parts.
But what do I know? I'm still holding out hope for Journey ("Don't Stop Believin'" FTW!)
spartan110 @ Jul 15th 2008 12:56AM
MORE NINE INCH NAILS!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO KEEP IT COMIN!!!!!!!!
Jonathan King @ Jun 11th 2008 6:23PM
I agree that their is a serious lack of metal in Rock Band. Too many bands that are not rock are thrown into that category.Glad to see Machine Head getting some love...One of the most underrated bands ever...The solos will be killer drums/guitar both
Rocko @ Jun 11th 2008 7:19PM
i'd like to see Harmonix go after the psuedo-indie crowd. You know, bands that are independent, but every hipster likes because pitchfork gives them good reviews. Like modest mouse, flaming lips, or even CYHSY
Akukami @ Jun 11th 2008 7:23PM
Hurray!@ Another Avenged Sevenfold song (Loved Beast & The Harlot from GH2) and another Tool song to make me want to strangle my drum pads.
Akukami @ Jun 11th 2008 7:37PM
^ Ignore me saying Tool, meant NIN, blah...
JohnHeist @ Jun 11th 2008 7:53PM
Dethklok pack please.
Skunk Ape @ Jun 11th 2008 9:46PM
yes please
dmbrandon @ Jun 11th 2008 8:07PM
Good music would work, too!
POOLSCLOSED @ Jun 11th 2008 8:19PM
I felt excited for a bit until I realized that Buddy Holly wasn't the artist :(
Shagittarius @ Jun 12th 2008 11:14AM
I felt excited at first too then I realized Deep Purple wasn't the artist (Burn).
KEFIOX @ Jun 11th 2008 9:17PM
Can't wait to see the vocal chart for Aestetics of Hate. Also can't wait for Breed. Could've had a better A7X song though. NIN song is badass, like all others.
Definitely picking up all of them when they come out.
bluezy @ Jun 11th 2008 9:30PM
Ooo, Afterlife. One of the few songs i'll dare to sing.
Skunk Ape @ Jun 11th 2008 9:46PM
HOT SH!T. Aesthetics of Hate is a sick song.

There's the link to the full commercial. You can pause when the songlist comes up and see the songs in question no problem.
Andy G @ Jun 12th 2008 1:47PM
Burn is a great song from the "Natural Born Killers" soundtrack. It's not exactly a prototypical Rockband song, but it really has badass drums and vocals. "Breed" should be cool, but a lot of the rookies will struggle with the drum rolls. Afterlife is a cool song, but I'm sure the guitar solo will probably be near impossible. Machinehead rocks, but they are going to have to find a way to do double bass better. Playing those Metallica songs are a lot harder without double bass pedals. I am glad they have actually started to add some better songs, though. Come on, Jimmy Buffet? How old are the people playing Rock Band? Definitely not 50. Boston is ok, but they are cheesy. Judas Priest is cool, but way under the radar for a lot of people.
Kyera @ Jun 12th 2008 2:16PM
The Jimmy Buffett songs are actually pretty fun to play. I'm not exactly a fan of his music, but I enjoy these songs much more in Rock Band than I ever did outside of it.
