We have 360 Unreal Tournament III screenshots
Actually ... we only have seven.
But they are new shots from the upcoming Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III! We thought you might like to take a look at 'em before the game's summer release. In case you've forgotten, the Xbox 360 version of Epic's frantic fragfest features five "exclusive" maps, split-screen capabilities and two new characters.

These look like bullshots.

I've never been a UT fanatic, however can anyone who purchased this for the PS3 give their opinion on the console version of this game? Is it worth a buy?
Doom3killer @ Jun 11th 2008 7:20PM
from the PC version, I can tell u that it hasn't really changed much. If u played UT 2004, it's a lot like that. The story mode sucks though. It tries to put a story into deathmatch arenas.
Justin @ Jun 11th 2008 7:20PM
The single-player campaign isn't worth touching.
It's essentially multiplayer...with bots. There's not much of a story even though there's some wonky narrative throughout.
Online multi-player was fun, but (and let me say this was my observation as of the COD4 release), not that many PS3 owners get online and play. Only when cool mods are released do you see a spike in activity.
I'm pretty sure it'll be a blast on 360 if people aren't still tied to COD4 and GTA4 online.
I figure it's worth a buy because the best PC / PS3 mods were said to be making their way to XBL thru some sort of DLC.

I'm not an FPS buff by any means, but I own the game for PS3 and I enjoy it a lot. The frantic pacing makes for a really unique experience when compared to all the homogeneous FPSs out there, and the graphics and maps are top notch. Players have made some really cool mods as well, like the Lego map.
My only gripes are that at any given time, you're unable to connect to half the servers that show up if you're in the US. I don't think they've come out with a patch yet for this either. Also, the lack of split-screen is disappointing. But you have to assume that Xbox Live's solid online infrastructure will alleviate some of these concerns. If I owned a 360 I'd look into it; the game's just fun.

As somebody who loved UT2004 and spent hundreds of hours on it, I hated UT3. It removed many of the great features UT2004 had such as Assault, and the gameplay was, in my opinion, not as fun. The graphics were an eyesore as well. I don't think I'd be able to stand the console versions as I had to remove all the bloom in the PC version in order to get the game to a level where it wasn't unbearably ugly.
Knight Marquise @ Jun 11th 2008 7:28PM
Doom, Justin & zhine..
Thanks alot for the input guys. I'll give it a buy then, it sounds like there's potential, especially if they do shoot over some of the "best of" mods from the pc and PS3.
BananaBoat @ Jun 11th 2008 8:12PM
Yeah, coming from UT2003 and UT2004, UT3 is a major disappointment. Shiny graphics at the expense of gameplay...oh joy. There being noone to play with on the PS3 doesn't help matters much either, but by that time I didn't even really want to play anymore (tried PC demo first, then rented PS3 game. Almost noone to play with on either at the time).

I also wanna thank you guys for the input. Guess I'll also just be sticking with UT2k4. :)

The 360 will boast a feature that the other 2 versions don't have, which is split screen. But aside from that I'd say PC or PS3 are by far the better choice IMO, and if you've got a good enough PC for it (and aren't opposed to PC), then PC is the best choice hands down.
Player-made mods --mutators/maps/models-- are what UT is all about. PS3 can use the mods but can't create them. For those that prefer keyboard and mouse but don't have a good enough PC, the PS3 version supports that (yay! why don't all games do this?). Oh and for those whiny controller-loving wussies that scream "unbalanced!" that feature can be enabled/disabled on a server-by-server basis.
Lars @ Jun 11th 2008 9:24PM
Oh, and as far as gameplay is concerned... when I first played UT3 I thought it was OK, but not great. The vehicles seemed stupid and worthless and I didn't "get" warfare mode. But for some reason I kept coming back to it anyways. Now I believe it's actually one of the best shooters out there. I think it just takes some exposure to kinda make everything click. I went from hating the vehicles to loving them once I got to know all their strengths, weaknesses, and special abilities.
The game performs really really well too. I often run a mutator to speed it up a bit, because I like it slightly faster than stock. Oh and there's been a lot of conversions of old UT levels which are so friggin awesome.
The only thing that sucks is there isn't a huge amount of people on it. There's always games going, at least a few of each type, and never trouble finding random people to play with, but it's a bit harder to get a full group of people into custom map servers.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 11th 2008 10:28PM
In that way I guess I won't buy it.I like FPS but my connection is always lagging so buying a game that is mostly online at this time would be a bad idea.
Maybe later when I get a better service :(
Chase @ Jun 11th 2008 7:24PM
I haven't played Unreal since Unreal Tournament, and, while fun, this was before I played a good amount of better shooters. If it plays anything like Quake Wars, I'm going to have to pass.
Jeff @ Jun 11th 2008 7:29PM
Opposite of Quake Wars, imho.
Chase @ Jun 11th 2008 7:43PM
Oh man, I hope so. I love Call of Duty 4, and the Lost Planet multiplayer is pretty good, but I need another quality shooter to play.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 11th 2008 10:22PM
Have you played Team Fortress 2? Just Epic.
Chase @ Jun 11th 2008 11:13PM
Oh, I do indeed have Orange Box, and played Team Fortress, but it's hard to find matches these days. =/

LUDWIG FUCKING WINS AGAIN
Christopher Grant @ Jun 11th 2008 7:30PM
Considering he's won so many times, can't we just consider him in a permanent state of "winningness" and we can point out when he has, in fact, not won?
Sora267 @ Jun 11th 2008 8:04PM
But wouldn't Ludwig rather be alerted of his successes than his losses?
Neebs @ Jun 11th 2008 8:19PM
When Ludwig doesn't win? I don't understand. La li lu le lo?
Tim The Enchanter @ Jun 12th 2008 9:38AM
Well, he didn't win 352 UT III images...
Tim The Enchanter @ Jun 12th 2008 9:39AM
Ooops. That's 353. Math has declared war on my brain. It's on, math.
Jeff @ Jun 11th 2008 7:27PM
I still think that this has the best shooter gameplay ever crafted. With Xbox-live, this will be a dream.
Tim The Enchanter @ Jun 12th 2008 9:41AM
I like my CoD4/BF2 style, but I love to break it up with UT3 and TF2 style games. The ultimate mélange.
kataztrophy @ Jun 11th 2008 8:16PM
Adding this to me "buy it, buy it, buy it" list for when I get a 360.
